5100 is available in 10W40 and 15W50 grades. 10W40 is strictly a no for Duke whereas the 15W50 should perform fine(as it covers the recommended 20W50 grade). But as the Winter characteristics are different(15W in place of 20W) so we may feel something else( as per theory shouldn't be bad ). However the ASC insists to stick to the recommendation so IMO the 7100(20W50) will be a safe bet. Please note that 7100 is also available as 10W40 and 20W50 grade.

using it doesnt the 1st service doesnt void warranty na ?
The Motul 7100 is priced as 775 Rs I think. Not sure whether the ASC charge MRP or not, but in local stores it may be cheaper by some 30 to 50 Rs.
Also you can use any lube anytime and that won't void the warranty as long as the grade matches the recommended one.

Shubz, are you sure that the sound is only because the pads are bedding in? Coz mine is still having this issue and no matter how much I try to keep the disc clean, it's always the rear disk making screeching sound.
Anupam - As far as I know it is the bedding in that makes the squeal. and even if it continues, it is probably because the pads are still rubbing the disc. Now if you have worn out the pads to a great extent and the metal rubbing against the disc - it could be trouble. Whats the reading on your Odo? Get a disc brake cleaning spray (available at the service center as well)

Just 500 Kms on ODO . However, I have seen this issue in much older bikes also, but in their case it's either the dirty disk or the worn out pads. I'll check my brake pads during the 1st service and update you.

Are the Disk brake cleaners really good? I usually use clean moist cloth to clean them.

500 kms.. then you can be rest assured that your pads are good. Yes the disc brake cleaning spray is very good but since its only run 500 kms - I will request you to be a little patient at least till the first service. and then have them use the spray.

          • While attending the Customer Meet in Kolkata I have seen one interresting video of Duke shared by the KTM guys. The video was to show the underwater capability of the underbelly exhaust. In the video the bike was driven through knee deep water in folllowing fashion -
            1. In one go.
            2. After stopping and starting it midway.
            3. After keeping it idle for 30 minutes in the water.
I was glad to see that the bike never stalled. Its a kind of relief to the guyz from Kolkata(Due to its waterlogged streets during Monsoons).

What do you guyz think about this?

How much does a can cost? I'll get one personally. BTW(going off topic) I bought and used the Motul Chain Clean + Lube. It feels great after using this product and I am feeling the chain void of any dust for the last couple of days.

Wow that sounds great! Leh aspirant Dukers would be glad to hear that! That means, the only limitation, if at all, is tank range.

                • Hi,
Got duked yesterday. I had tried cbr, thunderbird and none of them could put a grin as wide as what happens when i ride duke.seriously hats off rajiv bajaj for bringing the brand ktm and the bike in india.
The bike is awesome.only two problems(nothing major) so far.
1.idle rpm is not constant.changes by range of 2-300 rpm in an uneven fashion.
2.chain sound - caused by chain hitting the slider.

                  Planning for following minor mods-
1.brushed aluminium clutch and brake lever.need help.are the cbr/avenger's lever a direct fit? Or anything available for duke?
2.handle grips are very poky.some soft cover is the need of the day.
Thanks to all who replied to my whatbike query especially sayank10.

To reiterate my question, is this a normal transition stage before it goes purple?

                          • ^^ To me it doesn't look like the Transition stage to go into Purple Nikhil, it seems like the process of Plating gone wrong. I mean substandard plating process on the bend pipes.

Any chance of it rusting soon?
Concerned since it is a problem in a coastal city.

Being in a Coastal City, the chances of Rusting are extremely high. Have this been brought to the notice of BAL? If not, it's high time you go, else, the process of rusting will catch up fast & will eventually hole your exhaust in due course of time.
