Why do we feel a difference ?

They flash the ECU.. .meaning kind of re-install it

Its not required to change it so frequently. Just put in good quality oil and you are good to go.

Oil change interval: 1st at 500kms, 1000kms (1st service) and thereafter at every 5000 kms.

        Recommended Oil: Motul 7100 20w50.

I know man. May be not required. But I would recommend a mineral grade till 5000 km like I did.

I used Motul 3100 4T SS till 6000 km as there was no pure mineral available in the recommended grade 20W50

          • ECU flashed, rev limit lowered to 10,000 RPM

Originally posted by Doga View Post

I was one of the first here in Navi Mumbai who got the new 'map'. This new file/map was intended to smoothen the throttle response in the initial rpms(1000-2000). To take care of the jerky fueling in that band. You can clearly feel the difference after the 'remapping' in the lower rpms.

1)The bike doesn't stall in second gear even at slightly above 1500 rpm.
            2) The idling frequecy has gone above to around 1500 rpm from the 1200-1350 odd earlier.
            3) Take your bike out. engage the first cog. Ride while not twisting the throttle at all, the bike still trudges ahead at around 6-7 kph. Now pull the throttle(the twist should be sudden and not gradual). The way the revs build for till 2000-2500 rpm is vastly different than what it used to be before the remapping.
The rev built up is smoother and SLOWER in this range. So the bike does not leaps forward as much maniacally as it used to.
And I miss that big time. I requested the engineer at KTM svc to change the map back to what it was citing the 'neutered' response in the initial rpm range and he told me that I am the only person not happy with the new setting. and that other guys have given very good feedback like the bike pulls great at higher rpms
But I say that duke is all about surging ahead at traffic lights and not about high rpms. You have the Ninjas and CBRs for that. Good that the stalling problem is over(i never much faced it in the first place ) but the neutered response moving from standstill is a big thumbs down from me.

I want my old map please!!!

I personally had a fellow motorist drive his car bumper right into my rear wheel, fortunately the car bumper flexed and so there was no damage, also the speed this happened at was like around 3-5kmph, but it happened because the bike just suddenly decided to cut off when I tried to take off in first gear. So for me I think the new map is good. Although there are claims here that the bike does not touch the claimed 138kmph top speed anymore? Is this true? If it is then why this sacrifice just to achieve a stable idle speed and avoid engine cut off?
Indeed, the remap is something to be sad about. My bike's engine used to stall without warning. Once it would stall, it would not start willingly. When the engine would crank, it would barely idle at 500 RPM and then die again. To start it successfully I would open the throttle as soon as the engine came to life. Later, I got used to it as I could feel the engine dying when I closed the throttle and the revs went below 2000. To keep it from stalling, I'd rev it up.

Then came the flash and remap. A KTM service manager brought his DNF tool which has the software to flash the ECU, one the service centre guys do not have. After the procedure, the cold idle RPM has remain unchanged at 1500 RPM but the hot idle speed has gone up by 100 RPM from the previous 1000-1100 RPM to 1100-1200 RPM. No stalling whatsoever and idling is more steady now. Low and mid range have improved slightly but this improvement is of no use to me as I always downshift when revs fall below 5000 RPM and alway upshift at 10,000 RPM.

The top speed has now been reduced by lowering the rev limit at 10,000 RPM in 5th and 6th gears. No, I'm not mistaken. After the flash, my bike hits the rev limit hard at 117 km/h (down from 120-121 km/h) in 5th gear and at 132 km/h in 6th (down from 137 km/h). I've verified by steadily raising the revs in 5th and 6th and even by accelerating hard. I can still touch 133-134 sometimes by crouching and making the engine speed shoot past 10,000 RPM. However, it also bounces back as hard to 131 km/h. Also, revs don't touch 10,500 RPM even when oscillating at the rev limit in the top two gears. The rev limit is still at 10,500 RPM in the first four gears.

Bottom line - DO NOT GET YOUR ECU FLASHED BY KTM IF YOU WANT TO RETAIN YOUR TOP END!

Was just wondering, what fuel is everyone using these days for their Duke? The normal unleaded petrol or the unleaded petrol with additives (speed / premium etc). I was using the one with additives (here in Delhi) but it's gone up from Rs.72 to approx Rs.78 so thinking of switching to normal unleaded. So what's everyone else using?

p.s. Any Delhi Dukers going on short rides? I'd really like to go for a short day ride somewhere close, have never been. If any group is going, do let me know, would love to join!
I refuel with one part xtrapremium and one part regular at the pump in front of Hyatt hotel on the ring road. Regular fuel is also fine. It must be 91 octane because once on the NH1, I had no choice but regular and I got Rs 500 worth filled. No loss in power, no detonation or other issue.

            • 2nd service

i was out of city for two months and my bro was using the bike and i returned few days back to my place and my bike was due of 2nd service

gave it for servicing in the morning
and by eve i went to the SVC
still the work was going on , and he started the bike after oil filter change
i could smell petrol beneath the tank and chassis area
              so after some inspection
found that petrol was leaking drop by drop

then he opened the whole tank region and found that the petrol is leaking and there was lot of mud nearby that petrol pipe region

he took some snaps and mailed to KTM immediately
and after 30 mins they said to change the petrol tank assembly

then they changed the petrol tank by swapping with another new bike which was there in the SHOWROOM , as there was no ready stock and i had to wait for 15 days
              .
finally changed the FUEL Tank .

i didnt change the oil as i ran only 2500 kms and my date of 2nd servicing was almost over
              so only changed
              1) Air filter
              2) Oil FIlter
              3) Filter oil

and it costed 455 with VAt and Tax

and i also purchased the TANK Pad

Overall it was nice experience , i was happy when they were ready to change the whole fuel tank assembly without any delays

              Keep it Up KTM

Even I use this on mine..............one question though, did ur bike had top end problems ? Coz I think u highlighted it among other things, here.

                Hmm,

I also sensed fuel smell this afternoon and found leaking, not drop by drop- but a shower

Then I sensed that I had over filled while going tankfull, which made the water drain pipe shower out the excess fuel.........
And in these days of fuel price- it came as a shock and I had a tragic laugh at myself

the SVC guys re-filled my petrol to the same level which i had earlier

i hope the new bike doesn't end up with your tank - that's one reason i always stay back to watch the bike get serviced and never leave it unattended at a svc.

                    • My ECU was flashed last week. Now the e/e stalling problem has been eradicated. i Guess this problem existed in many bikes and that's why KTM
had took this initiative.Anyway thanks to KTM for solving the issue.

That's what they did to my bike. Does your bike cross 131-132 kmph in sixth gear and 117 in fifth now? If you got the same map as I did, your top speed has been reduced by 5-6 kmph.

Can you confirm this? Without endangering yourself or anyone, of course.

                              • @Darth Sid..Two days back i checked the Top speed and my bike does 135 kmph in 6th gear.Earlier also it was the same scenario and there is no change in top speed result.

I think the ECU flashing would not vary from bike to bike .They would have developed a standard pattern applicable for all bikes.
