I have never ever shared details about my Impulse except commented on some posts . But perhaps today is the day to share :
I already own a Duke 200 and have over a period of time have started to Love the Bike . I later bought a second hand Fazer which had done about 2000 kms genuinely ; only because it was the Limited Edition Midnight Black ( Black & Gold ) . About 2 years Back I had desperately tried to buy a new one but they were sold out .
As soon as I bought the Duke ; The Impulse always Intrigued me , but I never really gave it a thought seriously because I already had 2 bikes . So I started reading this Hero Impulse Ownership Experience on X Bhp to satisfy my urge . The more I read , the more it Intrigued me . Of what I can remember Naren Charan & Amit Bendre because these guys ride & have done trips on the Impulse . Gyro did a lot of Mods and that intrigued me too . Of recent , Burnout did a excellent Photo Article on Daman .
I do ride for work about 200 kms a week on broken roads and the Duke was not really the right choice for it . The Fazer was much more comfortable . Somehow I always imagined that the Impulse would be perfect for the Job . So in the month of June I took Showroom delivery of the Impulse by paying Rs 54600/- . Monsoon is the worst time to buy any Bike and definitely not the Impulse . But I really had no choice ; either I bought it or lost the opportunity to Buy the Impulse at that incredible Price .
From day one I had the problem of noise in the Front fork & T . I might have visited atleast half a dozen Garages & ASC's . Changed the T the Upper & Lower Cone set but no recourse . Last week I have finally been able to get it solved & the noise is almost gone...
I intend to keep the Impulse Stock ( No Modification) because I have a 5 year warranty on it . Not happy at all with the Brakes even though there is a front Disc. Might put Auxillary LED"S Lights if ASC permits .

        Thanks & Regards ,

Hey buddy could you please help me understand what exactly you did to solve the cone set sound issue? I'm still facing the same issue.

              Hi Guys,

I thought its right time that I should share my Impulse purchase and Leh Experience with you all.

It all began 2 years Back when I planned a Solo Leh trip but due to my accident in National Championship in Yamaha one make Race, this plan went for a toss.

After 2 years a colleague of mine Javed ingeniousnut joined the the Leh Dream.

This time niks_devil666 and NarenCharan shared their experiences with the Impulse and that gave a lot of boost up for to purchase this bike just to complete my Leh dream.

Javed and I used to sit hours and hours to plan the trip and look for second hand Impulses. But eventually I made a decision and bought a new Impulse.

Cutting things short - I got Leh'd on the Impulse.

We started from Manali and came back via Srinagar.

Below are some images of our trip. Enjoy!

First of all the front suspension works just fine . In fact superb compared to other bikes ! The problem is in return / rebound there is a Khat ( Metal to Metal ) sound . I went to several Garages & ASC's & spent entire day but without success ....
Finally the guy who solved it said he removed each & every part to Identify the sound , The Headlight/ Fairing/ Speedometer and took a test ride . Over a period of 3 days he did this & finally opened up the forks . It seems there was a washer in the forks that had not been positioned properly in the right side fork .
The above is the best explanation I can give you as the same was given to me by the Manager at the Service Centre (as I could not sit at the garage while this was being done ) .

Thank you very much to post such beautiful images. If you can also share nittiy gritties of Impulse such as - bike preparation n its response on this terrain. Did it stop due to altitude or u felt lack of torque or anything that you felt is great, good or bad about Impulse in such extreme conditions. This information will be very helpful personally for me, as I tend to embark on unplanned trips alot.

                    Issues faces initially -
                    1. Lack of torque
                    2. Breathlessness
                    3. Dirt/water splash from front wheels

Mods done before and during the trip -
                    1. removed the nozzle just above the air filer
                    2. Copper wire mod in the lower section of the carburettor (you need to get it done from some trained mechanics - hero moto corm mechanics don't even know about it)
                    3. No mod for water splash, bought gum boots.

                    Headlight beam is below adequate.
On my way back home the bike started smoking slightly. But I revved it, cooled her down and then she was smooth again.
Suspensions are awesome, carried spare tyre tubes but they never got used.

I took the bike to the Himalayas within 12 days of purchase and 1000 km of run, if you calculate, then it's almost 100 km daily run and 1 day of service and one day rest before a 350 km per day travel of another 10 day long awesome trip!

In total she completed 4500km in 20 days with all the terrains and all the abuse. Would share some videos of our trip in my next post.

So a thin copper wire is coiled around the nozzle in the middle from the lower section of the carburettor. Do not know more details as the mechanic refused to tell more with a smile

That's great yaar, u did the real endurance test of this little bike...EVen Hero wouldnt have imagined that their machine can go thru all this n yet live to tell the tale. I also feel the lack of torque at times but its ok since its very smooth and suspension is just super plush!

Burnout : The Oxygen at higher altitudes is much lower , so proper combustion does not take place due to lack of Oxygen . I suppose a thin copper wire is used to compensate for that by reducing the supply of petrol to the Carb ( Pease corrct me if I am wrong )
