In your case probably because it was kept at high rev's constantly.

Saw something here -> How to Stop Bluing on Motorcycle Exhaust Pipes | eHow.com

As mentioned in the link try some metal polish and try to rub it out.

Thanks for the update, will try it out

yzfrj the link you sent me said that the exhaust is running too hot and i should be getting it checked... is this something I will need to be concerned about...

      Nope.

      What I mentioned was

So it would be pretty normal.
This does happen (in my experience) on bikes that are ridden hard.

and please read the posts completely before jumping to conclusions. Happened the same way with Mr. Mountain :P

      • Need urgent suggestion !!!

In a week I got two punctures to the tubeless radial of the rear wheel.
My bike is only 650kms old.

Can anyone please help about how to get rid of it ?
Do other Dukes have a weak rear tyre too ?
Is the tyre on my bike bad ? Can it be replaced under warranty ?

Please advice, since the weak rear tyre with occasional puncture is causing a serious dent in mileage whereas this bike is my commuting vehicle too !!!!

It has more to do with the fact that the rear tire has a wider contact patch now and that means a higher probability of catching stray nails and what not is on our roads. Also what type of terrain do you find yourself riding on? If you're riding on smooth paved roads instead of pot hole filled poor excuses for roads then it inevitable, otherwise the only suggestion is to go in for the puncture sealant treatment for both tires. Unfortunately your tires are a wear and tear part and so are not covered under the warranty.
Speed, it seems to me, provides the one genuinely modern pleasure.

I was talking about the link that you sent me, it said that the discoloration happens when the bike is not tuned properly... Was just wondering if this could be the case with my bike as well

Also i say this because my Rx used to run at much higher temperatures for extended periods especially on the highway and I never faced any discoloration on the pipes

I have covered over 3000kms in a little over a month over varied terrain, gravel patches, roads with heavy construction and a little bit of off roading too ( not recommended)

There have been no issues with the rear tire, in fact I love the way it lets you lean into corners, I think it was just your bad luck and nothing more, you can try to slime your tires if you keep facing the issue, personally I do not like to slime mine as a get a squishy feeling, its more of a mental thing but in your case i think it is recommended

              • Guys, there is some kind of strange sound coming from the front (cannot locate the source) but somewhere near the headlight / speedo console area. The sound is like krrr krrr and comes are around 3-4k rpm range. To help understand the sound, it sounds similar to what we hear when we spark two electrodes but with a metallic tone. It started after the recent heavy rains.
If anyone has faced this or can help me pin point would be helpful.
PS: the brake liners / disc are not making noise so that is ruled out.

                  Unlikely man.
Temperature can be high if say the engine is running rich.
Since ECU controls this in the Duke that is unlikely.

I've always seen slight discoloration in bikes that were ridden hard, including the Rx.
However my Rx does't have any.
My friend's Rx which is ported and running 2nd bore is having a slight tint on its exhaust.

Had the same issue, get your disc pads cleaned, the sound disappears after that

What was the cause of your punctures? If it's glass or nails, then i guess it's just down to bad luck.

I admit, the tyres are a soft(er) compound and theoretically more susceptible to damage from sharp objects. But, I haven't faced any more punctures on this bike compared to my previous one (ZMA).
Like others suggested, you could try a puncture sealent to prevent it.

I didn't understand how it affects your mileage. Were you riding with the punctured/underinflated tyre for long?

I have the same issue, the sound is from the fuel tank keyhole cover vibrating at certain RPM band.

                        • Planning to buy KTM

                          Guys,

I am planning to buy DUKE 200 and i am having mixed feelings after going through these 500+ pages. I am already having bad experience with my Apache RTR 160 FI and am not ready for one more bad experience.

some people here are saying that the new lots of Duke has fewer problems. it would be nice if someone who bought recently share their experiences.

Also please rate Bangalore Showroom/ Service centers.

                          Thanks much

And did the 'Filter element' is the Air filter right ? Is that supposed to be changed at the second service itself ?? Or was yours damaged/did u get it changed on your own will ??
They did not change the air filter in the first service, it should be changed every 5k. It was very dirt, not damaged. IMO you should change the engine oil every 2500kms, the company provided oil is not that good.

I have faced the same issue. The sound comes from the meter console area i guess, still not sure where its coming from, but for me it wont last long and very rarely occurs, its kinda annoying. For the paste few day it is not happening. I think she is trying to communicate in a morse code kind of way :P.

it could be front indicators lamps, tank lid key latch or at least in my case.

The city roads are in a bad state, asphalt has given away to broken gravels. In a hurry to prove its worth, the authority has started all its public construction works at one go, which leads to messy streets and maybe nails here and sharp stone chips there...............I am fed up of living here now.Especially when it is causing my new bike so much harassment.

Yup I did a couple of 100kmph+ runs before I realised dat the rear wheel is the cause of bad handling and mileage.

Now, I have plugged both punctures and continue riding, I dont know when it wud give away again

I am already looking forward to get the tyres sealant proof.

Now , I have another doubt..........can I insert sealant liquid with two plugs to mend puncture already inside the tyre ?
