Thanks for the adviceOriginally posted by I_Live2Ride View PostPlease visit a local puncture repairing shop..
I already consulted my local puncture shop and found a small pinhole puncture on the front. Promptly got it repaired and the bike is running fine now. On a related note, I filled up nitrogen in my tires and havent found anything substantially different till now. Will update on this a bit later.

I mean to ask, what's wrong in mounting the number on the windscreen? It is clearly visible, glows during the dark, still the police wala stopped me and charged 100/- and that to, all the documents are clear and here is the best part... initially he said he will charge me for 300/- , then I questioned him "what's wrong in this?", then he himself bargained and said "You need to pay a min of 100/- and I will give with receipt"(He was waiting for me to give at-least 50/- of bribe), then I stared at him for a while and thought of looking on which, he will be charging me on. He charged me on not having licence LOL.
I took the receipt and went to the SI, he doesn't have any valid answer except saying the letter are small and you must use the plate. :O .

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Some amount of rain water would have been accumulated on the radiator when it was idle. Also, the water that splashes from the front tyre, bangs on the radiator which is hot and this generates steam (smoke). Nothing to worry about.Originally posted by sanjana k View PostHey guys i noticed that even while warming up my bike, smoke comes out from the radiator and i get smell asif sumthings burning and all this happens even when the temperature graph shows just 2-3 bars N the smoke and smell has increased more during rains. How's the coolant level? Try to clean the Radiator. During rains most of the mud will be accumulated on the Mesh and will reduce the air intake.Originally posted by sanjana k View PostHey guys i noticed that even while warming up my bike, smoke comes out from the radiator and i get smell asif sumthings burning and all this happens even when the temperature graph shows just 2-3 bars N the smoke and smell has increased more during rains. Tough luck man. However, as to my knowledge, Traffic police can fine you for improper number plate. They have specific guidelines. If the numbers do not meet minimum font and spacing size, they can fine. Here are guidelines for Mumbai. Generally they do not catch you for plates, but if they don't have anything else on you, they will catch you for it. All the stylish numbers (fonts) can be fined too (if they think that numbers are not clear enough)
However, in you case I think the fonts are good to go but due to no number plate you can be fined. They have sepcifically mentioned "on a number plate" on their website.

Which service center do you visit? Try going to another one. I really don't think what yo are experiencing is normal.Originally posted by sanjana k View PostHey guys i noticed that even while warming up my bike, smoke comes out from the radiator and i get smell asif sumthings burning and all this happens even when the temperature graph shows just 2-3 bars N the smoke and smell has increased more during rains. Can somebody help ?Originally posted by UT09 View PostHi everyone,
I am new to this forum & hv recently bought Duke 200. I have done some 170 odd km on this bike and love every bit of it. But I just have few doubts in my mind:
1) Whats the ideal rpm level to shift up the gears on this KTM? Currently I am trying to shift between 4-5k ( Dealer has set Rev limit to 5k till first service)
2) the bike feels underpowered below 4k rpm? Is it normal or am I not pushing the bike hard enough?
eg - When I try to take the bike to 4k rpm on gear 1 & 2, it takes a hell lot of time & the engine just screams so hard as if I am overburdening it. Only at 4k engine sound changes & you feel there is still a lot of power ? Am I riding it in the wrong fashion because in this way it takes me quite a bit of time to speed up to even 50-60 kmph ? Shall I shift 1-2 & 2-3 very quickly even in lower rpm range ?
Thanks in advance. Need some serious guidance.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Its not rev limiter dude. It is set so that you shift as soon as that light blinks. With the light blinking you can still keep revving the engine till the limiter hits. I shift at around 5000 rpm when that light blinks. Waiting for running in to get over so that i can shift late at around 6500 rpm.

