• Re: KTM 200 Duke

Hi, need some insights on tyres. My Dukes's stock tyres seems to be loosing grip now at 17000 kms. I am looking for changing them to dual purpose tyres. Going through the posts here and other places on web, many suggest Ceat Vertigo or Michelin Serac. So which one better among two? And is Michelin Serac available for Rear as well?

Did you question them as to the reason for the wear? I have a feeling the mounting was done incorrectly, only reason for the premature failure.
Hmmm. The service adviser initially said that this relative play between the hub and the wheel is usual and is there in all dukes with decent mileage. Can anyone check this Please?
He said it's indeed because of rubber bushings which need a replacement.
Funny thing is after the weekend trip to Pune/lavasa, the relative movement is back and I now think your take may be right after all. may be they goofed up the mounting.
There was no play before my last service as I wou8ld surely have noticed this while lubing. Now I had my chain sprocket replaced in my last service. I wonder if something was botched up then.
I am exasperated visiting svc so often. Damn Bajaj!!

Guys, is there any way to laminate the fuel tank and plastic area? The plastic used on the console, the mud guards are hard and rough. This makes cleaning that part a real pain. I am still learning ways to clean Bug-Lightyear but it is really really tough to do so having come from P150 which was so damn easy to clean.
I want some kinda of lamination that we do for the certificates and IDs.

17K Kms is a long distance to complete on those MRFs. Mine are 13K Kms old and are feeling very very incompetent even on slightest of wet part of the road even at 50-60Kmph. Thinking of fitting the Michelin Pilot street or another sets of MRFs and then later upgrading to something else later on after a year or so. Metzelers are way out reach of my wallet.

Don't worry too much about cleaning the bike bro.
And in the rainy season it's gonna be a real pain to keep the bike clean like showroom clean. But just make sure you do keep the chain lubed properly.
And also metal parts (bolts)which might catch rust like the ones near the rear monoshock.

But I am looking for dual purpose tyres. Not the soft compound ones.

Has anybody tried alternative clutch lever for Duke 200? Somebody please suggest any other bike's clutch lever that suites for Duke if you have tried.

Thank you.

Lol lamination.. reminds of those days when ppl used to 'laminate' their nokias
You could try 3M's Paint protection film which is essentially a thin transparent sheet. There is one 3M outlet on road no.12 banjara hills (near & opposite reliance digital)

Thanks mates for the inputs. I will talk to the 3M guys if they can do something for the Bug. Those hard plastic parts are a real pain to clean. They have so rough texture

After I posted about Lamination, I too laughed but that was the closest possible word I could think of

Knowing that 3M is a big thingy, they will surely blow a hole in my pocket. I was bankrupt when I got Bug home and was left with just 1236 INR in my account, but love triumphs money.

Lamination might be a good idea for bikes with a metal tank cover whereas the Duke has a plastic tank cover which cost roughly about a 1000 bucks. If you do get it scratched due to prolonged use and/or get them scratched from knee guards.. you can easily replace it since you do have that much money left in your account..
Mine doesn't have even a single scratch after a year of regular use..

Ok so after two yrs of owning the duke 200, I now intend to go in for an ECU upgrade... But I couldn't find a lot of comparisons between the KIIRUS one and the Powertronics piggyback... What's the difference in the performance of both? I also intend to upgrade to a free flow exhaust and a BMC air filter, so keeping that in mind, which makes more sense? The kiirus or the powertronics? Who has used these?
I believe Pizzaboi had a kiirus?

Not sure which one is better for Duke 200 but going by the detailed review from motoroids between these two products on Duke 390, the Powertronic seems a better option. I did but i had a bad experience, I'm not sure if it was a one off issue or if this is something that happens with them a lot. The remap does help quite a bit though, improved mileage and a higher top speed as well, there was a huge torque dump at 4-5k rpm which was super fun in the city.

Right now I'm back to stock and I'm instead playing around with the cams and timing.

I tried the initial piggybacks from powertornics in 2012 and felt the engine was a lot smoother on them, I have heard that they have made quite a few tweaks on them since then, a friend of mine is currently using it on his 390 and it makes a big difference especially in the city.

I use adjustable Titax levers for the both the front brake and the clutch, worth the investment. The ones sold in India are overpriced, get them imported. The levers for the Duke 690 are a direct for the 200 &390
