  • Re: KTM 200 Duke

I drive around 40Kms a day(Up,Down) with pillion(Weighing around 50Kgs).We work together and while going to office we both carry laptop.
The issue is that the pillion seat is very small and hence its a bit uncomfortable.I am thinking of any work around available like anything that could make the pillion a bit comfortable or can be extended or some sort of panniers or anything that make the pillion seat comfortable.

Same thing happened with me. They told they will repaint the affected area on the saree guard. They just bend the upper part of the saree guard towards the tyre a little. And the problem is solved now. But sadly the aluminium part on the footpeg...a little got chipped off. They won't do anything on that.

I found out your post a couple of pages back.

Did you find the solution for fitting the Amaron battery in our Duke in terms of battery compartment mod's.

Asking it bcz i don't feel like paying Rs 2900/- for new stupid Exide battery. Please help me out.
I can't give you specifics on the battery compartment mod, but i believe its pretty simple.
If you can get hold of an amaron battery for test fitting(old or new) you can place it in the compartment and see what needs to be done. isn't rocket science..

why would they replace something under warranty for your mistake
firstly if you carry a pillion frequently, i suggest you bump up the rear suspension setting up by at least 4 positions and maintain 32 psi at the rear tire.
next, remove that saree guard if you do not have a saree clad pillion. it's useful to only tie down bugee cords.

Its at stock and 32.don't think it's my fault because there is a pillion seat and can carry pillion. This may be a faulty saree guard.I can't think of te removing saree guard.its a safety feature.
Lets see what the SVC says.thanks for your input [emoji4]

the suspension is supposed to be adjusted according to riding conditions (roads, load carrying..). so don't expect one setting (i.e. stock) to do all the work.
you should understand that this bike is setup differently than say a 100cc commuter. that is the reason they have provided it with a 10 step adjustable suspension.
you could end up with more damage if you continue loading the bike at the stock setting (which is at 3,and on the softer side.. best suited to carry say around 65kg)

                  not to 4.. get it up by 4 more (i.e. 3+4 = 7) stock is 3 IIRC.

Right. Stock is three on all Duke series. Increasing the preload means lesser rear bottoming, which equates to lesser part mating with each other i.e rear aluminum or saree guard. And either the rear sets have been brought forward or the saree guard has come forward both are not good, and this can be called a manufacturing defect. This should be brought to KTM's notice so that they can provide a workable solution.

This is the second case I am hearing after Vyshak's if my memory servers me right.

                    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                    THE END

Ya its the second case.I think he did mention it was a manufacturing defect.seems so.
I will take it to SVC and let's see what they do.
Probably the saree guard came in front.seat seems fine

has the design of the rearset or the saree guard changed recently ?
maybe you could try and 'lower' the rear mudguard (to which this crash guard is attached).. if this is possible then the saree guard will be moved a bit further away from the rear foot peg area.
I've carried a 90kg pillion a few times (not to mention i weigh just as much) with the stock setting at 3 and never had this issue.. It was only the rear mudguard and fender scraping at times, which has since vanished ever since i bumped the preload to 7 and i've also had the saree guard removed after a few months because it wasn't doing anything useful in my case.

It is not our fault. It is the fault with the design...may be in 2015 models. The aluminum part wasn't too much affected in my case. But if it is in your case, they will replace it.

And here I cannot remove the saree guard. New rule.

For me the rear mudguard or fender doesn't scrape at all.today morning again it happened.and I wasn't carrying any pillion.the footrest goes post the saree guard.may be the new saree guards are faulty.
I wi get it checked tomorrow and update

                                Hi,

Recently I have noticed that whenever I accelerate hard in 4th 5th 6th gear..like opening the throttle full and fast , the bike goes dead like fuel injection cut off in 4K ~ 9 K RPM random. Earlier it used to happen in 6th gear where the throttle would die on opening the throttle like fuel injection cut off and suddenly came back. What could be the reason ? Bike is 18K ish and service due is on next 3800 KMs

                                Thanks
