There shouldn't have been any water there in the first place, unless condensation occurred or if water entered the area when the fuel tank was opened. How much fuel was in the tank?

To my knowledge, liquids that collect along the fuel spout's outer ring will drain out from the overflow pipe located on the left of the petrol tank's fairing (?). Water, if it seeped in would collect in this rim and drain out without entering the main fuel tank.

I was just concerned IF it can enter, but i guess it has not entered. Previously i had honda activa which has the fuel tank opening under the seat so no question of water seepage.Originally posted by The Mountain View PostNo modern bike will allow liquid water to enter the gas tank. If you look at the underside of the cap, you'll see that there's a substantial rubber gasket that seals against the opening of the fuel tank, just like every other modern vehicle.
What kinds of vehicles have you been driving previously, that you believe the gas cap isn't waterproof?
There was water when i opened the lid when i was at the fuel pump as my bike was in reserve.Originally posted by nirvan View PostTo my knowledge, liquids that collect along the fuel spout's outer ring will drain out from the overflow pipe located on the left of the petrol tank's fairing (?). For gear shifts-tighten that small thin rod so that free ply is nill between gear lever and other end where that rod is attached. (rod is between gear shifting lever and base of bike where inside gear levers r located) Hope it ll help u with sleek and butter smooth gear shifts
abt water in fuel tank-it is impossible as no company will want water to enter fuel tank and customers running for replacement. Even after washing the bikes, its not present so big NO NO after rain. May be ur fuel cap is culprit. Janesh.J if u find it next time, better ride to SVC and show them the water and ask them to explain.

Guys a problem with my bike
i sometimes rip the bike till its redline
and in the 1st gear i rev it till 9500rpm and in the 2nd gear i shift at 10000rpm and at that time , the engine gives a very loud noise and bike just stucks as if its in neutral and later after few seconds it becomes fine
why is it so
and today the bike stopped twice in between the traffic giving a red light
.
i clocked 1450 kms
finished 1st servicing 500 kms back
and using MOTUL 7100 oilLast edited by hunkofgals; 07-04-2012, 11:13 PM.

Sorry to say: but doesnt mean that you have successfully completed your 1000 km mark so you can do what ever with bike..
it is a simple mechanical machine, ripping so much at this early stage will definitely give you unexpected results.
if you give respect to you bike it will respect you back, anyways
it is an electronic fuel injection bike. ripping it in short gear at so much rpm puts pressure on Efi at it open all of it throttle very quickly.. that means high petrol content mixture moves to chamber and your exhaust has to through out that much exhaust gases instantly leads to abrupt noise.
a red light shown is the off position of EFi which it normally shows when bike rests.. need not to worry about that.. its normal
my personal suggestion is that dont go for so much reaping. it will definitely harm your engine in long run and there is great possibility that it performance might get reduce drastically.. so have little patience till 3000km mark. and even after that enjoy ride with patience.

Hi KTM owners... have been watching this thread for sometime now... am planning to get a duke too and was wondering if the Power parts etc are readily available with the dealer and can be fixed at the time of delivery itself.
I live in coimbatore and there are no PBKs here and the Bajaj dealers have no idea about the power parts etc... actually am looking for the full kit - (referring to the First impression thread on the duke).. pls let me know if its available in chennai or bangalore.
PS sorry if this question is already answered in the previous pages... am not a very patient person so just went thru a few pages of the thread.
Many thanks in advance

