The way my Impulse does is that the suspension goes in dead lethargically with no inherent stiffness that the spring and damper possess.

When i compared the same with a new Impulse around I noticed a significant difference. Although the suspension works fine still with no problems whatsoever but I'm pretty sure its hampering the riding characteristics of the bike.

PS : New suspension is worth 7-8000rs last i heard.

I happen to be on the whatsapp group of Impulse, someone faced a similar situation, he took the rear monoshock to the shocker guys, they changed the oil and the bush and he says its working like a charm after that.

With the remote areas you travel most probably its taken its toll.

thank you for the info. well i was thinking of getting rynox optimus but now as you said its hampers handling i better avoid it. will stick to tail bag.

                None there.

Go for the XR150 workshop mannual instead. Easily available over net. The Impulse shares almost everything with the XR.

Keep the ZMA engine.I hope you have also got the stock engine.Understand from the Previous owner what mods are done in case you need to get to stock.

Let me know if U want to change to the stock engine... I hv a stock engine which has done 16000km... I upgraded recently to karizma engine

If U r using the bike purely for city commute, karizma engine will not make much difference and mileage on the stock engine is better

If U r going to do a lot of off road, the karizma engine with a 15 drive sprocket will give U much better bottom end

hi guys. I am new here. just thought ill share the little bit i know about the hero impulse as a platform / rolling chassis.

                      Owners manual - https://ownersmanuals2.com/get/honda...s-manual-60805
basically its the same bike as an xr125L (honda code name JD19)

                      evolution:

derived from the 1979: XR185 (twin shock then) ..which became the 1981-83: XR200R (Prolink chassis) 1984-2016: A new full cradle chassis (which is almost the same as todays hero impulse chassis)

NX150/160/XR150/125L/Impulse are all the same with diff. bore sizes. most parts will be able mix-match.

                      Some factoids:
The 84-85 XR200R/250R chassis became the 86-02 XR200R chassis, every chassis part interchanges except for engine related items.
All 84-85 XR200R/250R swing arms, linkages, shocks are the same except for maybe springs and internal shock valving.
The 84-85 XR200R/250R link (marked KF0) is 2.5mm longer than 86+ XR200R and will lower the later almost 1/2".
All 84-02 XR200Rs share most fork parts and front wheels (not a typo).
86+ XR200R SA are physically the same as 84-85 XR200R/250R SA.
84-85 and 86-88 linkage is AL, later is steel (or iron).
All 84-85 XR200R/250R, 86-89 XR250R, and 86-02 XR200R use the same rear hub, some variations in backing plate and lever materials.
All 84-85 XR200R/250R and 86-91 XR200Rs have the same suspension travel specs and similar ride height. Later XR200Rs have approximately 2" less travel and a lower seat.

So, technically, a Xr250 Swing arm from 86-89 (all aluminum + prolink) is a direct bolt on the impulse with Linkage weld here:

                      Front fork :

The 86-89 CR125 forks/triples/wheel/brake will bolt right into the XR200 frame with the addition of (I seem to remember) a 17mm thick spacer on top of the top bearing but under the bearing clamping nut. I am fitting mine with a 89' CR125 cartridge fork with triple clamps and 86-89 XR250 Aluminium swinger.
The 86-88 CR250/500 forks will also also work, it's just that they have a slightly heavier spring. Honda used the 26x47 (tapered) bearings on a lot ofdifferent bikes including all of the XRs, all of the big CRs up to 2000, CR80/85 to date which will be a direct fit to the Impulse steering stock which is also 26x47.

I feel the suspension on the stock bike have limitations and hence this information could help people who want to build a formidable bike after they have already done an engine swap.

My take on engine swap / Karizma engine performance enhancement:

                      1. I use an NS200 carb with a UNI filter (115 main jet, 2 1/4 turns out) - works great
                      2. Use the impulse CDI as the Karizma CDI has a rev limit at about 9k rpm
                      3. The BBR high lift cams, BBR 240cc bog bore kit (forged), HD valve springs, Pro X con rod, TUST heavy duty clutch kit, Magura Hyd Clutch FOR THE CRF230F are ALL A DIRECT BOLT ON. With an appropriate exhaust, it should make it a different bike altogether - I run everything by the Magura and its been 35000 kms so far.
                      4. XR200 (2v), crf230f, crf230m, slr230 - all the transmissions are 6 speed and are a direct bolt on.
                      5. The real wet weight of an impulse with 9L fuel and tools strapped on + ZMA engine swap is 286 Lbs (As measured in a weigh bridge)

                      This is my bike:

                              - 6 speed Trans - Ebay.com -> The 6th gear ratio is the same as 5th in Karizma, but the first 4 gears are closer ratio which will enable you to go faster in tighter trails.
                              - Pro X con rod - Ebay.com - Pricey at 110$ but worth it.
