Google "motorcycle exhaust polish" for some ideas. One product that is mentioned frequently is "Bluejob". Also, as noted, the discoloration is caused by high heat. This is often the result of a very lean fuel mixture. It might be worth bugging the shop to see if they'll remap the fuel injector for a slightly richer mixture.
Ok you are right but the exhaust should be made to overcome this problem... we donot find other brand bikes with this problem for about a year, but here the problem is right from the date of delivery. I don't think that we should buy some paint and keep painting the bike... we all speak that its a world class brand but these kind of problems make it a china one

              • Got my Duke-Need clarifications

Hi all, I got my Duke on April 15th in Chennai. Its a blast and I have drive 500+kms since. After I picked it up I went to 3 petrol bunks to look for premium petrol. Those guys working there dropped everything and came around my bike asking about it. Made me look cool . I drove my dad's Super Splendor for 3 years. Although I am a good rider, this is my first bike and I have a few serious doubts.
                1. The service station guy said ONLY to use premium petrol. The manual says RON 91 is ok. So why should'nt I just use normal pertol ? Can I atleast use it in case of emergencies(dry fuel tank and no premium petrol in sight) ?
                2. A friend said Shell is'nt worth the extra money considering Shell Unleaded is Rs.79.50perlitre. I is worth it or is other cheaper ones such as Speed, Xtrapremium, etc better ?
                3. Regarding running in, the delivery guy told me to keep it under 5000rpm(at 6th gear takes me upto 66kmph) till first service which is what I have been doing since. But, I read somewhere that the bike must be taken up to 7500rpm gradually everyday. Is that right ?
                4. I follow the concept of driving in the highest possible gear at a particular speed for maximum fuel efficiency unless I need good pickup for overtaking. I belive that is the right thing to do but I would still like to know what you guys say.
                5. During delivery they gave me a letter with the names of 3 persons who are supposedly incharge of my bike in the showroom. Do they actually follow that system. Anyone tried calling them ?

And regarding a less serious doubt, are there any female dukers around(I highly doubt it) ?

                  • Exhaust Paint Problem

Few days back i asked KTM showroom guys about the brown (rust like) dots on exhaust... they replied that its common in these bikes and they can do nothing... I dont think that this is a correct answer... If they dont come with a solution, Im trying to go to consumer forums

                    • I dont think that KTM really has interest in Indian market, because the problems like coolant water leakage, chain sound (KAT KAT) and Exhaust paint etc in the brand new bikes less than 2-5 weeks old looks very very odd. This makes the brand (KTM) very ordinary..

                      • I was at the Ghatkopar svc centre and me too raised the issue but the svc guys were also of the opinion that the exhaust pipe changes the colour after heating up.. I guess KTM guys should replace it with some other material..

Yes, you need to use only petrol having RON91 octane rating or higher, this is what we were told in the DIY session. You can use xtrapremium as an emergency alternative.

                          2. A friend said Shell is'nt worth the extra money considering Shell Unleaded is Rs.79.50perlitre. I is worth it or is other cheaper ones such as Speed, Xtrapremium, etc better ?
Shell is better - our service guys recommend it.

Yes, you can go upto 7500 rpm during the first 1000 kms, but ocassionally and gradually.

Yes. For highest fuel efficiency 65-70 kmph is the best speed. But please keep varying speeds during break in.

Yes exhaust / silencers does change after getting heated and it wont look like when you got it new any more.
But if it starts rusting early get it replaced under warranty.
FYI if you have been riding in rain too often that might lead to rusting of exhaust

Well... i got my bike last month so no chance of riding it in rains and i save my bike as much as possible on watery patches on road..

I'd avoid riding the Duke in rains.. I might buy myself an activa or something for that ..
