Re: KTM 200 Duke
Can you post a video of the sound you are hearing, it can help us understand more about the issue, and get a workable solution.Originally posted by hmunjal View PostHave visited svc the guy said chain slack is ok. And if tight it then it'll put negative effect on chain life. Still sound is there

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.
THE END

I have the same problem... No svc guy has answer they just say that its chain and is ok... But its seriously the worst noise and my rc doesnt have it at all... It's a satin-finish stainless steel exhaust with no coating or plating on the metal. The irregular discoloration is due to patches of differently-stressed metal in the pipe as a result of the bending when they made the exhaust. It's not going to "rust", nor will the discoloration affect the longevity of the exhaust.
Now, if you can actually see metal flaking away from the surface (not just patches where you think metal has already peeled off), and can produce legitimate bits of metal that have fallen off, then that's a different matter. That's a metallurgical error on the part of the manufacturer and should be rectified.
its little late but i wonder if you or someone else can help me with my problem.
i tried to clean 400 km new header with ovan cleaner. result= the place i use the cleaner became silver. is there any way i can restore it? is this gold paint or something else so i can use a gold high temp spray?

try it if you can find a high temp resistant version.
otherwise just leave it as such and over time the heat will dullen the silver and almost merge with the rest of the pipe.
or else, just use that cleaner on the entire pipe and make it the same chrome silver and polish it off with brasso! (don't use brasso if you want to keep the stock golden brown, cos brasso will also make it chrome silver)

Please keep the brasso away from the header pipes... Bcz it has certain chemicals which help to clean brass only. And, our header pipes are not brass and will react with brasso. Remember this as i researched a lot before cleaning my Duke's header pipe.
Our pipes are basically Stainless Steel which has a kind of brush finish and it is golden yellow in color. So it never rusts, it's just the mud baked on the header pipe that give an impression of rust to us.
Check my previous posts #10759 & #10761 regarding this.
I used Autosol for cleaning my header pipe... World wide people use it for cleaning header pipe... Check for availability in your city. I have contacts for it in Chennai and Bangalore.
Just don't worry about the silvery chrome now.... Clean the whole pipe, preferably by removing it out of the bike. As, u can clean it much better. Once done keep riding it and you will get the golden yellow color in max 50km drive.
Also i feel that 400km cleaning is not that required..as ur bike is pretty new. I cleaned my header pipe at 18000+km that was when it was totally tarnished.
And, if you use any paint on the pipe, it will flake off bcz of the intense heat of the pipe during running. Instead you can try to get a ceramic coating. But, I doubt it's availability here in India.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
1. Brasso is a metal polish, and can be used on various other metals (copper, stainless steel etc..) apart from brass too. Especially since the header pipe is tarnished quiet a bit and brasso is a good candidate to remove such imperfectionsOriginally posted by jeshurun99 View PostHey Ivan1985,

2. Checked your earlier post http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...duke-1058.html and from what I see in your pictures and the result i have seen with brasso (used a bit on a section of my bikes header pipe), it looks the same.
After a few 100km the section which went from the golden brown to chrome silver has almost gone back to the original shade but a tad dimmer(obviously not as good as new)
And yes, doing any kind of polishing is not required at least until 15k km under normal use, and my pipe has aged gracefully (now at 19k km). I only tested the brasso on a tiny section.. maybe in future i will remove the header and polish it off completely with brasso.Last edited by s1d; 03-16-2016, 03:03 PM.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Good to know that the Brasso also gives the same results. Even Brasso was my first choice but, I didn't use it bcz my mechanic told me that the Brasso is very strong. And, he didn't want me to be the test mule for Brasso on the header pipes. Hence, he told me to be away from it. Autosol on the other hand is been used by many of the Royal Enfield owners to shine their header pipes and the aluminium engine covers.Originally posted by s1d View Post1. So, usage of Auotsol or Brasso is upto you buddy and its availability in your area.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Thanks for your answers. So originally its painted with gold . I will go for a good ride now to see if it change color.i have the header like this for 30 km but did not notice any difference in color. Its still silver. Maybe because my rides are short(10 km) and going max 70 kmh.i hope the gold return so i stop stairing at it...all i do is watching it and feel sorry :/ . its my first bike and i am not very happy with what ive done. Tried to find high temp gold but i only found silver white black and brown. And remember... Keep oven cleaner far away from your bikes
