Regarding "The digital console shows warning light just after a water wash "

It won't if the person is careful not to spray water under the headlights. The water confuses the fi sensor somewhere there. However when ridden for a few kms, the water vapourises and the light stops blinking. So no issues there

and regarding "The specification of the engine oil to be used is SAE 20W50 API SG/SL JASO MA,MA1."

Jaso MA2 is good too obviously as it exceeds these two specifications. THe oil I use(Motul 3100 4T 'technosynthese' 20W50) is JASO MA2, which incidentally is better for wet clutch usage(bikes).
    check this link.
'technosynthese' is Motul copyright for SS I think

    New JASO oil standards (MA1, MA2) - KatRiders.com

And regarding "The recommended brake fluid specification on the owners manual is DOT4 or DOT 5.1"

Dot 5.1 will be readily available once the N650 hits KTM showrooms. So owners can wait till then.

    • I have experienced reducing performance ever since the delivery of my bike. I do not get premium fuel , i rev above 7500 rpm around once every 150 kms and shift at 3000-5000 rpm normally. I uniformly increase the throttle and decelerate. The sound of the engine idling has changed slowly, it maybe the valve clearance, i guess. I have done 950 kms and the first servicing is due. Motul 7100 20W50 is not available so im gona use bajaj dtsi 10000 engine oil for around 1000 kms then ill switch to Motul.

Is bajaj Dtsi 10000 alright performance and longevity wise?

What checks, cleans, replacements will i need to supervise in the first servicing that might have affected the performance?

I have come to understand the nature of the Duke and I tend to love it more as each day passes. I'm slowly adding to my motorcycling equipment collection which now includes Acerbis Impact Gloves, CKX Dirt Helmet, Vega Googles, Spidi back protector and a Zara motorcycle jacket.

Any suggestions will be taken with the utmost appreciation.

      • i felt that bajaj oil is not good for 5000km .. engine sound goes noisy ... as per company 2nd 34d service would be on after 5000km ...

am using shell semi synthetic .. now my duke running more n more smoother nd less noisy than company oil ...

Thanks Doga, The guy who is in-charge of the waterwash for all the bikes in the ASC does a terrible job atleast hear in Chennai. They dont care if the engine is hot or not, always use a high pressure jet of water, hit the radiator area directly, use dirty soap water to clean, air blow it dry only if asked to do so.The Ninjas, pulsars and avengers all get the same treatment. So watch out guys.

Apart from the headlight section I believe water should not be sprayed directly on the seat as well as the battery and some electrical connections are right under it.

Is it ok to use a grade of oil if it exeeds the manufacturers recommendation or would it be wise to stick with what the manufacturer has specified? I agree that MA2 is better than MA1 the same applies for DOT 5.1 brake oil.Thanks.

            Just my 2cents..

Premium fuel has nothing to do with the performance.
The sound of the exhuast becomes more refined over time.
It is usually recommended to use a semi synthetic oil till 5000KM , so I guess its ok to use Bajaj oil.But you really should start looking around to get a fully synthetic oil for your second service.I have not heard many good things about the Bajaj oil.

During the first service just check if the air filter requires replacement or if it is ok to just clean it and put it back in.Also ensure that the chain tension is right. The service guy will be able to advise you on that.Apart from that the engine oil,oil filter is replaced. The coolant level and the brake fluid level should be above minimum.Top it up if required.

            • Paddock Stand for Duke

              Hi All,

I was desperately searching to get a paddock stand for my duke as its really difficult to clean the wheels and chain with only the side stand in place. Also especially during the monsoon the bike gets really muddy even on a short trip on road. I did not even consider getting one from KTM as I came to know it costs around 7-8k which I personally feel is waste.

Incidentally I came across the below link while searching for the same.

              Paddock Stand for CBR 250R, Ninja 250R, KTM Duke 200 & R15 v2 [HD] - YouTube

This person is offering a locally fabricated (Made to Order) paddock stand in Bangalore only. I had mailed this guy and he confirmed that he had initially come up with this for CBR250 however it fits Duke as well including R15, Ninja250, etc.
As per him it costs Rs.1200/- for a piece and I feel it should be worth it.

Any one here on this forum from bangalore using the same one?

Am getting "Low Oil Pressure" warning for last few days. The warning comes and goes. Yesterday checked my Engine Oil level and found that the oil level couldn't be even seen in the gauge. Although i couldn't spot any oil leak anywhere.
I am running the engine with Motul FS 7100. I had changed to Motul oil when my odo was 2700kms. Although there hasnt been any drop in performance.

Should i just top up the engine oil?
Low oil pressure message should come if you have less than required engine oil available in your engine oil compartment. Keep your bike in idle for 5 minutes and stop. Then after a minute keep the bike horizontal(not on side stand) and check the level. If it is not well above the bottom but below the top than you need a Top up.

PS :Any suggestions on how to reach the claimed top speed of 138? I have only gone till 130 and that too only once. The bike feels a bit out of breath after 115-120. Yesterday when riding solo I realised I could not twist the throttle more at 120. But yeah that was a slight incline.
Recommended rpms for initial gear shifts so as to reach the top speed? I normally shift all the gears near the redline when I am in mood to reach 125+.
                Anyone?
Getting to 138 will depend on several factors, some of which are out of your reach. Some of the factors are road smoothness, wind speed, temperature, Posture of the rider, Condition of the Bike, Weight of the rider and luggage etc. I have managed to touch 134 but not much road was left and I was not in a mood to put much effort.

From the experiences so far, it doesnt appear that Duke 200 is the best bike around. I suspect that 1-2 years down the line, the bike will be exposed and its performance will be no where near the Ninja 250R, which happens to be the first of this kind of a venture by Bajaj.
However, I hope for the best for the buyers of Duke, that they dont run into many technical problems with the bike in the future.

Isn't it too early to judge the Bike and pass these kinds of comments/judgements. Ninja had got fair amount of time to get matured.
Also, I think nobody has ever compared(even in their dream) a Duke with a Ninja price-wise or performance wise because one would get almost 3 Dukes instead of a Ninja.

I'm looking for a paddock too - the Bajaj folks told us during a customer meet that they have shortlisted two designs and should soon be offering a paddock solution for under Rs. 2000. But then this was more than 45 days ago - when they also said they were also looking at a better horn solution that would then be available as a retrofit. I'm losing patience!

The stand you referred to seems to have a drawback: It's bottom is not curved so sliding it under the swingarm and hoisting the bike may end up being a challenge.

Thanks alot I'm based in Nepal and there is no premium fuel or a Motul Outlet. Is there a site from which i can get the oil delivered here. Btw the Duke costs 3,50,000 here i.e. 2,19,000 Indian Rupees !! So u guys are lucky. I have sent a mail to bajaj customer service regarding availability of Motul 7100 here. Lets see what happens...
