      • I had a problem of the front portion of the bike shaking up and down even in perfectly flat roads. The first time it happened was close to my first service so I got it fixed then. After some 50kms of service it happened again. Got it fixed today. It seems there was some bolt loose. The mechanic said it was the bolt under that big nut u can see below the console. I am taking my bike away from the city for a month. I hope the same problem dosent pop up again.

Also,I saw a brilliant Duke in the service center today. That guy painted the entire orange part, white and painted the logo on-top of it in black. It was brilliant. Is anyone here the owner? Can anyone tell me where they do that and how much it costs ?(in Chennai)

Joel / Venkat : It serves the purpose for me. I used to get depressions on the toe area before this. Now that's being avoided and this extends the length of the lever as well which makes it easier to shift. I am thinking if I should order one more for the brake lever just so that its easier to shift.

Check the following site: Shift Socks | Boot Protector | Shoe Protector | Shift Cover | Online store

Each one costs $9.95 and they ship to India at $11.95 till 5 pieces.. from 6th to10th piece it's $14.05 and more than that shipping is $24.95 ; The one I have is rubber shift sock which has be to be inserted in, they have another model which is with a zipper.. that's easier to put in Hope this helps you guys out there...

          • The bike has been doing fairly good and does indeed evoke smile on my face every now and then. The pick up, the distinct exhaust note and the looks on fellow motorist's faces make sure that happens .

There are some issues too, however.

            1) The thud/khat sound from the rear, whenever I ride over any tarmac undulations/speed breakers/ spoilers. I have yet not been able to pinpoint the exact source of this sound. Don't know what it is. The service advisor at the svc centre said it could be the rear fender hitting the rear mudguard. I am not exactly sure if that could be believed.

            2) I noticed a weird 'krrrr' sound twice yesterday, when upshifting from 5th to 6th, during a highway run. The sound disappeared quicly. Could be due to less assured shifting on my part but has anyone noticed it on their ride?

            3) There is a squeaking sound coming from the rear not along with the thud/khat(the thud is occasional though) even when minor undulations are encountered. In short on any less than good road stretches. This problem surfaced after I got my chain tightened at the svc by the service advisor as the mechanic was absent that day. When I depress the rear at standstill repeatedly, that sound doesn't come, so the shock absorber might not be the culprit here. I could be wrong though.

            4) There is a squeak sound which comes from the front when I engage the handlebars before starting the engine. Most possible source is the front disc setup. Is this the break running in and a normal sound?

Now some clarifications/suggestions which I would like to have :

            1) I want to change the engine oil. I understand that before 1000k mineral should preferably be used. Is my understanding correct? The svc stocks Motul 7100 besides the regular bajaj DTSI oil. But no mineral. Any recommendations? My ride has 500 km on the odo.

2)Please suggest a wax and polish for the duke except F1.

Btw the seawoods svc has torque wrench but no measuring caliper.

its common even after we get the chain tightened

i havent experienced this problem , but it might be due to improper shifting , try shifting properly and see if the sound persists still

i think its the tire that is squeezing to the ground and making that squeak noise
              as they are new

              u can go for motul 71000 20W50
makes the engine smooth and less engine heating

What I meant is the sound is of a constant squeak when riding even over minor road perturbations. Like that coming from aged vehicle suspensions. To check if the rear shock is giving that sound I tried to reproduce the situation by pressing the rear down to see if the suspension makes that kind of sound, but it didn't. Will take it to asc on Saturday.
Regarding engine oil, I think mineral oil should be used before 1000 kms. It helps to bed the engine properly. 7100 is FS right/
                    Thanks for your suggestions though.

Also, another question specific to Bangalore.
I got by bike delivered on 28th March. Its registered at KR Puram RTO. However I have not received the smart card yet. Can anyone tell as to how long does it take for the smart card to arrive. I was told by the showroom guys that it will be delivered by post at my residence.

                        Thanks!!
In case you are not around in home when the post came (most likely speed post), it goes back to the RTO. So take a reference number from the bike showroom (they should have one) and meet the concerned person in the RTO. Last time around when I converted my regular RC to smartcard, it never came home, I had to go and collect it personally from Indiranagar RTO.

I am also facing same issue after tightening the chain and i feel it is the chain hitting the swing arm from below as well as the plastic cover. If u dont decelerate when u go over bad patches the khat khat sound does not come.

I am also facing this issue when i move the bike forward and backward when parking, its not like the squeaking we hear normally, but a more high pitched one and i think its the disc setup, hopefully nothing serious.

Hard setting of suspension is more suitable for cornering, gives more feedback from the road, having a soft setting will not be much suitable for it. A see no reason why a suspension setting might hamper the bikes engine performance

The sound comes even at slow speeds. I'll check if maintaining speed over bad patches doesn't produce that sound.

I am also facing this issue when i move the bike forward and backward when parking, its not like the squeaking we hear normally, but a more high pitched one and i think its the disc setup, hopefully nothing serious.

Yeah the sound comes from the front disc setup definitely. I was worried initially that it's coming from the handlebar setup/cone set, but after careful investigation I am pretty sure that the sound is emanating from the front disc.

Ideally mineral oil should be used for first 1000 Kms, but as the manual suggests and recommends using either DTSi or Motul, we can stick to it

I know there is a 20W50 Motul mineral available. Motul 3000 20W50 4T. Now the thing is there is another of the same grade 1000 20W50T.Only need clarification if the latter exists and if it does, which one should I use? I'll be switching to 7100 after 100 kms. So the mineral will only be used for 500 kms..

A soft suspension would definitely hamper the handling and cornering performance. By how much and if it'll be perceptible to the average rider or during average/common riding conditions is something I can only speculate on. My guess is 'not much' . If the roads/surfaces you normally ride over are bad then switching to a soft setting might make sense. But if you have lots of sweeping corners around your place and you are a cornering junkie then probably the harder setting would make sense as a great corner exit gives unbridled joy whereas a plush ride on a straight would only avoid disappoinment. Choice is yours
