If it is in chennai that you saw, then it is me.. but in your case.. no

@Brat: Actually Due to various reasons haven't ridden my GT regularly enough. I have just reached around 4k.. just office rides in traffic thats all. Haven't even crossed mahabs(80kms at a stretch) so far.

Good idea regarding listing the issues. Let me start then.. Let us have the subject as 'GT650R niggles' for such post. would be easy to search.
    Issues I have faced:

    1. Fuel gauge fault: The fuel gauge shows 2 bars above actual. So the bike never shows the reserve sign leading to we getting stranded on the middle of no-where.

Symptoms: Fill the tank and you would have full tank on display even after riding nearly 100 kms and thinking wow what a mileage. or waiting for reserve to blink to fill up and then getting caught in the middle of the road when you come to know that the nearest bunk is 15 kms away.

    Immediate Action: Fill petrol.
    Final Solution: Fuel gauge replaced.

    2. Battery failure: The battery drains without any notice and that too even if you have been riding it for some distance. The fault is with the RR unit which is supposed to charge the battery, but it does not.

Symptoms: The start-up motor would have a hiccup but might start your bike on the second or third try. The horns go weak. The headlight dims. If in this case you stop your bike, then the electric started would not start your bike again. If you manage to push start then you can run until next 2-3 kms before your ECU also runs out of charge and you will see a glowing FI light and the bike will eventually misfire and stop itself. now you have to lift your bike and reach the showroom. Ofcourse on a toe van.

Immediate Action: A new/recharged battery can make your bike run for 20 kms provided you use less of horn and headlight. After which you have to recharge again.. No.. online recharge is not available..

Final Solution: Get the RR unit replaced.

      • I'll be putting up my ownership experience soon when I get the pictures from a friend.

The bike is working fine so far, and its fun and quite practical given the fact that it is quite maneuverable in Bangalore traffic and does not heat up much even in stopped traffic.

But looking at the fundamental component issues, its quite disheartening and deters me from planning long rides out of Bangalore.

Is there nothing that existing customers like us can do in a co-ordinated fashion to let Garware Motors know that their quality standards are unacceptable and to force them to acknowledge these known and documented quality issues and possibly do recall style replacements of faulty components.

        • Saw a Black GT650N yesterday (Thursday night) at the Koramangala Sarjapur Road signal near Reliance Fresh / Magnolia restaurant. I was in my car, tried to roll down the windows and get his attention, but couldnt.

Was wearing a nice black/grey helmet, probably LS2

          Anybody here?

A request to all...after a 5 Kms ride in day time ,try to touch and feel the RR unit temperature...If it is very hot.ie., you cannot hold your fingers against the RR cooling fins, then it is obvious that the RR rating is not adequate..it is something that Garware/Hyosung must take remedial action on....If the RR is replaced on failure and everything seems to be ok,remember it is just a question of time before it happens again.and hope it happens in warranty..
A temporary fix will be to have a thick Aluminum plate behind the RR and increase the heat dissipation ability...but the proper solution is to have a RR capable of handling the total load demand of the Bike's electrical system...a damaged RR can damage the ECU ,Ignitor, injector and console components.

I don't know where Magnolia is, but if it was around 930 pm, might've been me I do have a LS2 Phobia.

                  • Meter Problem on the GT .

                    1. Plonk into 1st gear , and rev the bike to 7-8k rpm and then shift to 2nd .
Or in any gear , shift at very high rpm.

The Meter Goes Bonkers , The Rpm meter shows Idle read like a diesel engine. The bike though idles at normal rpm , But the meter , i suspect , is getting abnormal current from the RR unit and things Go bad.

A shutdown of the engine kill switch and the thing is back to normal.
This is not only on my bike , Tried 3-4 bikes and the same happens .

Most ppl , just dont notice it at all.

                    • Question to All members.

Should I buy GT650R , Is it worth buying it after hearing all these issues.
I have now finalized daytona but it would take alteast 1 or 1 and half more year till i save to buy it.

