    Hi,

What's the maximum life of tyres in Duke 200. I have clocked in 18K, but I was told that it should be changed at 15K by the service guys. Although I don't listen to them all the time, but I would like to know what's the safe time limit that tyres should be changed. ( Markers in tyres are intact. )

    Thanks

If you see the 'S-shaped' groves of front tires you will find 3 small lines within the S. It is called wear indicators. If you see the rest of the tyre thread coming in level with the 3 small lines... It means you have reached the end of life of tyre. Similarly, you will find the 3 small lines within the groves of rear tyres also.

Other option is that if you feel too much loss of grip while driving, you can change the tyres. So, it's up-to you.

20k for decent tread life, anything more and you are just asking for it. Personally I've replaced my tires lesser than what you've run, say around 15 to 17k by the time, the grip levels -- thread pattern though they seem good, and they "will" last a couple of thousand kays, it's purely a matter of personal choice whether to stick with it a little longer or go for a new one. Thumb rule is, as long a you can see treads that are not flat in conjunction to the tire, you can squeeze more kays. The flatter the treads and fine cracks starts to appear and that's a tire that's almost as useless as ones cat.

        Cheers!

        The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

So it is chain guard we have to replace for that annoying khat khat noise

              Hey all,

After 3 years of trouble free running, my duke has started giving me problems. Had a 60km long city ride on Friday night, when all of a sudden, the speedo started showing 0 constantly. After returning home, extensive search on Xbhp revealed that this is a potential stator coil problem. Went to the nearest SVC, to get the battery checked and normal voltage was around 12.9 and while running it dropped down to 12.7. Also, the first start of the day is really sluggish, but subsequent ones are perfectly fine.

Is this really a stator coil problem or is the battery dying out? Bike has run 20k kms and completed 3 years last month. Also, i've kept it bone stock, no extra additions. Please advise,

              Thanks!

Stator coil mostly if it's showing 0 on speedo when headlights r on and u r riding below 20. Eventually stator coil is a problem that will take the battery also with itself(at least in my experience).

It was showing 0 at all speeds, no fluctuations. Once, i switched off the bike while on the move, and started it again. Speedo showed some values initially, but after a few seconds it died down to 0 again.

Two things, first check if the ground wire of the battery is secured firmly to the terminal, if yes. Then it's most probably the stator in the process of giving up or it just might that your speedo sensor might have gone kaput. Now, there are every chances so make sure you get them all checked.

Thanks for that. I too initially thought that the speedo sensor had gone. But, when I took the bike out on saturday, it was working fine. Just the starter was really slow, as though the battery was very low charge.

Had a chat with my SA, he suspects it must be the stator coil only. Problem is, part is on back order and he doesnt think he's gonna get it before the end of this week. Will this discharge the battery further? I'm not wanting to use the bike until this problem gets rectified.

Faulty stators usually charge the battery at a rate less than what the battery requires, it gets worse as the bike loads up the electrical system, especially the headlights, and the fan, all draw good amperage. A good idea would to be stop riding the bike for now, since you never know when it can give up altogether.

Little more than 8k kms completed with a lot of rear braking. Rear tyre loses traction pretty often if roads aren't perfect. Should I change to Michelin/Pirelli nowbor should I wait a little more? Also, how much would it cost me to paint my tank black?

If you are driving on sandy roads you will lose grip even if our tyres are new. It's upto you to change the tyres or not.

I would not recommend painting the tank instead go for vinyl wrapping. bcz, if you change the color by painting you might get into trouble with the RTO when cops stop you for a check. If you are painting it in any other color, do get the color mentioned in your RC book then it will be all fine.

Check out for 3m vinyl wrapping.. itz pretty durable and glossy and you always have a chance to change the looks when you get bored with your current design.

Have anyone used stickers from wrapmyride here? They are half the price of what KTM offers. But I am in doubt whether to change to it as will it create any issues with the cops
