Dont make us feel worse here haha.. Cheapest Tata Nano's around 6 lakhs Indian Rupees.. tax is high, people are rich, every single commodity is more expensive than most cities in India. I was about to get a CBR 250R Tri-colour Non-ABS for 4,60,000 Nrs = 2,88,000 Irs Haha. I'd get a Ninja in India I know, I guess that's the price of getting to view the Himalaya Range while riding my Duke within the city !!

      P.S. Let's not go OT

Really nice DIY. I am also planning to do that. Can you please post the details of your DIY? Although if I can recall you had posted this before for the version 1. Is it same for version 2 also?

                    • need help

                      Hi Guys,
need some advice. Today in the early morning i had to go somewhere. (Outside temp 20+) I started the bike-it started in one go. I had to leave quickly even then i let it idle for 2-3 min till 1 bar in temp gauze became black. As i pressed the clutch to engage 1 gear(only clutch-bike was in neutral), the bike gave some khat khat sound for 1-2 second and then disapperared. I did press again but it was ok then. I did again start the bike, but nothing happened on pressing the clutch. Yesterday it had happened at same time and at same temp. Any ideas? Problem with engine or due to low temp? Any ideas will be appreciated.
Thing is that when i pressed the Clutch lever to engage the first gear( still gear was not engaged) at that time it gave sound Khat Khat Khat as some metal is striking some wall for 2-3 seconds and disappeared. There is no noise while shifting the gear but just a khat khat khat noice when i press the Clutch for first time for few seconds(when bike is started first time in day).

                        Three possibilities:

Possibly the transmission output (front sprocket) was under a little tension from the trans. Even in neutral, the whole transmission is turning, so there might have been a little load on the output. When you pulled in the clutch, it released that tension, and the chain jumped a bit. When you tried it again, the tension had already been released, so the sound didn't repeat.

The second possibility is that the clutch may have been a bit sticky when cold. Again, since the entire transmission is turning even in neutral, that includes the clutch basket and plates. Pulling in the clutch may have allowed the innermost plate to "skip" against the friction plate for a moment, or for the multiple plates to bounce against each other. As the bike warms up, the clutch slides more smoothly, so the sound is not present.

In the first two cases, do check your oil level. Low oil might account for these.

Third possibility, since the bike is new, is that the factory guy responsible for assembling clutches was lazy, and one or more bolts holding the clutch pack together is loose. This one is a little more serious. Keep track of the noise and see if it's getting worse over time. Don't let it get too bad before you get it checked. If it is a badly-assembled clutch, you'll want to get it fixed before it comes apart and destroys your transmission.

That's because there hasn't been a single genuinely-new design of bike sold in India in 20 years. All the designs here are positively ancient; no innovation, no new motors, no new frame/suspension designs, nothing. Except the Duke. Go read this thread on ADVRider about the Triumph Tiger:

                            Triumph Tiger 800 - ADVrider

Note that it's well over 800 pages now, and the bike doesn't show up for a few hundred pages, but there are extensive examples of major issues with that bike, which is also a new design.

Teething problems with new designs is common, especially with bikes, where even minor issues get magnified by the need for every system on a bike to function perfectly in order for it to be rideable. Additionally, you don't hear about the thousands of Dukes that aren't having any issues, just the few that are.

r15 was a technical magic in 2008 and it never had so many issues ..

                              • I did a 365 km ride from Jammu to Doda and back today, all hill terrain, and it gave me a mileage of around 35 kmpl. Lots of sound from the chain, some whirring sound from the front every now and then, and the rear tyre slips at the slightest hint of mud. Did't bother about the sounds, and everything else was fine(apart from my bums). There were quite a few landslide prone area, a falling stone hit my bike too, although no damage done. The road from Batote to Doda is in excellent condition with beautiful scenery all around, what a wonderful place Kashmir is. Although, photos haven't come out well, still attaching some.
