I have exactly the same queries with this bike. Somebody please throw some light on these questions.Originally posted by Doga View PostThanks for the answers Anupam. But the major decision influencing questions are still unanswered. Owner's please help me out. Or is the what bike section more appropriate?
Reproducing the questions.
1. How is the riding stance(upright,as it is) over long stretches?I mean say 100-200 + Kms. I have been told and have read that a slighly forward inclined position would be better suited for long distances. Please donot factor wind blast in while answering this.
2. How bad is the windblast after 80kmph. Manageable? off putting? proper riding gear would lessen it? how bad is it when compared with the CBR? am sure many owners must have ridden a CBR.
3. Does the engine feel unrefined/strained/gruff after 100-110kmph?
4. Are there considerable vibrations at those speeds? I know it's a single but I want to make sure thee vibrations are not annoying at higher speeds.
5.Can the bike do 120 all day witout a hiccup or the engine feels too hot/strained/unrefined at those speed for long stretches? This is a different point than the 3rd.

Rest all questions cant be answered by me coz running in not completed yet.u seem to be confused between duke nd cbr.Originally posted by tusharsmoily View Post1. Seating is upright and legs swept back.slightly forward position will stress out ur wrists, shoulders and back to some extent.Motorcycling heals, big time...

@inder.cool checked the prices on the phone today in Singapore,
Here's the price list if you dare:-
1)Tank LEDs>$237
2)CrashPads Front or Rear Per Pair>$66
3)Tail Tidy Kit(Not the RG one)>$479
4)Front Wave Rotor Disc(Orange)>$457
5)Orange Anodized Handle Bar>$220
6)Front Disc Brake Reservoir CNC Aluminum machined Orange color>$99
7)Rear Disc Brake Reservoir Cover Orange>$77
8)Headlight mask> $457
>>Consider that the crash pads that cost Rs.2220/- in India cost [email protected]= Rs.2798.40 So its 21% costlier than in India...so if you apply the same idea to the other parts, they aren't gonna be any cheaper in India WHEN they arrive!!! I was really upset to find out these ridiculous prices!!!
@Shubz. No don't worry bro it's not a bother :-) In fact thanks for reminding me!!! I'll try heading to the shop by Saturday to find out about the grips, I hope they're ATLEAST priced reasonably :-s
gonna check for paddock stands and even crash pads for front fork and swing arm for the KTM at the local bike stores this Saturday too!
BTW! KTM 125 Duke cost Singapore $12,000/- On Road here!!! @Rs.42.40 DO THE MATH :-oSpeed, it seems to me, provides the one genuinely modern pleasure.

My friend UK is worse than Singapore!!! Getting it custom made is easy, but we first need to find someone willing to actually put down that money to replicate the plastic parts like the headlight mask and the Knuckle guards... :-DOriginally posted by sivigshankar View PostI think UK is a better option.. or get stuff custom made in India itself...Speed, it seems to me, provides the one genuinely modern pleasure.

Engine Ice Coolant
Not a problem Bro. Since, I initiated the whole chat, I shall take the liberty to answer your question yes it is premixed. I believe you can order it online and get it shipped directly to your place. Although I have not dealt with them directly but I believe if they receive a bulk order the price will be reducedOriginally posted by sivigshankar View PostThanks for the information Shv.
Is this pre-mixed ?
I am sure there'll be lot of takers given the heat will become unbearable during Chennai Peak Summer which starts in about a week or so. I am IN, however, am based in Chennai, not sure how we can work this out.
You don't need to open the whole engine to fill it.. Just need to drain out the current coolant, need to flush out any remaining coolant using the coolant flush process mentioned in the engine ice website and then just simply fill it up with engine ice coolant.Originally posted by hunkofgals View Postmeans i need to open the whole engine thing for changing the coolant.
and is this the coolant which all were talking about , which was used in some of joel's customized bike i think an R17 of abhimanyu ?
is this the same coolant ?
Regarding the 2nd question I believe it is pretty obvious with mentioning R16, Joel and Abhimanyu31. The R170 logs posted on his thread doesnot belong to Abhimanyu but the ride belongs to another friend of mine who went ahead with stage 3 mod on his R15. Abhimanyu31 owns an R16 i.e. Stage 2 mods from Joel, Race Concepts.
I hope this clears out any confusion. Regarding ownership experience with engine ice as I have repeated earlier, one has to get in touch with Abhimanyu31 for the same as he has been the longest user of the product and swears by its performance.

