Is this advisable to use the EKS to stop the engine on regular basis or one should use the ignition switch to switch off. e.g. on a red light, traffic jams etc.

My understanding is that as there is a lot of electronics involved in the modern bikes, using ignition will shut down the circuits properly, where as the EKS that is supposed to be used in Emergency (as per manual) may not do so and abruptly kill the circuit and may harm in long run ?

What do you guys say ? anyone having good knowledge around the electronics involved in motorcycles ? I am novice..

    Cheers
There is a thread on using the engine kill switch.
Let me explain in simple words. When you switch off the engine at a signal or short hault, it is better to use the engine kill switch as it just deactivates the connection to the battery and does not shut down all electricals. However, using it for prolonged durations may result in battery drainage.
Conversely, shutting down the ignition will shut down power supply to the entire bike including fan, radiator etc. So next time when you turn it on, the self check etc. will go through. This is not required for short haults.
This is why the engine kill switch-it is NOT an emergency switch as some have claimed due to it being in red!
Use it for short haults&when you are leaving the bike, switch off the ignition.

Well not all have comprehensive insurances so my statement was in context to that , more than prices of spare parts am worried about availability, the dealers dont stock fairing of all colors and even a small fall would take atleast a month or more to repair so isnt it better to just have a small black rod take at least some part of the impact and will also save you some bucks and being one month away from your beloved GT , am getting emotional now. lol.

As Sarvajit mentioned, just dont bother and keep using it, it is not practical to switch the ignition on and off everytime you stop at a red light, use the Engine kill switch instead, if the stop is extremely long, you can switch the headlights off for that much time to stop the drain on your battery.

I ride with lights on all the time, day or night and if the stop is long, just flick the headlight switch to off.

I also ride mostly with the lights on all the time, however, people on the road irritate me when they make those hand expressions telling me that my head light is on ..

What about having some LED based Daytime Running Light ? I inquired on ebay from a seller selling the LEDs, he has come back with following

"One of our customers with a 650R used this product inside the faux air scoops to use as DRLs:
LED Daytime Running lights! UltraBright flexible 24-CM White LED Strip! | eBay
        "
He did not have any pics of the same, so not sure how it may look. Someone having a good hand with photoshop ?

I have booked the bike here in Pune as the movement plan is not certain, but in case I move, and the hyderabad dealership is not present, it will be a lotta trouble

Till I get the delivery, drooling over the pics that I clicked on the showroom. Not great pics due to glare from the showroom lighting.. next time, when I visit, I will carry the CPL filter to cut the glare..

I have chosen the black colour. I was initially torn between White and Black.. White looked awesome, and had a lot of presence.. Due to the colour the bike looks even bigger and captures a lot of attention from the onlookers.. However this was THE problem and the overall it was little too loud and attractive for my taste and age (I am 34).. I wanted some discrete colour which does not generate a lot of attention from people :-) .. And for me Bike has always meant BLACK....therefore while choosing colour, I let my head rule over heart....and booked a black beauty..

The only thing, that I am not liking about black colour is the transparent Visor. Somehow it is looking out of place on the Black bike.. on all other colours it was looking fine, but Black.. I want a black visor.. Can I get a sunfilm on the visor to make it black or the only option is to get a black visor.. These are not available in India, but may source from US some time if some friend is visiting.. But that would be too cumbersome.. any other alternatives to get the visor changed to Black ?

Posting the pics here .. waiting suggestions on the visor stuff .

              cheers

the pictures are awesome.... now once agn i am deviating from what i had decided ... thanks to u sir ..... getting the clearer picture of what i really want ... thanks sir .....

                    • My first post. Which might bring Smile on few faces.

Hi all i am Vibhor from Gurgaon. I own GT 650r Black.

Been very active on this thread throughout, i love this machine its fabulous to ride on. As seen riders have few niches about the noise and hard gears n handling. well i have been riding bullets for past 13 years n now i can say this one makes less trouble than them .

Ok wanted to share some news which is Radiant Lifestyles Gurgaon showroom n SVC has been closed. No operations at all. Unfortunately i bought my bike from them 1.5 week ago & fortunate enough to get my first service done from Delhi Super bikes lajpat nagar i guess they have better repo than gurgaon guys.

                        • Having a small issue or niggle with my bike related to the rear brake light. Its supposed to function in a sense that its dim/light when headlights are on and when you brake it becomes dark so that other vehicle owners know you are braking.

Now mine is stuck at the dark level, tried everything but couldnt get it to work, call it my ignorance but it could be as it is from day 1, i never noticed it or something has gone wrong now

Will give a call to the dealer, the Gurgaon svc and showroom has been closed down and New delhi dealer's workshop is not yet open so like NCR Ducati owners am also hanging in between , would call the delhi superbikes people and get some help as they are very corteous.

Their mechanic had gone for training to pune and i hope he is back as travelling like this is very unsafe when the people behind dont know am braking. Once the mechanic is back, he will do something.

Congratulations and welcome Vibhor, i also bought my GT 650R through gurgaon dealer in Sep and live in Dwarka
As for their shutting shop, it had to happen due to the kind of service and arrogance they had.

How did Delhi sbks service your bike? At your home or you visited the showroom?

                          • The issue has been diagnosed and repair pending now, was studying the whole night so sent a message to Delhi sbk dealer at 8 am that am having a issue with my bike, he called back at 10 AM telling me that the service head, North India was in Delhi around Buddh intl circuit and wanted to meet me as he was coming near Dwarka at that time, so i said great send him.

He called me at 12 pm and told me his location, woke up and the i went to pick him up, extremely helpful and very nice guy and we had a few points to discuss namely :

                            1. Future for the Gurgaon dealership - Its been shut as said before because they were rude and arrogant with garware as well and they didnt want bad reputation for them.

                            2. No workshop as yet - some issue with delhi govt and they are working hard to get it opened asap, in the meanwhile the mechanic is here after training and any issues or repairs would be carried out at a different location.

                            3. Brake light issue - he diagnosed everything and found that the front brake switch was faulty and had to replaced, placed an order and after exams i will go and get it fixed. Switch to be replaced FOC under warranty.

                            4. Vibrations from front - The high beam assembly was moving a little while revving beyond 5-6k rpm, he said it shouldnt be happening and its a assembly line fault so the whole projector assembly would be replaced FOC under warranty.

                            5. LH mirror - Moves down at speeds, no fix for it, replace FOC under warranty, this could be partly my fault, a 100cc racer hit my mirror once and since then its acting weird.

GT250R is also coming in the first quarter of 2011, no info disclosed on prices

Here is a pic after connecting the obd scanner, threw no error codes. Call it destiny or good luck - response time was 6 hours and was glad to meet the service head and reassured that in future if i need anything, i directly contact him and he will make sure everything is dispatched as quickly as possible.