Here is your answer.
Because of different types of fonts used on the number plates Traffic Law Enforcement team faces a different challenge all togather. As now technology is growing, Police is also investing huge amount to get some benefits and one such tech is LPR (Licence Plate Readers). When we use different fonts and different placements of the registration numbers LPR performance degrades by huge margins. I worked very closely on such systems so I can tell you that these things can degrade the LPR performance upto 50% or you can say can render them useless. Atleast we should follow the rules as this keeps us out of Cop trouble and is our legal responsibility as well. I agree that number plate placement on sporty bikes is biggest sore point but this is what it is. New standard number plate design is also part of this scheme.|| My Doc says bhp is directly proportional to testosterone. I want more I want more .............. ||

1) shifting of gears depends on the way you want to ride, if you want to go flat out then shift close to the redline or if you want to cruise or say you ride in the city then shifting in the mid-range of the powerband is ideal. Since you are still in the running-in phase, you can shift between 5K and 7.5K rpm, in case you want to ride hard.
Also, it is a misconception that the shift rpm indicator is a rev limiter. It is provided just to assist (remind) you to shift in the ideal range of rpm. In the running-in phase since the bike should not be pushed to it's limits for the sake of the longevity of the engine, the shift RPM indicators are set at 5K and 7.5K.
The bike can go above 7.5K rpm, but seems like i will run out of breath around 9K rpm (by personal experience, not advised, stand to be corrected)
2) the engine feeling underpowered or jerky power delivery at lower rpms was present in the first lots of the bike ( mine is one of them
). But from what i hear, the newer bikes do not have that problem because they have flashed the ECU( again stand to be corrected). I think when you do more miles on the bike that problem will go away probably. If it does not then visit the SVC center.
Coming to your shifting pattern, I don't think it's wrong, everybody has their pattern. Shifting 1-2 and 2-3 in lower RPms can be done, ideal for city riding but you can shift slower if you aare riding on the highway.
After your running -in is over, you will know what exactly the duke can do

I hope it helps.
Cheers!
ride safe.Last edited by mouli_wander; 06-22-2013, 12:11 AM.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Are you sure the rev limiter is set to 5k or that's just what the dealer told you? Have you even tried to rev above 5k rpm???Originally posted by UT09 View PostHi everyone,

The red blinking light is JUST a gear shifting indicator light to help you see when is ideal to shift gears, and is completely programmable, you can look in Owner's manual.
I redlined my Duke 3km after the delivery, and finished the run in with 150 km on odo. And now, 10 months later it runs perfect, goes all the way to redline at 134 kmh in 6th gear easily and quickly.
I'm not saying you should do the same, but for heaven's sake, don't baby your bike and ride it only at low rpms, you'll just cause more damage by glazing the cylinder walls due to low rpms than if you would redline it all the time.
Don't be afraid to take it up to 7-8k rpm, which you should do for piston rings to set in. Owner's manual says to avoid running at rpms over 7000 rpm for longer time, and to avoid opening throttle fully. That's all. This bike has a good quality punchy engine, hardly needs any run in...
But to answer your question - Duke doesn't like being ridden slow, and it almost feels more stressed at 2-3k rpm in 1st and 2nd gears than at redline. It's normal. It has a screamer engine. It's a bike that needs to be ridden at higher rpms. The power boost happens above 7k rpm where it takes off and fun starts.
Enjoy it for what it is! It's NOT a Honda Unicorn...
Hehe, I shift the same but with 2 gears moved down. Where you shift to your 5th I shift to my 3rd...Originally posted by Edd View PostDont know about RPMs, but here's my shifting pattern:
Gear - Speed Range (Km/hr)
1 - 0-10
2 - 10-20
3 - 20-30
4 - 30-40
5 - 40-60
6 - 60+
I use the 6th gear only on highways when riding above 100 kmh.
I set my 1st gear shifting light to blink at 7.5k rpm, and 2nd to light at 9.5k rpm, just so I know I'm close to hitting the rev limiter.Last edited by splus; 06-22-2013, 12:16 AM.
