  • Will fitting a k&n air filter on duke require changes in ECU remaps etc??
Also if one installs an akrapovic exhaust then??
carburetted engines were treated with up/downjetting...spark plug colour reading etc.
Duke being equipped with FI would surely involve some ECU changes etc. Although ppl recommend ECU alterations on such mods but a brighter picture would surely help.

No, an Air filter or Custom Exhaust wont need ECU re-mapping. Besides, the stock filter is just fine, K&N is not worth the cash and coming to Akrapovic, its a costly add-on, think wisely

You can get the ECU re-mapped by KIIRUS, the price was around 10-12k (not sure). It gives a good boost of 3BHP and removal of rev-limiter. Check their Facebook page, because i've seen them updating quite alot.

      • Has anyone had their header pipe change color??? After about an hour and a half of constantly keeping it between 110-120 kmph, the header pipe on my Duke turned blue, I thought it will go back to its normal gold when it cools down, but now its like a purplish blue... any ideas on how to get it back to the original color???

          Happens usually when engine overheats.
In your case probably because it was kept at high rev's constantly.

Saw something here -> How to Stop Bluing on Motorcycle Exhaust Pipes | eHow.com

As mentioned in the link try some metal polish and try to rub it out.

          • Hi Guys,
A quick question to you all,I have done 1400 kms on the Odo and when I go past 85 kmph there a lot of vibration from the Handle bar, tank and the foot pegs.Wanted to know if this would ease off as I clock a few more kms cause right now its bordering on the verge of being annoying .I know duke isnt exactly the epitome of refinement but I feel this is a bit too much than what I expected,Please confirm Guys.

            Regards,

I am assuming that since you are updating here, you are OK
Well Ran over three consecutive speed breakers ,after 2 could not manage as the bike landed on third with bottomed out suspension which made me superman for almost 20 mtr.I could literally see my bike flying over me and DHROOM!!... Good that my gears saved me big time.Hellmet scratched, knee guard scratched, left hand glove is torn but usable, carbon fibre wrist protection scratched, jacket almost ok only 1 mark on left elbow guard but YES gears saved me otherwise imazine all those road rash on my body. Bike damage--- left side cosmetic damage plus footrest, clutch lever, gear lever, centre lever where the forks are limited while turning that alluminium part, loosen fork, handlebar, chasis bent( did not find any but SVC said such).Total cost 13k or something out of that 8.5k paid by insurance.got the cheque on bike deliver date itself.

Funnny incident.Accident happend near Nandi hill,so was riding back to Bangalore with bent gear lever and widout footrest,4/5 th gear 80-90 comfortably. After devenahalli typical RX100 guy started PHAT PHAT PHAAAAATTTT from right side with all he could do and typical poser activity. Then crossed me and slowed,,then again came to my left side.I was like ********************%^$&^$%^#^$$$&$$&$.Then he realised that bike already crashed as I kept my leg near engine in some odd position. He was like OMG crashed bike doin 90 with so ease (Yeah bike actually feels easy on 80-90 after u ride for long 110+ to130+ ) ,He uttered "Outhaa??" which seems to me like "is it??" Donno kannada that much .

As of me I only had a slight neck pain and left hand muscle pain next day in the morning and around 2 cm square skeen peeled off from pelvic region left side (jacket scrubbed the skin there along with T).Planning to buy riding pant so that next crash dsnt peel my skin.700 bucks funky boot did its job, saved my ankle with that foam padding and all and after total 2 crash i let it go and bought another 1k funky all time shoe , temporary till i get hold onto some gd riding boot.looking for R-Jay.Sorry for posting late,Night shift pain in @$$.

Please do not hold handle bar too tightly,it multiplies the speed, breaking, and engine vibes even though its not actually.try to hold on to bike with Your knee rather than too much tightened hand on bars, check if You can bed Your knee.See if Your wrists are pumped after swarving or spirited cornering,if yes then definitely You are too tight on bars.

@mods,,new to forums so do not know how to multiquote, tried hitting "+" still nothing happend,,may be due to office net..sorry for it,,if You feel You can delete the post

Thanks for the feedback buddy,I may also need to get a decent pair of gloves to negate this problem, would changing to FS oil after 5k kms or so make things any better ?
On a lighter note :-the kick on the ba**s after 7k rpm is simply outstanding ,the bike pulls as if being pull by a black hole and that its gonna devour everything never experienced anything like this,if only it didnt behave like a vibrating dildo after 85

Hahahahahha that was very descriptive!!! The Vibes are all part and parcel of the KTM 200 DUKE that's what I Love...to feel like I'm doing 150km/h when I'm only doing 120km/h :-D
Speed, it seems to me, provides the one genuinely modern pleasure.

This is typical for stainless steel exhausts, and most riders (at least the ones here) find the coloration desirable. The more you ride it, the more dramatic the color will become, and the pipe can even develop a rainbow effect after a while.

There's nothing wrong with your exhaust, and contrary to what another poster wrote, it doesn't mean your bike is overheating.

You said "Happens usually when engine overheats", regardless of your specific response to that poster. I wasn't just replying to that poster either. The info on this board is read by many, and someone else might panic and think that their bike was overheating, and they would be wrong, just as you are. Exhaust discoloration is common, particularly for bikes fitted with stainless steel exhausts, and in no way does it mean the bike is overheating. It doesn't even require that the bike run at high revs; that just accelerates the process.

Meh. Nothing in that trailer makes me interested in that bike. Honestly, I'd rather have the car they showed. The Duke will, I am certain, be able to out-handle the Ninja, though the Ninja will probably have a better top-end.

I know dude... But still it does look good. For a person (Including Me) who never rode a motorcycle more than 350, it is a good bike.

I know Duke can beat Ninja in 0-60 time because of its low weight and considerable amount of torque.
