So to solve the issue they remapped all the ECUs in a very unofficial recall, calling it routine free service. The speed dropped to 132-133kmph with the 43 tooth sprocket, most of us went up in arms because of the drastic drop in top speed, though now the remap didn't allow the Rev limiter to be reached in 6th, this wasn't a speed limiter but rather a Rpm limiter. They dropped the rear sprocket by a tooth and hence we now have the 42 tooth sprockets this allowed the top speed to inch it's way back to the 135-137kmph mark.

Now again, if you ask me how I know this, 2 things, owners experience and dyno runs...
Yes I am aware of the initial lots and the remap thereafter that took a bit of its hooliganism with it.
What I said is that the duke also has some kind of speed limiter (maybe the first lots had this limit at 141/143 , the later ones at 137 kmph). This limit is probably set/controlled via the map.
Are you telling that with a bone stock ecu and a simple sprocket mod (or engine tweaking) you are able to exceed this limit ? As is evident from the video i posted earlier, the rider was well below the rev limit but the speed kept cutting out to under 137.

Yes, playing around with the sprockets will definitely get you past the speed limiter. As I said before it is a Rpm limiter and not a speed limiter.

Please read my ownership experience of the Duke 200 which I posted right after I sold it. I posted the link a few posts earlier.

Clearly shows that there is a speed limiter.
It does seem that you need to play with the electronics/wiring to bypass the speed limit. And as i mentioned earlier, this limit might have been ~141 on the initial map and later on revised to ~137
It's beyond my comprehension as to how you claim that there is no speed limiter on the D200.

As I mentioned earlier, there seems to be a minor change at the throttle end for the new 390's.

              Hello Everyone!

Time has come to change my duke's tyres, have crossed 15k with the stock MRF's and the confidence has really gone down. Do you guys think the Michelins are worth the extra cost? Or should i stick to MRF's for the new set as well? Also, can i get the tyre changed at the Tyre shop or should i be visiting the SVC for this? Please help.

              Thanks!

I think you should stick to the mrf for the front, however for the rear i think michelins is a step up.

stock is also pretty good, just not great in the wet
check if you can get the new mrf revz c1's that are supposed to be better than the current mrf revz c's , and these are cheaper than michelins.
the rear michelin is around rs.5500.
the stock mrf front seems pretty adequate for this bike.

For tire changes, if possible have the rim removed at the svc and carry it to the tire shop and go to shops that have the automated tire removal/installation machines which most car tire shops have.

Thanks for the help guys. I wasn't very happy with the MRFs even when were relatively new, hence am leaning towards getting Michelins for both front and rear. I don't know if I can actually go to the SVC and get the rim removed, cos its pretty far from my place.

Does anyone have any idea of any good tyre dealers in Pune for this? I'd rather go to a shop which has done this before, than going to someone who has no experience with dukes.

                    Thanks again!

                    • need help with duke 200 , irritating sound

i have 2 issues with my duke 200 which till date SVC hasnt helped me out with .
                      1) the chain slackness is perfect but which i push the bike around , i hear a sound a knocking sound as if the chain is touching somewhere. Whenever i have asked the SVC to check it they just tighten the chain and relube it. The sound vanishes for a week and then comes back. On an average i ride around 200kms a week.
                      2) i was riding about in my apartment complex and heard a sound coming from the rear sprocket . its like a buzzing sound. i can hear this only if i ride without the helmet ( i ride without the helmet only inside the apartment complex) . SVC said this is a normal sound and nothing to worry about.

Could experts throw some light on these issues ?

Why not go to the SVC ask them to put the bike on Paddock . Spin the wheel with upshifts and downshift to check for any abnormal noise . Buzzing sound is normal i guess but if any thing is having a friction with Chain that needs to be checked .

                        Cheers !

Firstly, the chain slack should be set correctly. Some mechs over tighten it which is bad. A little more slack is better than a tight chain.
And hopefully the alignment is correct (you need to check both sides on the swingarm such that the notches match) -read owners manual.

Now assuming both the above are right,
                          1. knocking sound - if you could post some video/audio clip, it would help. normally during riding and when you brake hard/suddenly there will be a 'Thwak' kind of sound which is normal.

                          2. buzzing sound - you mean something like Zzzzzz zzz which is more prominent as you slow down ? If so, that's also the chain and it should go away over time and if the chain is adjusted correctly. I had this while the bike was new.. after the chain adjustment at first service, it went away and is a rare occurrence.

SVC answers havent been satisfactory . i have a paddock stand and have tried this option of upshifts and downshifts. on 1st and 2nd gear i hear the sound , the chain touches the slider next to the mouth of the chain cover.

The buzzing sound is very prominent while pulling the throttle as well. This is after 15k on the odo .
