  • Completed 2500 On my GTN kms , and Now the Bike feels smoother , a lot lesser vibes compared to before ,
The revs build Up better now.
Oil changed to 10 W40 Semi synthetic ,
Gets heatd up too much in the summer Blr city Day to day traffic .
The 15W50 Oil is better to reduce heating as its thicker.

Using it in the city now and throwing it around Just like i do on the R15 ,
U turns or Low speeds Turns are no more a Problem .Very easy to take.

Did a round trip to ooty , almost hit a leopard in the Jungle , That thing was hardly 5 feet away , Jumped Out of nowhere , we both missed each other :-)

excellent Santa, but still i am very much dissapointed , i would have expected more miles on this , 2500km is very less according to ur standards. i know how u ride , seems like ur pretty much busy in work or on gal

I assume its bandipur National park ur encountered it, Damn we waited almost an hour to visit an wild animal .. but no luck... only elephants @ long distance we were able to see

      • Question on First-to-Second Gear Shift

Agree on the flickability part Santoosh and the U Turns etc. My advantage is that I'm 6'3" tall, so I easily get my feet on the ground when needed, that gives me a bit of confidence.

Im loving the power at low rpms, enough power to overtake people at most speeds in almost an instant. All of a sudden overtaking and going through traffic is very very easy and a lot safer. I only overtake when I get a clear sense that I will be safe during the overtaking inspite of unexpected behavior from the vehicle in front, and will have a safe/uncontested place to continue in after the overtaking. While the second part of the equation remains unchanged, the first part which is safely overtaking, much much easier as I dont stay in the dangerous overtaking phase for long, as I can accelerate much more quickly now and complete the overtaking and get to my safe zone.

I'm loving the bike and enjoying it tremendously. Some of the things I was wary about have not happened while others I had not thought about are bugging me.

I use the bike daily for everything, and use the car only when my wife and daughter need to travel. Same Bangalore city traffic etc., but thankfully I have never ever felt terribly uncomfortable due to heat. It get a bit warm, but thats about it. So that is one fear that I'm over now. The other thing was about poor fuelling at low rpms. No problems faced there either.

The thing Im worried about now, is the big clunk that happens when I shift from first to second gear. It was not there earlier, its coming in now. Its exactly the kind of loud clunk that happens when we shift from neutral to first. The service guy tells me that it is nothing to worry about and is normal, but I'm not convinced. What has been the experience of the users here?

        • Bike Luggage : for daily commute to office

My daughter will have her summer holidays starting so I don't have to drop her to school in the mornings.. and don't have to take my car out, unless it is raining in the morning. So I am planning to commute to office on my GT for next 2 months :-) .. WOW.....

Now the problem part is that, I have to do 30 odd Kms (one side) in traffic, and need to carry my laptop, some books and other nick-knack in my bag.. and I find this really difficult to carry it in the backpack.. this is a lot of pain when ever I have tried this so far, and the whole fun part of riding the bike is also compromised.

I am exploring the idea of a tank bag or a tail bag..has anyone used these for daily commute ?

          my main concerns are

          Tank Bag
          - has magnets, would that impact the laptop in long run ?
          - are these convenient as these will restrict the view to the meter console ?

          Tail Bag
          - Are these convenient and quick to put and remove on/off the bike ?
          - do they hinder in getting on and off the bike.. I am vertically challenged and only measure 5'6".
          - Are these safe in our society.. I have seen the cases of people picking up mobile phones etc from dashboard and running while you are waiting in your car on traffic signal.. as it would not be easy to look behind, would it be safe to have a tail bag and keeping your valuables in that ?

any other pros/cons that you can add...

where can I get these in Pune, or can I get something made to order ? not interested in buying online as I want to try these on the bike for fitting before purchase ..

          Cheers

^ I normally use a bungee cord to tie my [laptop]bag to the rear seat before I start ride.

10 bucks says, the leopard mistook the GTN's roar to its male companion and came out to greet...

