Hey all. Hope everyone is doing great. Well this is my 1st post. I have been reading this thread when it started. Since i'm an lazy fellow never replied. Finally made up my mind to reply. Everyone in this thread seems to be a bike enthusiastic. A big appreciations Let me introduce. I'm Ilanchezhian, 22 yrs old from Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. You can call me Ilan. I got my Hero Impulse ( Black ) registered & delivered at 31st December 2011. You may wonder why I registered on the last day. My showroom people won't deliver without registering and I wanted my bike with me to celebrate new year, so that's why. Very 1st day I removed mirrors, number plate, saree guard & bumper. 3rd day I got a nail stuck in rear wheel and tore the tube. While replacing only I found there is no center stand with the help of jockey fixed it.

Since I bought at the time my college ends, I rarely rode it. Almost done 10k kms by now. Used to ride in hills more as you know Western Ghats is nearby. Fell down once when I cornered hard at a hair pin bend in hill station. By God's grace nothing big happened to me as well as bike. Just scratches. Then realized Impulse is not for cornering hard. Feeling sleepy ? :P That's it I'm done.

Planning to install K&N air filter, AFR monitor, NGK Iridium spark plug, Spit fire cable, HID or angel eyes. Actually planned a long ago. Due to lack of good mechanic at Coimbatore city haven't done. I do welcome any of your suggestions. Thanks fellows #PeaceOut

Same day i read the posts, went there and booked the bike (13th July) without even test-riding. Saved me almost 9k.

Hey..Congrats on your new ride. Well, you returned the favour by quoting the page numbers to all modifications.
I'm thinking of upgrading the headlight. It is pathetic.

          Guys

What is the air pressure that you maintain in both the wheels?

The mechanic at the showroom told me to maintain 35psi at the rear and 26 at front. I've been maintaining the same so far.
But, the user manual shows 22 psi for both wheels and I tried that today. felt 22 psi is too low. May be that is for off roading.

What would be the ideal air pressure for city or highway use?

          Regards

            hi...

air preassure for front and rear tyre is 22 psi without pillion and with pillion same is 22 in front and 28 in rear tyre. You can keep rear between 22 to 28 depending upon your need and style of riding. I keep 22 in both as I ride solo mainly but even if I am with pillion I keep it same. never listen to that mechanic again...

              PROUD TO BE IMPULSER.

& guys.... i had told u abt the idlying problem rite. i took my bike to showroom to get it fixed.

i have no idea how do HR people hire them. i dint know wat was the problem. some guy opens the whole CARB n cleans n fixes it. stil problem dint solve, he calls another guy to check, by devils wish he does same thing over again.....

Be4 the idlying was at 3k rpm. after the fiddled with it it was at 3.5k rpm. i was almost in tears

i took my bike there at 10:30 am n guys i dnt even sit til 2 o clock. & the best part is they couldnt rectify the problem.
i knew the problem wil take some time to to get rectified so dats the reason i went at 10:30 so dat my bikes gets fixed early.

but the service manager tells to get on monday as many other bikes r there for service. i was so pissed off.
fine i respect them as its they also get 200-300 bikes on weekend to get serviced. but that doesnt mean they ignore it so badly...

the sales guys whom i took the bike from says he wil get it fixed but doesnt get up much from his seat. he comes just tells the service guy 2 sentences then he goes back.

today went n gave the bike to get fixed. i dnt know wat torture r they giving to my DRAGON. dont feel like sittting in office . want to go n see my DRAGON soon.

I asked those service center guys this same question, they told if ur too much into off-roading then u maintain wats mentioned in the manual. or else normal 26 front and 32 - 34 in rear wheel.

These 650cc bikes have a max speed of 100-120 mph. Whereas a 400cc sports bike can kick their ass. But that is where the difference is. Can a busa or gxr or CBR do the Baja or Dakar. NO!!!!!

After riding from Kargil to Rangdum, the guys on Bullets, ZMA and pulsars were crying with back pain. But I had a smile coz I never worried abt the bad/no roads in that section. That's the same smile all of us have when we just ride over a speed breaker and all other bikes slow down.

It is a DS not a sports bike and has its own advantages/disadvantages. U want top/cruising speed better than a FZ then buy a sports bike.

Here's what you can try - go to a reputed street mechanic or better yet ask a friend who knows what he is doing to help you:

                    1. Check if the choke wire is routed in a way that it taut all the time, as if the choke were always partially 'on'. If it is, you simply need to release it from wherever is is lodged.

                    2. Clean the carb pilot jet, also known as the slow jet with a strand of wire and thinner if the tiny perforations appear to be choked.

I had these issues with the 11/2011 Impulse I bought in May 2013 and had to figure these things out for myself after suffering at the hands of nincompoop mechanics.