Questions here are -
? Is bike not smooth above 7000 rpm? I can't ask you to relate it with 200 NS as probably not many have ridden it at that level. Just comment about general smoothness.
I have recently had a short trip and was constantly doing around 100 in top gear. The Bike was never felt stressed. It's actually the sound of the exhaust which creates an impression that the Bike is not smooth.
? What is Duke's top end? MG claims 200 NS's top end as 146. Considering +6kmph speedo error too, NS seems to be faster than Duke (136 kmph?).
I am not sure about 200NS, but Duke can reach 136 - 138 IMHO. I tried upto 134 but didn't put more effort to cross it.
This is for Newrider and for all other aspirants. Coolant dripping, front suspension oil leaks, engine over heating and gear shift problems are not at ll common to every Duke. Coolant drips if filled above max level and engine gets too hot. Suspension oil leak is rare and happens if not maintained properly. Engine heating is normal in this Bike and happens only if ridden in low gears. Gear shit issue can be taken care by the SVC.Originally posted by Newrider88 View PostHello all, i am looking forward to buy duke but its issues are holding me back. I have heard of coolant dripping, front shocker leaking, gear shifting problem, too much engine overheating, spare part availability etc. Are these issues minor and can be sorted or i have to face these and live with these ?

Spare parts availability is an issue IMO and would take a bit time to get resolved.
It's really good that you consolidated all important info's in one post. This will definitely help the new riders and new owners.Originally posted by Bplus View Post1. What should I keep in mind during the initial 1000 KM (run-in period) ?
...............
.
Ditto. You have exactly consolidated the actual issues and psedu-issues here. Howver coolant level drops after few days of delivery is true. The problem may be higher heating during runin period. Also I have inspected some ready to deliver Dukes in the SVC with different levels of coolant in them. Majority were having coolant level just above MIN mark.Originally posted by The Mountain View PostJust to keep this topic up-to-date, if you're referring to the discoloration on the exhaust header, there's nothing wrong with it; that's the expected behavior of a bare stainless steel exhaust that has been heated.
Second, the suspension peeling issue: this seems to be a recent development, but is not unexpected for a coated spring. Technically, yes, it's cosmetic, but KTM should have foreseen this one, and used something more appropriate for the coating on the spring.
Third, all Bajaj is doing is selling the Duke and providing the after-sales service. Any technical faults lie squarely with KTM and their engineers.
So far, legitimate issues with the bike are as follows (if I recall correctly):
- Drive chain quickly stretches, and starts slapping on the swingarm, causing noise.
- Coolant quickly drops below minimum line after delivery from showroom
- Stumbling and/or stalling off-idle
- Coating on rear spring wearing through very quickly
Non-issues include:
- Exhaust header discoloration
- Sensation of heat in stop-and-go traffic
- Front brake strong enough to lift the rear wheel/rear wheel skids easily
IMHO the top two issues are chain loosening and chain noise; and stalling in first gear after a hard ride/run.
Not on Duke Bro. The recommended grade is 20W50 so technically anything which is less than W50(e.g. 10W40) or more than 20W is not recommended. Anything less than 20W or more than W50 is technically OK but may change the engine behavior slightly.Originally posted by Akshay Jain View Postcan we use shell fully synthetic oil which is 10w-40 . 4T . API SM, JASO MA2 Grade .. ? ( oil recommended by ducati)
BTW do you live in an area cold enough which commands oil of 10W ??
All Power parts are not available yet, except maybe the sticker, tank caps etc. And for costly power parts or power wear you have to place an order through KTM dealer AFAIK.Originally posted by JOSH5898 View PostHi KTM owners... have been watching this thread for sometime now... am planning to get a duke too and was wondering if the Power parts etc are readily available with the dealer and can be fixed at the time of delivery itself.

60 - 65 will the speed when its ridden at 4000 and 5000 rpm on 6th gear. While crossing 5000 rpm in 6th gear the Rev limiter light doesn't blink. Is that the case with RPM 2 as well ?Originally posted by Rohan200ns View Postguys , what is the speed of duke when its ridden at 4000 and 5000rpm on 6th gear ?Last edited by bala.gg; 07-05-2012, 07:58 AM.

That light is actually the Gear shift indicator, and there is no gear after 6th so it doesn't blink. The rev limiter is what cuts the power @10500 rpm. Haven't yet crossed 1000 so i don't know about RPM 2..Originally posted by bala.gg View Post60 - 65 will the speed when its ridden at 4000 and 5000 rpm on 6th gear.
