I'm planning to take it delivery on the day after easter. So, how do i know that they have given me the duke 2015 model(with better coolant and engine oil tank caps, handlebars etc..)?? or the older one.
There's also a test drive bike which is 2013 make. So, if i keep my bike next to the test drive one, can i spot the difference?
The chassis number (VIN) located on the right side on frame under handle bar area. The 8th character will give you the month of manufacture and the 10th character the year.
The latest model will have an extra bit of plastic fork protectors near the front forks, and the handle bar grips will be the same as the ones on the RC200.
btw, who told you about the 'better coolant, engine oil tank caps handlebar' ?? I don't think any change was done to these components. The new radiator fan structure and extra mud flaps over read monoshock was already implemented in Sep 2014Last edited by s1d; 03-20-2015, 09:33 PM.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Hey I thought no Amaron battery would fit the duke compartment. Have you checked that?Originally posted by s1d View PostWhat kind of harrowing experiences ? Anything specific to the Duke ?
A vehicle that is seldom used will cause its battery to discharge.. and repeated cycles of un-use will accelerate battery wear and eventually lead to its demise.. And if you did 'recharge' the battery (most battery shops recharge the battery in an hour or so - which is bad for the battery) then maybe the method of recharging it was not correct ( a trickle charge overnight/12hrs is normally recommended - you can read about the charging procedure on the battery warranty/manual booklet)
Now coming to replacement battery, Yeah its almost impossible (at least i haven't found a shop here in Hyderabad selling one) to get the exide 8Ah battery at local battery shops because it isn't a 'common' type and falls under the 'OEM' category (i.e. sold to motorcyle manufactuers directly). And KTM might charge a premium for this replacement battery.
Now the Amaron 9Ah battery, I have seen a few bikes at the ASC with this battery and asked the mechanic too... He has told me that it will not cause any problems. The hero always RIDES into the sunset!

The place i gave my battery for charging, trickle charged it overnight. The problems i had with exide were with my other vehicles.
Thanks for your help, I will go ahead in getting the amaron battery.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Have used Motul chain clean and chain lube can each and now currently using 3M clean and lube. IMHO 3M is better than Motul.Originally posted by Pritesh Patel View PostGuys what chain lubricant is everyone using, wil lubricating with gear oil do?
You can use SAE 90 oil to lube the chain. Remember to clean the chain before applying the lube, always use chain clean aerosol when too much of muck or dirt has accumulated if less dirt is found then jetspraying the chain with water would suffice.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
Kerosene or diesel are absolutely fine.. if you have the time and want to put in some effort and clean it up thoroughly with a brush, nothing beats them at the job and its MUCH more pocket friendly. If the bikes been to slushy mud/rains, then first just use a slow jet of water to hose it down and then clean with diesel.Originally posted by Srvn View PostRefrain from using kerosene, diesel and other stuff they may damage the O-rings on the chain. Use chain clean aerosol to be on the safer side and they work best.
And a good dab of gear oil EP/SAE 90 to lube the chain completes the task.
Aerosol cans are just a convenience. If you factor in the economics, you might as well replace your chain/sprocket kit every 8000km than spend Rs.1000 on a set of chain clean/lube that might last you say 4000 km/8 maintenance sessions ? Because a new chain sprocket kit itself costs around Rs.2000.

You have been ripped my friend.. chain slider/indicator labor charges !! wtf! and 130 for chain clean!!Originally posted by abdulsheikh007 View Postlabour costs are a bomb, please find the breakup in the attached image.

Re: KTM 200 Duke
I have was told and also remember reading somewhere on the net that kerosene or diesel would damage the o-ring. So I won't risk myself. Yes it would be greatly pocket friendly ;-)
My first sprocket kit lasted 10K only mainly because I wasn't caring adjust the slack at appropriate intervals but was cleaning and lubing it at right times. Now I'm running a rolon chain kit and adjust the slack and lube at correct intervals now it is 6.5K on it and theres hardly any wear an tear I see.
So adjusting the slack plays a very vital role alongside cleaning and lubing to have the chain in good condition with good mileage.

Nothing over there says "better coolant, engine oil tank caps handlebar"Originally posted by shravansp24 View PostI read it in motorbeam bike news
I read in another site too about the caps..
the 2015 model currently on sale already has some bits and pieces added, and has been discussed previously on this thread. Do read at least the last 50 pages to get some insight on this.
"another site" ? The internet is full of copy-paste buggers and latest 'news' , sadly most of which is just speculation and rumors.

Somewhere on the net? The 'net' is full of all kinds of stuff so don't simply stick to reading one article, a lot of people simply hit google and read the first two search results and come to a conclusion.Originally posted by Srvn View PostI have was told and also remember reading somewhere on the net that kerosene or diesel would damage the o-ring. Yes the chain cleaners and lubes in aerosol cans are good and convenient to use (they are not way superior to cleaning with diesel or lubing with some sae90 oil). Infact if you have ever seen the ktm service advice chart, it would be mentioned that you need to lube it with the sae90 oil. But remember overdoing anything (over spraying cleaner or diesel/kerosense , chain lube will not do any good either).
Periodic maintenance with a little bit of commonsense is the key. End of the day its your money and vehicle, so i leave it to your choice... but for those who want to use cheaper but equally effective alternatives, diesel for cleaning and sae90 gear oil for lubing is the way to go.
And yes, adjusting the chain slack to the correct spec is also very important.
