Probably it's start of the process.Originally posted by antz.bin View PostThere was one posted 2 pages back. And that one looks nothing like the one pictured.
Edit: And now it strikes me, I have seen such exhausts on RXs and Shoguns in the past!!!
Yes, high performance bikes like the RX and Shogun coupled with chorme exhausts should give similar results.
Not necessarily, there are many in the west who consider it as a nuisance.. and then there are some who consider it beautiful.Originally posted by Brat View Post^^^ Exhaust discoloration is something beautiful. This here is simply due to quality issues mate.

I'd fall in to the bucket of nuts that consider it to be good.Originally posted by payeng View PostNot necessarily, there are many in the west who consider it as a nuisance.. and then there are some who consider it beautiful.
Erm.. when it started happening to my bike, i wanted to get it replaced myself, the more i rode hard - The more appealing the colors started looking. So i kept it.Originally posted by sivigshankar View PostSo I need to get this replaced under warranty ?
I'd suggest you wait for a while before you take a call, clock a couple of thousand more kms, Unless its a bit of a bother already.______________________________________

Alright will do that then. I saw a couple of exhaust's that had the purplish tinge without any scrapping of the Chrome plating. Mine looks like someone scratched itOriginally posted by Brat View PostI'd fall in.... Sir, I dont think i have more or better but just wanted to share some of my experiences,Originally posted by L.P. View PostCouldn't finish the entire thread, any one else with more and better, please help me with some tips.
1) Getting the rubber upto a good hot temp before carving corner helps you get better angles. Usually, a gradual build up to an epic angle offers better results.
2) I have accidentally entered a few corners too hot and countered more than usual to compensate, which have been a pleasant knee drag surprise.
The first pic shows an almost even thread wear! Haven't seen too many of those.
Thats exactly what exhaust discoloration is supposed to look like. I'll see if i can post a clear pic during daytime. The pics posted earlier looks as if the chrome has peeled and withered away in certain areas.Originally posted by sivigshankar View PostAlright will do that then. Last time this kind of peeling happened to one of my bikes, the downpipe couldn't survive a single season of Chennai rains and unforgivably rusted away in the exposed areas.
Unless there are too many Dukers in here facing a similar issue, it is wiser to treat this instance as a one-off incident and have it replaced than consider it an overall build quality issue.

After reading Payeng sir's reply I can also recall that I have seen few exhaust decoloration images from west. I also admit that they are to some people kind of badges proving Bikes worth.Originally posted by sivigshankar View PostAlright will do that then. However, all those instances are from bikes having much bigger CC and Power. So is it normal for Duke also? I'm not so sure.
Your case is not a simple decoloration, rather feels like scratching and scraping the chrome. However, I'm not sure whether ASC will simply replace it as they are considering the decoloration normal. Only if you can show any other Duke with normal decoloration and compare it with yours, they may agree.___________________________________________

Having second thoughts....
Was super excited when KTM came to India and wanted to be associated with that brand. But now, having second thoughts on buying the Duke...looking at the issues faced. I am sure its all initial teething problems that happens with the best of manufacturers and would soon get sorted out. But read somewhere abt the duke 125 that before sending to mature european markets, ktm does one more round of QA. Maybe that extra round is missing with the duke 200 sold in India and so, may not be meeting those high standards. So that old bad taste in the mouth abt bajaj bikes and long term reliability issues are haunting me....

They use a mixture of kerosene and diesel I think. But may carry on with only Kerosene also. And man, it's the bitter reality that due to huge pressure they won't spend more than 5 - 10 minutes just to lube the chain.Originally posted by sivigshankar View PostNot oil they use Kerosene to clean the chain first, then spray the lube .. thats what that ASC guy told me .. however, cleaning with Kerosene wasn't done properly, he just ran that cloth while rotating the rear wheel.
When I left it to be lubed at 500kms at the ASC, the guy got it done within 5 mins and to think back I was really impressed with his speed in getting it done.. however, it didn't spray this much then...
OKS ....that's the thing they use in Chennai ASC.
So in my opinion go for a Motul chain clean + Lube and DIY at home. Also I have heard that the Kerosene is not good for the Bike.

I guess you are making a mistake by judging from the comments on this thread. Nobody yet reported any major issue with the Bike. These issues are like minor niggles and only appearing during some 2 months of riding a newly introduced bike. Maybe over the time the bike will mature. I'll strongly suggest you to be patient and if required wait a few days before deciding "Which Bike?". If still not convinced ask the owners whether they are regretting after buying this M/c. I'm quite sure that not even 10% will confirm that it's a bad deal. Also, have you ever encountered any ownership thread of any bike(or of any item theoretically) which has all rosy comments?Originally posted by sekmen80 View PostWas super excited when KTM came to India and wanted to be associated with that brand. I asked them to share those videos but somehow they forgot or didn't.Originally posted by shreeda View PostWow that sounds great! Leh aspirant Dukers would be glad to hear that! That means, the only limitation, if at all, is tank range.
But I think I'll be experiencing that scenario very soon. Though, I dare not to stop and start the bike in the middle of the water, but I'll try to ride through it. Also, if we don't let the throttle loose, I think the water won't reach the engine compartment. Just have to drain the water from the exhaust after coming out of it.

Are you sure the idle rpm is 200 - 300 rpm?Originally posted by ynike99 View PostHi,
Got duked yesterday. ............... The bike is awesome.only two problems(nothing major) so far.
1.idle rpm is not constant.changes by range of 2-300 rpm in an uneven fashion.
2.chain sound - caused by chain hitting the slider.
....................
I think it's 1100 - 1300 rpm. Also you need not worry about this as the ECU itself checks and adjusts the RPM(heard from the KTM guy during owners meet).
The chain issue is also minor problem, so a visit to the ASC for 10 minutes would definitely solve this.___________________________________________
