Thanks for your valuable inputs. Also let me know whether we get filters and exhaust pipes from KTM's powerparts in India?

Any Duke'r' riding via Airoli Brigde daily between 7.45am to 8am?

I'd definitely be one after I get my helmet after 30 May. Have been riding without one around town for small jaunts. I know it's irresponsible, but the helmet wallah says the one I want won't be available before that.

MODS : please accept my apologies for back to back posts. I know the latter didn't add any value to the discussion but the excitement does get to you

      It is a common misconception.

The entire nation has moved to Bharat Stage 3 (since 2010, i think).
Metros and some other cities across India are on Bharat Stage 4.

Octane rating for Bharat Stage 3: 91 From IOCL website

For those who have a lot of time on their hands: India's Auto Fuel Policy from GoI website

Like I said earlier, the octane rating is supposed to be 91 (most pump attendants tell you that it is 89 to be on the safer side).
But this being India, you will still have to look for a "trustworthy" pump. Especially since our bike is very sensitive to the quality of the fuel.

      • ^^ I went through the same pages, found out the octane rating here is 89-91, BP calls it Speed, and other companies call it differently, what I'm curious about is, is it COMPLETELY NECESSARY to fill Speed/91 octane rated fuel, how does the bike respond to normal fuel, the unleaded one
        Thanks

I generally mix up the fuel Top Ups (Rs 500 normal & next Rs 500 Speed).
Till date, I haven't had any problems with pick up or throttle response with normal fuel. Nor did I find any advantage of Speed.
AFAIK, there are owners who fill up only with Normal fuel & haven't had any issues either.

Also, I did a 2 months Sales Stint in BPCL & came to know about the features of these different brands.
Speed is like a detergent for engine. It gets rid of the unburnt carbon deposited in the cylinder.
BPCL claims -> "If you use using normal fuel, it would build up carbon in your cylinder & reduce its volume. Slowly you wont get the actual power & FE. Hence use Speed for cleaning up the unburnt carbon"

            • Both BS3 & BS4 octane rating is 91 irrespective of speed or normal. We cannot find leaded petrol in India, it was banned long back. Only main difference between BS3 & BS4 is sulfur content, BS3 - 150 ppm and BS4 - 50 ppm.

Only Speed97 produced by BP is having octane(RON) of min.97.. No other octane rating is available in India..

              P.S: I work for BPCL :-)

              • ^^ Couldn't thank you enough !
So according to you, which should be the ideal fuel, taking minimum requirement of 91 octane, in this case, for the Duke ?

                      why is it so ?

you must get to the top speed gradually after the run in is complete. First few times the bike will struggle till the engine can rev more freely.
Also make sure the air pressure is perfect for those speeds, under inflated tires usually result in slower performance.

That is so true. My bike was struggling a lot in the first 2 gears. After insjecting air into the tires, there was a world of improvement straightaway. don't know for other bikes, but air pressure and chain slack are very important when it comes to the duke.
I think the duke is a very sensitive bike be it fuel, air pressure, tires. I therefore will not even think of using a different grade engine oil than the recommended 20W50.
Btw guys, is there a Motul mineral version available in 20W50. I need to change my engine oil. Please help

                        • Ride On TPS

                          Hi All,

a slight OT. Thought of sharing with you all.

For all those who are keen on getting rid of the head ache of tire punctures may try installing this product Ride On TPS. I have been using this on my FZ for over 9000 kms and haven't had faced any puncture so far post installation. last week me and Abhimanyu31 went for tire shopping and alternative rear tire options for my FZ (the thread for the same can be checked here: http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...tml#post817180). While interacting with the Ride on Dealer in Mumbai, they told me that they usually sell the product for the cars but now are looking forward to sell more for motorcycles and are in the process of getting pet bottles which can be shipped across all over India based on demand.

For riders in Mumbai, may contact Ride On Dealer:+919004504000, Tejas. He would be able to guide you to the closest dealer for the same.

For those who want to confirm the effectiveness of the product may check the videos below where the tires have been tested to destruction:

                          1) Ride-On Motorcycle Puncture Demonstration - YouTube
                          2) Ride-On Tire Sealant = Indestructible Tires! (almost...) - YouTube
                          3) How Ride on gel Sticks inside a tire: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=De1lI...eature=related

Cost: it was around 1200 bucks for me. However, i landed up there at the dealer's shop alone. If a bunch of riders can club together, the dealer is willing to offer decent discount on the same. Please do mention that you are from xbhp then the nos. will go down drastically!! .

                          Hope this helps,

                          Cheers,
