They would definitely have to localise to keep costs down... The only reason the cbr250r is so cheap in India is because it is produced locally as compared to the ninja which is imported in kit form... Same logic basically... I'm sure the gt650r would make a lot more sense if it were priced more competitively... Especially with the heat expected from triumph soon... Not to mention the duc 795... It's going to be interesting...

    • Gt250r

Saw the GT250R yesterday at Pune Service station.. Almost identical to GT650R ... Not yet launched, it was the test vehicle..

      Main visible difference
Colour Scheme (the one there had a very different shade of Red)
      Rear Tyre is 150 section
      Exhaust is steel
Guess front had a single disk..
Weighs a whooping 190 KG (as told by the service in-charge) ..

BTW, Also got to know that Garware has got the tie-up with Triumph as well and the bikes will be assembled at the same plant at Vai, where GT is being assembled.. however Triumph will market and sell the bikes in its own brand name independently..

Gt250r definitely has dual discs, but the brake review is still not great, as per the reviews I have seen online... And from what I know, triumph is setting up a plant in Karnataka... It's already signed an mou with the government there...

                • Garware Motors Technician

a technician from the company is @ the showroom in delhi..
all complaints, bike niggles so on n so forth have been forwarded to him..

2nd service is due and i've had a clutch problem since i got the bike, it was lose when it was delivered, i didn't realise

a standard visit to the showroom, n the mechanic fixed it in a jiffy..
only for it to become lose again..adjusted it a couple of times myself..

company tech. said he'll open up the entire system and sort it out..sounds good..dropping the bike over either today or tom..

                  • Some Quick mods (cosmetic) planned

Got a new set of Dual Horns for the Bike (ROOTS brand, price 450/-), disc type, as the OEM went kapoot. Now the sound is also good and people on the road can hear that.. Not too loud but better than the OEM (which was actually pathetic)..

Next mod is to have the windshield converted to black .. perhaps will try with the black sunfilm.. asked the 3M guys, he said he can do that.. will give it a shot coming weekend..

Also planning to get the reflective rim strip ..

Actually this is the one major change they had done while bringing to India, the ARAI rejected the original Horn, so they have replace the Horn to get it qualify, this is the news i heard some time back

                      • Great Customer Service and Attitude

I just hopped over to the workshop to check out a resonance buzzing near the instrument cluster and to check the rather hard first to second gear shift.

                        Guess what they did?
                        1. They put some cushioning between the instrument cluster and the mini covering and the buzzing noise is gone.
                        2. They replaced the rectifier relay as it was in the affected lot (Recall?). Please note that I had no problem with it and it was working just fine.
                        3. They tightened the lock mechanism as it was moving around a bit
                        4. They tightened the chain and cleaned and lubed it
                        5. They adjusted the headlight as I wanted it a bit higher
                        6. They replaced the mirrors as the original one was a bit loose and at high speeds (130-140+) it would dip down.
                        7. They adjusted the clutch

                        Total charge - Rs.0.00 only.

The gear shift from first to second is still hard, but not worringly so. I think I'm officially a fan of Satya Mitra Motors, and if this is what all Hyosung dealers are like then I think this company would compete well in the market on the basis of its terrific customer centricity.

                          • I've gone to both the Bangalore as well as Chennai dealers with some pretty weird requirements as well as service requests. I like their friendly attitude.

The best part is that Garware takes their regional svc engineers to Pune and have them trained by Hyosung/S&T folks.

                            --

They reached out to a few of the owners who've had the RR unit issue (Such as me) and are not only replacing it for existing owners from the batch but for upcoming 2012 bikes as well.

The fact they they're listening to all that the owners have to talk about and actually doing something with the feedback - and that too within a matter of one month, puts my mind at ease.
