  • Re: KTM 200 Duke

So after my first service , I missed my second service because I was told that next service is at 5 months , they didn't told that 5 months from the date of purchase, but because they have online systems now and they can't do anything about it so I had to settle down with third service and they were saying I can have warranty issues and blah blah .

Well after this service, bike is like a rocket now , I gave them a long list of issues like power-less feeling in engine , lack of acceleration , powerless 6th gear ,
Today I tried pulling the bike in 6th gear from 60 and it reached 120 in no time . I was shocked and happy , now its like kissing 60 in 2nd gear effortlessly and all gears are amazing tight and powerful . No knocking nothing . Finally that big grin is back ; ) .

      Please let me know.
It still exists but not as bad as it were before. You should go to the SVC and report it asap.

Guys, I need your inputs on this. My D's rear disc brake is as good as a wet wood during fire. Press down the lever as much as you want and there is no response at all. Although when moving around in the garage, it does stop and work like a brake (Speeds < 5KMPH).

Is it a genetic disease or something that my D has acquired recently?

Note : I am not a fan of rear braking system and rely on engine braking and front disc. But still, it would be great to have a working rear braking system.

Nope it's not a "genetic trait", it's an "acquired trait". The rear brake is supposed to work as it's supposed to be albeit with a reduced bike, but that doesn't mean it should be hard as rock or soft as a sponge, bleed your brake system, and then see how it fares, occasionally yes this happens.

              Cheers!

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                        • Okay, I finally decided to pick the babe duke next month. Just a quick question, what is it that I need to check in the test ride and are there any problems/issues that I need to be aware of? Maybe this question is answered, but I did a search and I found different issues. Someone who's been following this thread can please make a small list of things, Maybe too much to ask, but I really need to know before I drop my 1.52 on her..

The issues I know are :

                          - Leaking Coolant
                          - Chain Slapping

Do we have any other that's regular?

                          Thanks..

                          Now, The main question,

The list of things that I need to check for in the new vehicle..?

                          - like Broken tail lamp, someone mentioned it before..

                          - Of course engine and battery, the lights and sounds..

But something that you guys found or experienced..

Mileage, well, depends on my driving I guess.. rash = low kms and sweet = more kms..

Co incidentally I too had similar problems with my tires when they were new. Had 7-8 punctures within 3 months. But then I filled the tires with nitrogen and since I haven't had a puncture in almost 7-8 months now.

Hi everyone, Have been off XBHP for a long time almost 2 years to be exact after 23K kilometers of Duke 200 ownership, I am back to share my experiences with it.

Having done a fair amount of long rides on this bike a much bigger share of city riding, I am of the opinion that you can not find a more hassle free/VFM/Dependable bike at this price point even today. The bike performs really well under every circumstance and heating has reduced significantly over the last 10K kilometers.

Doga, Anupam on wheels, Nixtrix and other duke owners who had put up a good wealth of information when the bike was new, made my decision to buy the bike more easy. It has been the best decision of my life to go with KTM. I have now moved on to the 390 and still own the 200, given my experience with both the bikes here are some of my observations that might help people who are planning to upgrade.

KTM Duke 390 is a much better package in almost every sense.Even though some minor issues that plagued the initial few batches of the 200 were rectified (like the front fork cover which protects the oil seals from the dust, which was non existent back then) and also incorporated into the Duke 390, the 200 did leave me craving for a few things. The biggest upgrade being the tyres! The Metzeler M5 Interact is just most amazing piece of rubber to have every touch the tarmac! Just the tyres will make all the difference in the world between these two bikes!

The Tyres on the 200 are just not up to the mark! They slide around like a toy being pulled by a kid, they are bad on wet surfaces.... The list goes on.. 4K+ for the MRF is totally not worth the money!

The ABS on the 390 along with the ABS provides for a much better handling than what the 200 can every provide. The grip in the rear of the 200 with the MRF tyres is just non-existent when compared to the the amount of confidence that the rear of the 390 does.

The 200 however wins in one aspect! Fuel economy in my recent ride - it returned a KMPL of 40 on an average whereas my 390 returned an average of 28(1300KMs+ride ).

If anyone is thinking about upgrading from the 200 to the 390, i would say that it is worthy of being called on upgrade!

The 390 excels in every aspect other the fuel economy. The bike feels totally planted at speeds above 110KMPH! Though the 200 is no slouch, when it comes to high speed stability the 200 is a frenzied place to be if you are travelling above 100kmph.

Now that the RC versions of both the bikes have been launched, the current duke owners have more choices to upgrade.

I have 5 PUNCTURES right now on my 200 and still dont do anything about it but pressure up every time i fuel up! I just plugged up one puncture yesterday after getting sick of the loosing pressure every day. I am also really tired of plugging up these puncture as the MRF's extremely prone to punctures!

I have a puncture kit that bought in a local auto spares shop for 200Rs which will help you a lot if you are planning on long rides.I suggest you look for an alternative by the time this tyre is out!

                                - Things like the gap between your seat and tank( some bikes have issues in assembly and hence a friend got the enter tank and seat replaced because of the odd large gap where the tank mounting screws can be seen in the gap)
                                - Check coolant levels and Brake fluid levels! (Yes i have seen bikes delivered with coolant levels at min)
                                - Check the free play on the accelerator cable (seems like the people at the dealerships don't care about it and most bikes have a lot of free play and they actually tell you that it is exactly how it is supposed to be! really loose with a lot of free play!??)
                                - Same with the chain as well (they don't seem to be bothered with unhealthy slack in the chain when delivered!) Check for too much slack .
                                - Try and push the dealership to give you freebies (insist over and over again, my friend got a free pair of new KTM sticker/graphics kit)
if not ask them to put you up with a good amount of fuel at-least.
                                - If you hear any odd noises while riding for the first few hours please inform the dealership about it and take it back/ get checked(Take it for a test ride before you take it home).

PLEASE BE A RESPONSIBLE RIDER and DON'T PULL OUT THE SIDE MIRRORS TO MAKE IT COOL as soon as you get hold of the bike.
