  • Guys need help-new to the forum-KTM with problems

I had got m bike on 16th March, everything was going well suddenly on 14th April ,at 545 kms as i was going to start the bike it started and went dead completely again wen i started the panel reeboted from start, still it was not strting, again i waited for 1/2 hr then it started but by pt it to first gear with the help of clutch.

I went to the service station they said it was a start problem.they rectified it and got it right, after the service the had altered the chain to normal level.

wen i was riding it i could make out that he chain was getting rubbed on the side rubber and it giving lot of vibration to the both side of the bike to the brake lever and gear lever and i could feel the viration to the gear and rear brake lever.

Secondly the chainis making lot of guzz guzzzz like sound and i can still feel the vibration.

Thirdly now the rear brake is make squeeing sound wen applied and also make sqeeqing noise wen i am getting the bike backwards.

Please help cozz the bike has done only 776 kms till now.

Start problem rectified - So has it occurred again?

Chain making rubbing noise - probably must be over tightened. May be they did it in a hurry? Can you take it back to them and have it reset with 5-7 mm play?

Brake making squealing noise is Ok as the pads are still bedding in. Relax!

        • Brake Lever play

Shubz, what does Brake lever play mean ? After the 1st service the rear brake wasn't as responsive as it was before. I felt as if I was pushing some dough mix. The bike didn't stop quickly as before, it was more like a softer stop. Took it back today and the ASC guy said Brake lever / brake play had to be adjusted. He did something to the rear brake and then asked me to drive it. It was better but not perfect however close to it cud get to what it was. So I left home. I am kind off happy with the brake, will have to ride a couple of more times to figure out if I am completely happy with it.

It means the amount of free play the lever has before it actuates the calipers. If it is more, you will feel the spongy feel. May be that was set right so now you feel better. How do you use the brakes? Predominantly front brakes and rear brakes if on gravel/uneven surfaces? or Both brakes simultaneously?

Just the rear brakes mostly and on uneven surfaces, both brakes simultaneously. When I am at a very slow speed like 10 - 20kms then I apply the front brake, I dont' put pressure on the front brake.. just a gentle squeeze... Cause once I had a bad experience on my Unicorn with the Front disc so been cautious from then on.

Before he adjusted the play the spongy feel was there however I didn't need to press it too hard (it was tighter). Now, I'll have to press a bit more, meaning the brake lever goes a couple of cms down before the brake kicks in.

I have learnt to use only the front brakes. Rear brakes rarely. Try using only the front brakes on good tarmac. Make sure you don't jam the lever (and risk front wheel lock) Just enough to slow down.

Sure, will try this method of braking. The problem with the front brake is that it's got a pretty quick response and slowing down is not it's purpose, it stops Will see how it works.

I think I liked the bike to how it was before the service. Except the heat I don't feel as good as I used to, after the service

Yep even I noticed that initially and gradually it settled down. My odo reading is about 2100 kms (but it settled way back)

During panic braking, front brake only is not advised.

And on a lighter note - you first got to slow down to stop, dont you?

What is it you don't feel good about?

I am not sure what's not good.. it doesn't feel as it used to before the service.. anyways have driven it only for about 50 kms only .. will know better once I do some more kms. Major issue is the Engine Braking which has increased after the service. I think it's got to do something with the chain. Initially when I got the bike the engine braking was high, people said it's normal. However, when I lubed the chain at 500, they adjusted the chain and the engine braking was smooth as silk. There was no jerk when I let go of the throttle. After the service it's back, I feel the jerk everytime I let go of the accelerator . Told the ASC guys today, they just didn't say anything. Will probably take it to them once I am sure about what's amiss now.

Hmm.. I know it could be difficult to express. When you say jerk, is it uneven as in a sputter? or is it too sudden kind of engine braking?

The ASC guyz usually do that in a bit hurry.

Shubz, are you sure that the sound is only because the pads are bedding in? Coz mine is still having this issue and no matter how much I try to keep the disc clean, it's always the rear disk making screeching sound.

Sudden engine braking.. it was there when I took delivery of it. My friends who rode it also said the same... guys here said it's normal as it's engine braking.. what surprised me was it disappeard completely when the chain was adjusted and lubed. Now after the 1st service it's creeped up again, I am planning for a long ride this weekend with a couple of other Dukers in Chennai. Will try to test ride their bikes and ask them to test mine, that'll give me a better picture Hoping the Chennai guys aren't held up over the weekend