Earlier in the day, on the way to sai motors (Banshankari) from my home (Marathalli), I was still in double mind to decide on hero impulse.
stopped at a bajaj show room, asked for a quotation and test ride of 200NS. was told that the test ride can be arranged tomorrow, on road price 1.1 lakh.
sat on the bike. found it heavy (relative to impulse or duke). But, is a VFM product, considering the fact that even if I sell it off, after an year, I'll get good price.
Not the same case with Impulse.

should I buy impulse or wait 1 day for test ride of 200 NS?

Further down the way, KTM show room, BTM.

test ride and quotation of duke 200. 1.52k onroad. The bike is light. But not the price.

There is a Duke 390, a Ninja 300, a Ninja 600, and the mighty RC8 on display. But, what caught my attention is the 350 SX-F. Tall, feather light, awesome suspension setup.
drooled on the bike for some time. But the bike is only for dispaly. It is not road legal.

But the 350 SX-F made me realize that I like these kind of bikes more than the sharp handling RCs or the naked saports.

Reached Sai motors (Hero show room). after seeing 350 SX-F, I could now appreciate the Hero Impulse more, for it's dirt bike like design, albeit with inadequate suspension and bhp.
But then, the on road price is 75K.

Told them that I'll go for green colour Impulse. Bike was readied in 2 hours. Paid full amount and took the bike home.

                      Next Bike:
Hoping that KTM launches 350 SX-F, if not next year, 2 or 3 years down the line.
If it is not road legal, just put on lights, horn, and a saree guard.

The other day, I was on my way to office on my green Impulse. There was a turn on the two way road, I'm getting into the corner, and saw another green Impulse coming out of the corn.
So during that split second, this ImPulse is right before me with the rider in a motocross helmet. That's when I realized that this bike has a big road presence though it is a small bike.
It is an attention magnet. Where ever you go, you are bound to get curious second looks from the onlookers.

My bike is still in Run-in. Finished some 300 odd KM.
The bike is good for city riding. Handle bar, foot peg, and seating position geometry works well.
The best part of the bike is lower end torque. It helps the bike accelerate in city traffic and be ridden like, say a two stroke RX 100 and I still get get 52KMPL in bumper to bumper traffic (keep the rpm below 5k/speed below 59kmph)
For some one like me, who is used to a Pulsar 150, the Gearing on Impulse is a bit confusing though.
The first gear is too short. The bike pulls at it's best in 2nd and 3rd gears.

The bike tends to lag in higher gears, during the climbs.

I am yet to find out how the bike behaves post 5k RPM. It will take some time to complete the run-in and I'm waiting to see what surprises the bike throws when it is ripped.

And yes, some times during the winds, I feel the bike is too light and if I'm in lower gears, it might just shoot away right between yor legs. Now I know , it is a good thing that seat is not designed FLAT like a true dirt bike, but the rider seat is sloped so that the rider sits in the bike rather that on it.

I can only imaging how the KTM Duke 390 would be with its power to weight ratio.

                          Regards

My bike is still in Run-in. Finished some 300 odd KM.
The bike is good for city riding. Handle bar, foot peg, and seating position geometry works well.
The best part of the bike is lower end torque. It helps the bike accelerate in city traffic and be ridden like, say a two stroke RX 100 and I still get get 52KMPL in bumper to bumper traffic.

You would be amazed at Impulse's capabilities and will be proud for owning it.

                            Regards
                            Vinod

                            Hi Vinod,

U r right, it sure is a head turner n very neat bike to ride. Video is superb, thanx for sharing.

Other day to check mileage i filled 1 litre petrol, it ran for 56kms n went on reserve. Again to confirm, i filled a litre from a different petrol pump n it ran only 35kms n went on reserve. Same riding style, In fact yesterday it was city n highway ride but today it was only highway @55kmph.

                            What cud b the reason?!

hi Guys. after mailing to the hero motor corp head office n lot of stuff happened i got my bike yesterday...

Al thought i had planned to celebrate my Bday in Mysore...... my plans were washed away coz of these ASC persons.

But finally my problem is solved. The CRAB was entirely changed. they showed me the old Crab which they changed. I asked them was the problem. still the answer was "We have to find out still..." i was left with jaws opened listening to that.

What ever..... now my Dragon is awesome to ride on.....

Enjoyed my ride to office. All were staring at it like its some alien

Just need to change the Back indicators as leg touches when i climb n get down. CAN ANY BODY SUGGEST ANY SMALL INDICATORS??????? ANY OTHER BIKE'S INDICATORS WHICH WOULD FIT????? O WAS THINKING ABT DUKES. THEY R SMALL N BRIGHT. WAT DO U GUYS SAY?

I am thinking to buy a commuter in Mumbai city and looking at the roads or absence of them I have decided to go for the Impulse. I have already booked Duke 390 but I won't be able to commute 30km on it daily in bumper to bumper traffic and potholed roads. Actually I don't want to waste the premium Metzeler tyres on Mumbai roads and instead use them for the weekend rides. So please suggest if I should go forward and book Impulse. Going through this entire thread will take time hence I am asking it -- whether its a good bike in city conditions and what are the common issues you guys have faced till now?
