I am having a strange problem, some times the head lights do not come on. I have also noticed that when they come on there is a lag in the time between switching on the lights and the lights coming on.. I am not sure, I suspect the battery, but then i dont have any issue when turning the bike on, single crank the bike comes on.. This is very intermittent and I cannot reproduce it all the time. I am suspecting that there is a short or ground somewhere in the electrical wiring which is causing this issue... Friends any input will help... I am yet to go infor the 1000 km service...
Hey even I am facing the same issue. SVC guy had a conversation with KTM engineer and he said change the Headlamp Control Unit under tank on left side, but this HCU was not available with SVC. waiting for a call from SVC for the same
The mechanic at SC opened headlamp switch and sprayed some WD40, after that I have faced this headlamp issue just once.

So guys if you remember I had posted about reduced mileage few weeks back.
After the chain /sprocket replacement , the mileage has improved from the 27-28 kmplt I was getting to atleast 30kmpl now. it's been consistent over the last 5-6 tankfuls I did.
So a worn out/ loose chain has a substantial wearing on mileage. Also on performance. I noticed an immediate eagerness in the bike after the replacement.
There is some issue surely with clutch plates as I can feel the bike not lunging forward with as much ferocity. May be a replacement would help in next service.
I have had clutch plate failure in the past, it felt very same. The bike does hit 133-134 now, but with much coaxing. After 110 I feel it is struggling whereas it used to be a breeze till 120-125 ear;ier.

So guys, take care of your chain. You don't know how much bearing that thing has on the performance and mileage.

Hey just wanted to check if the control unit that is the right side switch console unit, does that have some kind of play ?? Mine has a very small amount of play and when I asked the service engineer, he said it is normal and is there on all bikes. I somehow feel there is some kind of loose contact there.... Anyways i will point this out in the first service. I have now noticed one more thing, there is a hole through which exhaust gases are leaking from the underside of the exhaust system. It is a welding defect and I will have to get that replaced...

Rohit, Dukes have a control unit for the headlamp other than the on/off and dim/bright switches, headlights are relay-driven and the HCU is connected to the ECU to make the headlight come alive when the bike rolls even when the engine is turned off.

                Hi Everyone,
This is probably my first update in 2 years since buying my Duke 200.
I have barely run 3000 kms on it, because I was still finishing my MBA from IIM Kozhikode, and now plan to riding it the way it should be.
A major reason for now using it over the two years was severe heating issue around calf muscles, which I guess is common here and more prominent in Duke 390. Hence designed and made a DYI solution for that.

Its just the first prototype, and I spent just 250 bucks for it. I'm planning on replicating it with the 3-dimensional measurements that I now have, either on fiberglass or powder-coated mild steel sheet.

                POST-SOLUTION

Engine found it little difficult initially while testing the bike, but after 10-minutes or so, it was accelerating normal again, the way its supposed to. ZERO HOT AIR BLAST ANYWHERE CLOSE TO MY LEGS. The sheet is unaffected by the heat dissipation of exhaust or radiator or the engine.

                Happy for now.

Nice work there bro.. Congrats. But I have to say that I prefer nakeds because.. well they are naked, esp the engine and chassis area. Not trying to dishearten you or anything; just informing why some of us have gone for the dukes against the japs offering.

guys..am a newbie and have a doubt regarding chain slider..last day during a ride, the footpegs started vibrating..which was absent before..i suspect its due to chain sliders..i dont know if thats the real reason..the chain was like grinding against the wall of chain slider..i will post some pics..one pic is of the chain against the chain slider..and the other one is after i adjusted the chain away from the wall of chain slider..pls advice on what is correct and what i should be doing..should i be concerned about this?

Even I had same problem. Had been to SVC thrice yet problem persisted. Finally got entire wiring changed. Thank God it was covered under warranty and save d me 9k!!
I suggest u too ask for replacement of wiring.

Maybe you'll blow off the engine gasket due to excessive heat with this. If you are comparing this with fairings, they are pretty well designed to let the hot air out very fast. You are suffocating the engine.

We've all had the radiator fan blowing the hot air towards our calves, but it's annoying only when riding in heavy traffic, where stop and go and lower gears heat up the engine and there's not enough wind flow to blow it away. I recently did a non-stop ride from Hyderabad to Bangalore, and the heat was not at all a problem throughout the ride, but just in the city traffic after I entered Bangalore. And as many folks have mentioned here, guys who chose Duke have done so because we love naked bikes and are prepared to live with the shortcomings it has. That is not to say we wouldn't try it if there's a way to mitigate this issue without taking a visual hit, without changing the naked nature of the bike.

Oh my God! There is no free air flow near the engine at all. Even the fully faired bikes will have plenty of gaps and holes on faring to vent hot air out, this is pure suffocation and you are cooking your electricals with so much heat. I'm sure the wires near the engine, the injector electricals will fail anytime soon/ melt too, worse still your bike may catch fire too
