  • Folks what is the maximum rpm your duke is going? Mine is not going beyond 9500 mark but everywhere the max power delivery is at 10000 rpm!
I went to svc here at khivraj motors in bangalore and one of the guy there told me that the max is 9500 only which i am skeptic about! Just wants to know what is the max limit and why the guy there is trying to make fool (if he is trying)?

hmm.. the rev limiter cuts you off at 10500rpm (but somewhere i have read that initially on the earlier bikes it was set to somewhere around 9500-10000rpm)
you need to get the ecu checked.
If you are in bangalore you should be going to

          • Hey Capnoty, I'm interested. Still haven't bought a decent helmet for my Duke, primarily because I couldn't find one which I liked in terms of design/color. Could you share the dealer details and any pictures you may have (of your helmet / other helmets you saw).

On another note, got my baby Duke serviced recently(the first service) at Dewan Bajaj's Okhla showroom.

            Servicing experience:
Pleasant. Was attended to nicely by the gentleman there. Not sure if all the checks were carried out which are mentioned on the back of the servicing coupon but an overall good experience. Also, they use Motul 7100 oil. Some pictures of the servicing attached. One query though: The guy forgot to reset the service meter so now every time I start the bike, it says 'Service not reset'. Anyone have an idea how I can reset it? Click image for larger version

            Bike's performance after the service:
Have only ridden it for a 1000kms but feels slightly smoother. However, the main reason to jump for joy is lifting the limitations of the run-in period and the revelation that comes about with it, 'Oh, this is what life feels like beyond 7500rpm!'. Fun, fun, fun.

                        • The khat khat sound coming from the front wheel which I had reported had been taken care of came back. The mech on investigation found out that the 'connector rod'(i forgot the actual name) which forms the axis of the wheel, on which the wheel rotates had worn out by as much as 2.5 cm. All because of the shoddy wheel job done by the mech when he fixed the fork oil seal. It was replaced. Should have been in warranty but since the engineer couldn't be contacted and I was in a hurry I offered to pay the price and as a reult the labour charge(Total Rs 220 something). The front is fine now.
Got the 2nd service done with. No airfilter in stock so would have to go for that on this weekend I guess. The chain even after lubing well is making constant noises. I guess the chain should be tightened more. IT is crashing against the swingarm all the time. Annoying really!
Of late I have been a bit disappointed with the service I have been receiving in the last few instances.

                          • First service done @900kms.
Bike is still awesome with no niggles....Its running fine. Although i tried running past 5000rpm mark now and finally got to witness the nice power at the high rpm band. The ride feels great now. Still ill keep low on rpms.
Few things im confused with though.
                            1) Fuel in tank needs to be optimum to keep the pump wet and cool. I read it earlier in the thread. I use to keep fuel min at reserve and then refill.
SVC guy told to keep at least 3-4litres of fuel.
Upto how mu h extent is this true?? Anything mentioned in mannual about this.??
2)what are necessary lubes required for chain lubing in order to keep the chain lubed and repair free. And how to use them?
                            thanks.

You've been going through quite alot lately, feel bad that KTM guys at your SVC cant maintain proper high quality workmanship. Are there any other SVCs in your area?

Bro, I usually fill up fuel whenever i get the Low Fuel warning. Riding with low fuel warning for few kms is not a problem, but get if re-filled (dont know exactly how much fuel is there in reserve but a rough estimate is around 2.5 litres)

As for the chain lubing, the one provided by the ASC (OKS) is good, but i noticed that it is more greasy and accumulates more dirt as compared to Motul. I am using motul and it tends to keep the chain drier, which does not gather too much dirt. I had to frequently lube it during the rains though.