This is very common from N - 1st (more of a Thud - happens in almost all of the 600's and above), less common when going from 1st to second, and again happens quite frequently, if you're down-shifting into 1st from 2nd at speeds of about 40k - 50k with clutch-in and closed throttle. Nothing to worry about, really.

I carry a laptop in my backpack (along with tools and spares) which comes close to 12kg, over a distance of 700kms every fortnight on the GT.
The backpack is secured with the help of not more than 3 bungee cords which is Rs.20 per piece. Has never even had the slightest slip of luggage at speeds of over 200k, crazy angles, battered roads and rains. I'd highly recommend for your daily use rather than tank pads (which is sure to scratch your new fuel tank)
or tail bag (never used one more than once, since i was not too fond of the aesthetics).

              ----

On a completely different note, had the GTR checked a short while after my second service a month ago
and all kinds of issues that had been plaguing my GT have been completely fixed. Thanks to some of the
knowledgeable engineers who happen to have visited from Pune to Bangalore.

What started out as a sensor or ECU related issue turned out to be massive oil deposit on spark plug (i dont know how it got there either).
Changed the plugs to another pair of OEM's and she now runs like a dream. Currently, done about 8500kms and 3rd service
is in another week or so at 9000kms. I started out on semi-synth and will be sticking to Motul 300v 15w50, going forward.

I suppose, ~3k for 3L of quality FS oil is do-able, given that the SVC would use some crappy oil and rip me off on the service bill anyway.
Anyone used it yet? Any feedback pls?

Second service due for my GT.... thinking of using Motul 7100 Fully Synthetic oil instead of Castrol Power1. Any suggestions?

An aggressive ripping friend of mine uses 7100 on his Gixxer 6 and is very happy with it. More than sufficient for everyday/street use.
I'd say stick to the 10w40 unless you have any special requirements of the 20w50.

I'm goin to use 7100 10W40 grade only. Im not going to rip like a racer
just a normal city use and weekend ride tats it.

                        Vijith,

As of now Garware SVC are using Castrol Power 1, if you want the one of your choice then you need to get it.

Contact Ravi Sanjeev in F/B, he is one who takes care of Motul distribution in Bangalore. You will get in a discount price too (650 per lt).

                          • long post

though i am not an gt owner i read the issue faced by mr.melroy and the loss of life of the mechanic. first of all in this case the owner has to do with nothing, mr.melroy was not wrong did nothing wrong. secondly, the guy who blamed mr.melroy is probably immature or was trying to SHIFT the blame on someone as he knew he would be answerable and get caught in all that incident. but the most important thing missing here is that when ANY company who is selling such higher capacity bikes needs to have a good staff with enough knowledge about the product that they are selling, proper training should be given before the product launch for all the guys in all the branches where ever it is located. mechanics should be highly trained how to handle such machines as for these are NOT zmr's or splendors for god's sake. each and every person who is working at such companies should know and understand that its the first time in our country such bikes are making an entry on a mass ground. even the customer must be made aware of what he is buying and what lessons are necessary to handle such machines.(personally i think we should have proper schools for giving sbk lessons as nowadays its easy own a sbk than before for a common man). i own an r15, here in pune in monarch yamaha, tilak road i get excellent service everytime not disappointed in two years even once. the service center does jobs of r1's as well i have seen the workshop inside out, clean, all genuine products being used for all the bikes, why recently only two days ago i went to my regular mechanic i saw only motul being used or wruth for all the bikes for chain lubing. the guys here get training each and everytime a new product is launched. this shows at what extent yamaha is taking its care and the customers too. after every service the next day we receive a call to gather the feedback on the service done and if not satisfied its rectified the very same day, now that's service. any company selling a premium product should understand and provide premium service too. alas, spiderman's grandfather was right with great power comes great responsibility. (i use nissin pads which come oem in yamaha they lasted for 15478kms for me)

                            • Got the bike after the second service, added Motul 7100 fully synthetic 10W40 engine oil.... Bike runs amazingly smooth also gear shifting has become easy. Need to take for a long ride to test the performance.
