    • I appear to have developed the same issue Men_in_jean had a few months back.

A faulty fuel gauge resulted in the bike shutting down on me - dry tank. Thankfully it was in mid-city and i had remembered the incident that had happened for men_in_jean. Quickly fueled up for a liter on the nearby fuel station and managed to tank up.

Second service is due in about 200kms, will need to get the fuel gauge replaced.

For the new owners of GT, watch out for this issue - this is becoming one of the more frequent known issues of GT650R.

I am being told that weak ignition coil, Faulty fuel pumps are also something that plagues the 650, just an FYI to others for now...

            • my story

the wait is starting to kill me (delivery of my GT650R, 2 weeks)..so Im doing this to kinda blow off some steam..

the situation @ work isnt helping at all (ive been with Ernst & Young for 6 months)

im going to tell you guys hows I got into bikes..(warning - FREAKIN' LONG)

'it all started not too long ago in 2008, i had just completed my 12th
my dad's in the merchant navy n hence travels alot
he wanted to make sure I had my driver's license before he left
so we're in an auto, heading to Sheikh Sarai..
we cross MGF Metropolitan in Saket n I see the Yamaha showroom for the 1st time, we decided to have a look on the way back

we enter, n I go straight to the R1, while a salesperson starts talking to my dad about the newly launched R15
I look at it n go, 'it looks like a mini-bike, maybe something for youngsters'
it didn't really catch my attention, but it surely caught my dad's
next thing I know, is my dad is seriously considering getting me the bike, while it takes me some time to understand that I was talking about people like me when I said 'youngsters'

waiting period - 1 week THE LONGEST WEEK OF MY LIFE

I barely drove a 2-wheeler before, but I was very vaguely confident in my ability to handle the R15, turns out, my dad has to ride it back from the showroom
I don't take it too well, but Im determined to learn
well, it took me all of a day n a half to learn how to switch gears

had my 1st stupid/silly accident while trying to zip a signal as soon as it turned green..had 2-3 slips n slides here n there..but there was 1 major accident in feb 09
I was getting late for my college festival, hit a series of bumps too fast on the Jawaharlal Nehru flyover..lost control..the bike threw me off..n landed a good 15-20 feet sliding across the road..
I was @ home for an entire month, and lesson learnt indeed - better late than sorry

I've been to two races, both organised by Yamaha, 1 in Chennai (MMSC racetrack) and another in Greater Noida (India Expo Mart)
did surprisingly well in both, experience of a lifetime

the first time I saw the GT was 4-5 months ago in the Gurgaon showroom,
yet again, I didn't think much of it, thought it was a little behind on looks, seemed kinda unfinished, but was very keen on what a 600cc bike looks like

its been more than 3 yrs on my R15, n I decided a while back that, come what may, I'm gonna buy myself a 1000cc bike
really started to seriously consider my options..
assuming that the ideal way to move up will be a 250
honestly, the ninja isnt to my liking at all, was really looking forward to the cbr as well, but its been another let down

also, i felt it made more sense to go in for a more powerful since my plan is to keep it running until I can afford a litre class bike myself (which is going to take a lotta time )

so my supersport options were the R6, cbr600rr, gsx600, daytona 675
(my mom was keen on getting 1 from the States, since she works overseas)
but I didnt want to get into the hassle of import n then the whole service n parts
I mean I really take care of my baby, I even took out the wheels myself, painted 'em white n put it back together
I love washing the bike and when you get that brand new look
so I wanted the whole deal, service being the most important

              Come november, n I narrow down on 2 - ninja 650 n GT650R
the ninja was overbooked, not even a testdrive possible
the guys @ delhi superbikes in lajpat nagar were more than happy to give me a ride..
n Im blown away by the size of the GT, sit on it n that pick up is just scarily fast n fun
end nov, n I've booked the bike..was torn for the colour choices, spinning between white, red and red+black
finally narrowed down on the red (saving 15-20k)
made a list of all the gear I have to get..
already got 3 pairs of brand new gloves..(2 of them, Alpinestars )
going to get a new helmet, maybe a jacket as well and sum new boots
as for the bike, apart from a cover, I'm thinking of getting the headlight changed, as well as the indicators
gonna get frame sliders for sure..also wanna get a security setup
n yeah..1st thing coming off the bike is that godforsaken ugly dam saree guard n the front no. plate as well..sticker on the windshield suits me better

IT'S GOING TO BE QUITE AN ADVENTURE - HYOSUNG GT650R

may not be my 1st choice, but its still a helluva bike

              • 214 KM/HR on the GT650R

                Hi guys,

My first attempt to tame the GT. This was just a spur of the moment thing so the video is not very well done.

                HYOSUNG GT650R TOP SPEED 214 KM/HR - YouTube

The bike could have gone much more but I had to slow down since we had not checked the rest of the road for safety. 214km/hr is good enough for now I guess!

Better videos will be up soon. Hope you guys enjoy this.

Done at an extremely safe place with all safety gear.

                Cheers!

Is this on the electronic city flyover? IMHO - One of the safest areas to unleash hell..

                    Brat,

Cannot disclose where this was done here in the open forum. Cops are always screening XBHP, Team BHP and Facebook to know where sportsbike owners are revving it out.

                    But you know Bangalore.

                    Sent you a PM.

                    XBHPians:

Just to let you guys know, whenever I have a speedrun, I always make sure I have friends/brother go ahead and check the entire length of the road for parked/broken down vehicles or passing vehicles and when they give the go ahead on my cell, I go for it. I brake immediately when I pass them.

If the Bangalore guys want to meet up to have some fun on all the GTs and check timings and stuff, let me know and lets plan something.

                    Until next time,

                    Cheers!
