Always slow down to the side of the ride, dont initiate a conversation ofcourse. No need to look at him either, may be you can adjust your gears and check again. Till then he would be done and then get back on track...

Also before stopping check for whom you stopping for, not any tom dick and harry, know the crowd and location, if its not feasible then slow down and keep riding. There is nothing much you can do, the more you run they will try keeping up with you...
How many times will you do this? What if everyday you encounter such people.

That's one thing which can't be avoided Binoy But, to an extent we can still have a lead over that guy.

Not necessarily, that purely depends on one's riding skills, which one gets over time.

Precisely what I meant in my post. By "Sped away" does not refer to mad speeds...but controllable speeds comfortable to the rider but more than the other guy.

I understand adrenaline filled teenagers tend to be a bit reckless. Felt kinda bad for the poor kid who had to end up in the hospital.

I dont accelerate away because they feel challenged. Its better to slow down and diffuse the situation. Wish there was something we could do in such situations other than ignore it. Was just thinking, maybe if i did something differently, could've prevented this boy from getting hurt.

        • Dont Buy Pretty Bikes

Another good reason to buy the GTN. Nobody can make out its a nice bike until they are really close, and by then its too late to take out the camera

But yes, I have had this one instance in which a middle aged guy (like me) was actually running over my leg on his Hero Honda CD100 while looking at my bike at a red light. It was funny coz we were almost at standstill and he is like nudging my leg with the front wheel of his bike all the while staring at the rear tyre or rear panel of my bike.

I have had only once instance of "racing" which didn't end well for the other guy even though I had slowed down and moved to the extreme right side of the road allowing him to pass.

But in instances when there is a nice clear road ahead, I would rather shoot ahead and disappear than slow down and let him pass.

This happens everyday and there is no escape from it. I have many time had teenagers circle my bike looking all around, going back and forth etc. What I do is

                1. fold the RVM's so that my concentration doesn't go on them while they are behind/side of me. (Believe me this has helped me greatly)
                2. Zoom if i get a chance of open road ahead.

Slowing down can be done, but how many times can we do it is the thing. By continuously doing that I will be ending up heating my bike more than usual and burning my thighs for the ample distance still left to reach my home.

Coming back to what happened, on one such incident I stopped my bike on the side of the road and let the guys pass me and go. They stopped ahead for some seconds and they left. I then started peacefully. These guys were in 4 bikes continuously going zig-zag, turning back, trying stunts and all sorts of non-sense around me.. But I am not sure whether everytime I'll do the same..

                        • Just thought of updating this thread as me and the white glory have finally completed our first long ride, oh yes am typing this message 600 kms away from Delhi from Palampur, Himachal Pradesh.*

It was just me and the bike, solo ride all along, was tough to convince my parents as they were worried with the hills part but riding a bike like GT in te city had become cumbersome, infact i had started getting bored of it, this trip has changed everything.

The bike has performed flawless, its a queen of the hills, the torque from the v twin engine is lovely and i did Chandigarh - Palampur covering over 250 kms in 4.5 hours flat with some breaks in between, this despite the roads here being in a terrible condition. It has taken in whatever fuel was fed to it, gave me thrill leaning hard into corners, did start heating up as the radiator was clogged with mud but the spinning fans kept it cool.
Only downer is that the aggresive riding position makes the back start paining after 2 hours onto it.

With this trip coming to an end on monday when i head back to delhi we will complete a cherished 5000 kms in 7 months of ownership with 1300 kms coming from this 5 day tour.
Will upload some pics when am back.

slight f*** up..didnt have armored pants, getting a full refund..and was offered a run on the track behind the pace car (which was a scorpio)
there were 2 or 3 others who had the same problem, decided to decline cause' after seeing the 1st session for bikes, i wanted to rip my engine with that exhaust all the way, wouldnt have been any fun going behind a scorpio

getting armored pants today itself, checking out couple of stores

had enrolled for just the 1 session, will enroll for 3 next time which is in jun
