Yup, 144kmph on v9 stock map, also we have brilliant highways here... The abrupt cut off is more apparent when you don't ease off the throttle, you need to inch towards the top, takes quite a few tries to get right... Btw these speeds were recorded using the GPS on my Lumia, so I doubt the variation can be much

Thanks a lot bro . PM-ming you my email . But looking at the diagram, I don't think I will be able to do without atleast looking at this process first hand at the service center . You have all the tools for it ?

Email sent, one of my best investments was a BOSCH ratchet set and a much cheaper but just as good Taparia spanner set, I will need to invest in a good allen/hex key set but I find a good set almost near impossible to come by. Take my advice and start building your tool set, learning to fix your bike will help you understand it better.

You can adjust the chain without a paddock stand, takes some getting used to, however you can make an extremely high quality paddock stand for less than Rs.1500

            • 260 - 280kms per tank on the highway (average speed about 90-110kmph)

            Hi Pizzaboi,

Glad to hear that the baby duke can rack on so many kms and still keep running.

Could you please share your opinion on these?
            • Titax Adjustable levers - Are they good, how much adjustment can you get. What is the cost and how to procure them in Bangalore
            • Custom made high tension clutch and lifter springs - Any performance advantage over the stock ones for these?

Did you change anything else when you replaced the cam chain? cam tensioner / guide or anything else, and please do share how much it costs, and weather the ASC guys are competent to do it. I am always afraid the ASC guys, if they do not line up the cam chain properly then the valves are definitely ****ed.

I need to get my valve clearance fixed and cam chain replaced, the engine is producing a very irritating sound. Hope the chain wont jump and bend / break the valves till then.

They are brilliant, goes a long way in improving ergonomics on the bike, I have no idea where in Bangalore, they are way too expensive to buy in India, had them imported from the US, got the KTM logo laser etched as well. The levers have a six step adjuster and are CNC'd out of a single piece of billet aluminum, the only thing I can crib about is the Orange powder coat that is starting to wear off a bit after the 2 years of abuse.

              • Custom made high tension clutch and lifter springs - Any performance advantage over the stock ones for these?

Well I tend to take my bike on the track from time to time and the stock clutch is too slow for gear changes especially when you need to downshift a couple of gears to get into a tight corner, the high tension springs basically allow me to sort of quick shift, it is not a quick shift but almost the same I only need the clutch to launch after that I can go through all the gears without disengaging the clutch, this includes neutral, I only need to use the clutch again once the bike is at complete rest. The Monk rode my bike and liked it quite a bit :P The down side is an extremely heavy clutch, I was tempted to use Dhaval's hydraulic assist but I feel that will reduce the clutch feedback, also there is reduced engine braking but that in a way is good since now I have better throttle control while in a corner

Ok my first rule when I give my bike in the ASC/SVC, I only hand it over them when I can sit with them while they work, second I have only allowed one single tech to work on my bike since I have taken delivery. Do get the timing chain checked, if it breaks you will be looking at one fat bill to get it fixed, if you do not trust them, sit them till they fix it, test ride and tweak it till you feel it it performing like it should. First time they checked the valve clearance and replaced the shims, the second time they had to replace the chain, the shim replacement was done for free, the timing chain was covered under warranty, I finished 20k kms in about 6 months so they agreed to extend it to 2 years provided I let the boffins from Pune R&D to keep examining the parts for wear.

I think yours is the first bike here with some decent performance mods, most of the people focus on visual mods and 50k+ km in 2 years on the duke, man that is awesome.

One last question if you dont mind. The Titax levers are they folding type or would they break in case you take a fall. Also are these levers universal fitment, that is if I buy one off the interwebs will they fit or should I check specifically for fitment.

I wanted an adjustable lever ever since I bought the bike, I have tiny hands The clutch lever is too far out for me.

Edit: Where do you go for track days. I went to kari once, did not like the track. Kari was more like a closed off area with some bad roads.

When you go out on a track, you are bound to crash eventually and I cannot afford to keep repairing cosmetic damage, my bike has been naked for a majority of its tenure and I plan to keep it that way. Also thank you for saying that, took a lot of hard work but I am pretty satisfied with the end result. Still stock but pulls like mad. My plan is to eventually get it to perform like the 200 with the Apex Racing Coaches. Future upgrades planned are an upgrade to the 390 front disc, stiffer springs up front and a lightened crank. I tried making a custom FFE but it was a failure, the O2 sensor was messing up my fueling, bypassing it completely was a bigger disaster, never passed 21kmpl.

I bought one which was compatible with the KTM Duke 690, the part numbers were the same so it was direct fit. I personally hate the folding/extender type levers, they unnecessarily complicate a simple part, my mantra, fewer moving part, less there is to go wrong. The levers I use have breakaway points at the ends so that they don't catch in case of a crash. From what I know there are quite a few brands out there which sell levers compatible with the Duke ranging from 1k-20k, a little bit of desi jugaad will be needed to get them to fit perfect. The levers I use cost the equivalent of Rs.3700 (shipping not included and grabbed it on a 40% discount during closeout).

I wanted an adjustable lever ever since I bought the bike, I have tiny hands The clutch lever is too far out for me.

I have normal sized hands and I felt the same, it left me with a very awkward riding position, the adjustable levers was a boon to me

I go to Kari as well and if I have the money then MMSC, I agree Kari takes awhile to get used to but it is more technical and is definitely more fun on the 200, you tend to max out in Chennai, which makes you almost want a bigger biker. I am yet to break the 1:19:00 barrier at Kari and I think that just shows that I still have a lot to learn.

Also this being a textile should be difficult to wear in summers. How did it fair in the Delhi heat?

Lotsa ppl asked my why duke?!
And now I was reminiscing and found what.
I always wanted to own a naked street bike and when duke was in india I said " oh yeah! May be ! "
Then I saw this thing in a mall.listing things that attracted me rank wise
                            1) trellis frame
                            2) brass color twisty exhaust pipe

                            4) of course the exhaust note ( I dislike bikes tat make no noise )

I feel like the only best thing I've spent in my life so far is my mighty brother Duke .