Engine Oil
Hi, I have chosen to go with Motul 300V 4T Factory Line 15W50 for oil change during my first service, which is approaching soon... as per my understanding, the difference between 15W50 and 20W50 (OEM suggested) does not impact much... but 300V is technically a better oil then Motul 7100
Anybody thinks otherwise?

KTM recommended oil grade is 20W50 Scbra... so many of us have stuck with that and used 7100 .. just worried about warranty
If something goes wrong, the ASC guys shouldn't give the oil as a reason for witholding warranty ... better check with the ASC guys before you buy 300V

Not sure whether the Showroom people maintains the Coolant amount properly, but still going below MIN within 3 days is a bit abnormal. Engine ICE costs about 1300 INR for 1.8 liter whereas the default Motul one costs about 300 - 330 for 1 litre. You can topup or change the Coolant anytime. But never mix different types of Coolant. Though the RVMs are not the best in terms of usefulness, but trust me, a little adjustment of the nuts holding the RVMs will make it decent. Only angle adjust won't do.Originally posted by hunkofgals View Postwhich coolant is that
i got my duke 3 days back n coolant level is below min
i need to blast those service guys
and how much can this engine ice coolant cost's ?
can i change it now or after 1st service ?
.
.
does any one find the rear view mirrors on the duke useful ?
i think it provides least visibility
can we do anything to it?
ive tried adjusting in all the angles but no use
i can hardly see a thing in that mirror
I'm sure if this is a crack you will get this replaced or maybe repaired. And surely under warranty. I don't think anybody faced or mentioned this kind of issue yet on this thread.Originally posted by harshag26 View PostGuys,
I see some kind of crack on my fuel tank near the cap. Some 3 inch long which starts from the fuel cap..............
Has anybody faced a similar issue?
Is this covered under warranty? Can i get it replaced?
Nope; Engine Coolant is like Engine oil, you need to topup often and sometimes change too. So, noway you can save money here.Originally posted by hunkofgals View Postonly 50-100 ml , means i can use that bottle till i sell the bike
..........
I don't think most of the Duke owners have munched enough miles to answer these kind of queries. Your questions are something that a 5000 KMs ownership review post can clarify only. Even though you post it in the Which Bike section I doubt you'll get these answers soon.Originally posted by Doga View PostThanks for the answers Anupam. But the major decision influencing questions are still unanswered. Owner's please help me out. Or is the what bike section more appropriate?
...................
You won't feel any less heat after topping up the coolant. See, the thing works somehow like this - Engine crosses some threshold temperature and the radiator fan starts - coolant draws away heat from the engine to get this below the threshold level - temp comes below the cutoff and fan stops. But in any case the wind pushed by the fan will draw the heat from engine and reach your legs. Also the engine oil is never a culprit here. Not sure why the mechanic reduced the idle RPM also.Originally posted by hunkofgals View Post............... and today i went and topped the coolant to max level
and started riding
still the heat is same
its getting heated very soon so again took it to mechanic he checked engine oil level it was fine and reduced idle rpm
and bike is stopping and i need to rev hard to let go off the bike from 1st gear
Please change it to the recommended level soon.
As I have said, you'll have to wait for a couple of days, I guess.Originally posted by tusharsmoily View PostI have exactly the same queries with this bike. Somebody please throw some light on these questions.
Don't expect any bargain price from KTM. Actually me and some other owner from Kolkata are very interrested for the immobiliser thing, but the price shown in a Powerparts slide by the KTM management was around 18000(as far as I can recall)Originally posted by joshzma225 View Post@inder.cool checked the prices on the phone today in Singapore,

We were shocked!! I have a better plan now. As the KTM guyz won't allow any aftermarket ones, I'll not go for the immobiler; rather tip some local boys 10 -20 Rs to keep an eye on my bike while I'm away.

I'm sure the ASC guyz will think otherwise. From my experiences and stories heard - they love to stick to what is recommended. BTW Motul 300V is better suited for higher displacement high power bikes. For Duke even the 7100 will work absolutely fine without fail.Originally posted by scbra View PostHi, I have chosen to go with Motul 300V 4T Factory Line 15W50 for oil change during my first service, which is approaching soon... as per my understanding, the difference between 15W50 and 20W50 (OEM suggested) does not impact much... but 300V is technically a better oil then Motul 7100

Though theoritically 15WX is a substitute of 20WX but the ASC guyz surely can delay or reject your claim for warranty if they want. So, don't do that in front of them or by informing them.Originally posted by sivigshankar View PostKTM recommended oil grade is 20W50 Scbra... so many of us have stuck with that and used 7100 .. just worried about warranty

In case situation arises and you need to file claim change it to Motul and present the Bike to them.