                      Things against Daytona.
-Price 8 lacs : Way beyond my budget at present , will have to wait for one and half year at max.
-I have ridden GT and i know that even at 72PS it way too powerful , i don't think i would be able to use GT beyond it's 75-80 % potential.
so daytona might be too much to handle.

I switched to driving car 2 years back and since then i have not ridden more than 5000Km ( in last 2 years).
This bike would be only used for weekend morning rides i.e not more than 750Km a month.
My back is also not in great condition, I cannot manage more than 50-60 mins ride on these bikes (daytona and GT), GT650N can be another option but in terms of engine both are same ( so would have same niggles)

Only thing which drifted me towards daytona is Sound of inline four engine.

                      Please advise.

That's weird. I haven't noticed even if my bike did something like that (probably mine behaves). You planning to take it to service center (or already have)?
Mine is sitting in service. I am planing to pick it up monday morning.

Hi pp180.The Hyosung GT650R is a good option if your requirement is power and looks.Yes some buyers have rectifier problem which causes the battery to drain but that problem is taken care of.
If you are complaining of back problem, you should probably consider the GT650N as it has a more upright seating position and flat handle bars. And the Daytona 675R is not a inline4, it's a inline3 cylinder configuration.

Some of my friends who've gone for the GT650R from the N250R are not particularly happy with the GT in many aspects, whereas the ones who's never tasted the build quality of Kawa appear to be more than happy with the GT.

                                Here are some specific answers from my perspective;

                                1) Weight and aggressive riding posture - Making it a difficult machine to commute on
[Brat] The GT is not as nimble as the N250R nor is it as flickable, weight is something that is obvious on either of the 650's but once you cross the first gear (or above 60kmph) the steed becomes very manageable even in traffic. You will get used to this after about a month or so of riding. The 650 mill is more or less equally capable on the N650 as well as the GT, the only advantage of the GT650 is that, being a distinct characteristic of a v-twin - tends to offer more useable torque lower into the rev range and sounds blissfully awesome. Whereas, the REAL fun begins on the N650R if you go higher up the range and in no time objects on the RVM start getting smaller (Very similar to the parallel twin N250R).

N650R powerplant will feel butter smooth through-out the entire powerband while the moment you cross 6k RPM on the GT, you will most definitely feel the v-twin vibes on the GT, again - a very character of the engine itself.

I personally use the GT to commute on a daily basis to work (40km) and do a weekly roundtrip of about 700km from Bangalore to Chennai, infact i love the aggressive riding position and given the amount of fun you get to have with the bike, it is not as bad as it appears.

Those who dont hit the right posture on the GT will quickly develop pain in the throttle wrist. Plant yourself properly and the kind of handling this seating posture offers is delightful for a 200kg 650 bike.

                                2) Build quality, and

The build quality is definitely not as good as the Kawasaki. Anyone who is upgrading from an N250R to a GT650R can clearly feel this gap in terms of finely made material. While the switchgear and electronics are excellent, the paint quality, fit and finish leaves a lot to be desired.

Unfortunately, none of us could give you a very long term personal experience since it has not been very long since the India release of the GT itself. But from what i can tell after clocking several thousand kms on the GT, the koreans are still trailing behind the Japs.

                                3) Maintenance and after sale service

I have no complaints in this department. Given that I had been through ECU related issues, etc. I am quite pleased with the way my issues have been addressed. My personal experience is limited to the Chennai and Bangalore SVC's only. Either of them have service mechanics who are not all that great in terms of technology and know-how but they are capable of getting the issue resolved, no matter how much ever complicated issues i go to them with. Spares availability is pretty decent.

Maintenance? Its never been a hassle. The general - Daily wash, Weekly wax, chain lube every 700kms, break pad check every 1000kms, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary.

Whether the bike is worth buying or not is something you'll have to figure out, it depends on what you are expecting out of your $$$. It is possible for some of us to provide you with an unbiased opinion if you can tell us what your are looking for in a 650, apart from the ones mentioned above - which is quite general.

                                Very well said!!
                                Keep the rubber side down.
                                Ciao!!
