  • I'm just guessing here...but the reason the rear disc brake may be a bit low on the responsiveness is for our own safety, imagine having the rear disc lock up when you tap it, you'd instantly be more susceptible to a crash.

    P.S:
Does anyone know exactly what is available with the KTM showrooms in terms of POWERPARTS??? Like do they have the headlight mask or the CNC Aluminium Orange front disc reservoir cap or the orange handlebars???

Never ridden the bike at a stretch for more than 1 and 1/2 hours. So that could be the difference maker here. I am not sure what'll happen when I'll take it to trips or ride it more freely.
Anupam - touch wood. Neither has mine gone the discoloration mode! I ride fast, i ride long, i ride in traffic, i ride hard, i ride gentle.. you name it! But Auto Service has always washed my bike after it has gone cold.

And don't worry, nothing will happen!

      • How effective is Engine Ice Coolant as compared to Castrol and Motul coolant?

I found that there is a distributor in Mumbai

        Address: The Motoshop
Address: 55, Maulana Azaad road, (Duncan Road),
        Nagpada, Next to Cafe Sagar,
        Mumbai - 400 008.

The Chennai PBK guys have the Jacket, tank pads, front crash pads, Tank Sticker, Gloves and RIM stickers only. Nothing apart from that.

Hmmmm...My KTM's exhaust header pipe discoloration is very minimal at best but there are a few specs here and there...I swear if I didn't have such a critical eye I'd be much better off!!!

@Shubz I have been gioven the option of getting the chipped swing arm and Clutch cover a touch up job, OR get a swap of the same parts from a Brand New KTM that they would be getting, and according to the warranty scope and limits in the manual they say that the service center has the discretion to either repair (paint touch up) OR replace (in my case swap from another KTM) the parts damaged...Although this may be a test ride KTM that is coming in for a service at their SVC center...So I'm sure it's not an actual bike they will sell to someone!!!

But my question really is...Should I push for a brand new part itself? instead of accepting a swap from another bike? Please give me your opinion...

BTW @Shubz please please please, check exactly what POWERPARTS they are selling now in the showrooms, I'm making a trip to Singapore tomorrow and i don't wanna end up buying some powerpart from there that I could've got from Mumbai in the first place!!! Please let me know coz I've been trying all the showroom and SVC center numbers here but they were engaged most of the time...

            Thanks in advance Shubz!

What I would strongly & personally suggest is, EVERY 200 DUKE owner here on this forum and even your friends out of this forum, city wise, should go together to the service centers and show them that it's not just your bike that was an anomaly that this exhaust defect is happening to, but it's happening to every Duke out there. And while just getting the bend pipe replaced is an option, it may not be a permanent solution, so KTM has to figure this one out...Other than that the heating issue I have learnt to live with, BUT the Bike is perfect in every other aspect to me :-) ...& just coz its got a Discolored exhaust doesn't demote it to being a "China" Bike :-D
Ya discoloring has been noticed by me while taking delivery of my bike den cancelled the pcs alloted to me n asked them to give me afresh pcs. d originally allotted pcs was having other problem too: odo was showing 222Km n der was scratch on fuel tank that made me to ask them to swap my bike.....

                • Hi

                  First Post!
Had been religiously following the thread after booking the Duke on 6th of March. I must say the thread helped a lot in tolerating the waiting period of 30 days !!

I am extremely happy with the bike:
                  1. no false neutrals for me (or double tap)
                  2. no coolent leaks (had checked the level at the time of delivery, thanks to this forum)
                  3. no khat khat noise (had checked the chain for slackness, which was neways fine)
                  4. no strange spotts on the handle bar (till now!)
                  5. no discolouration of the exhaust (till now!! 700kms)
                  6. have generally got a fuel efficiency between 35-40_tank full method (city & highway)

Ofcourse there are a couple of negatives if one really wants to find some, the rider seat is a bit stiff...lack of pillion rider seat...RVMs could have been adjusted/made better...but who cares...!!
I dont feel like getting off the bike once im back to my apartments parking!
Cornering have never been soo much fun!
Once u get used to the bike, its a traffic slicer without any extra efforts!

I have not really crossed 7500rpm till now, I ride fast but not rash, i keep in mind that the throttle response should be progressive & not sudden...even then the Duke keeps u ahead of everyone at signals.
though its embossed on the engine>> ready to race....does not mean im there to race..which apparently all other riders do not understand as soon as they see me standing at signals...they would unnecessarily rev hard...redline every time...kind of funny...
The kind of response that I get when I go anywhere is awsome! Feels special!
In my office parking the security guard always insists me to park the bike right in the front row, he says (sir, dekh k achha lagta haii, meri chair k saamne hi lagaya kro!)

Though it is normal for a new bike to get heated quickly, but with Duke its even quicker, so might be an issue with Duke. I have asked the representative during the Customer meet session, but they told it's really normal and can be experienced only in Bumper to Bumper traffic. But my point is even though it can be experienced in low gears and bumper to bumper traffic, you are the one who will feel your legs getting Bar-B-Qued everytime .

And yes, the rear brake does not give you more freeplay space, but in my opinion it's not that bad. Also the braking is adequate for normal braking situations.
ya the bike gets heated quickly , i sat on pillion seat while my bro was riding and i could feel the heat
i thought it was normal as its new engine
il wait til the 1st service

                    .
and can we use motul 5100 on 1st service instead of bajaj oil ?

Really sad to see the state of that exhaust on a new bike.
If I can pitch in with my 2 cents here... I'd say that this is a form of corrosion caused by improper heat treatment. Seeing as that the corrosion is more prevalent at the bend than any other location i.e more stress, I highly doubt it has got anything to do with washing techniques which would probably result in a more uniform spread.
Discolouration is different from the pitting seen here.

I don't claim to say that this is definitely the case, but its highly probable. would love to have any other person, who is more qualified to throw more light on this..
Live to ride.. ride to forget..

Try to ride a bit more and see if the engine is getting heated up when you are maintaining a constant speed of 60 at 6th gear.. In Chennai heat, even our bikes were getting heated, however no fumes.

Motul 7100 20w50 FS ( Fully Synthetic) is the oil to use. Not sure if 5100 is 20w50 grade. Check that before using.

Cost is INR 725 per liter and you need to buy 2 ltrs as it'll hold about 1.4 ltrs. That's INR 1450.

There are different ways to Run in the bike. Do google Motoman's run in method, that'll give you an understnading of how to go about Running In the bike. Better to keep it below 7500RPM and ride at a constant speed without redlining.

I am based out of Santhome. Have you joined the FB KTM Owners group ? If not, kindly join in.

Josh - If I were you, I would NEVER agree to swap it with another bike. Some poor soul will end up with the faulty swing arm. Why is it they cannot get you a new one, its not a scratch, its a chip off. They cannot guarantee structural integrity of the part, can they?

Even if it is off a test ride bike, that bike has been molested by all and sundry - Would you be happy with a used spare?

Power parts - There are none.
Power wear - Yes. Jackets are available here. Rim tapes are available. Crash bobbins are available, Gloves are available. But they are damn expensive compared to what is available in other countries. Prime example The KTM vented jacket costs $199 in the US and costs 15000 here. YOu do the math.
