The only catch with coolant replacement is the procedure to be followed. If the proper procedure is not followed, either u ll be running bike with diluted or mixed coolant or there would be vapor locks. Make sure u know the internals of coolant circulation before u want to switch to another coolant.

I have used Motocool as well as Engine Ice Coolant on my R15. It's difficult to procure M5 here in India. Engine Ice coolant is very good in terms of keeping the engine cooler by 4-5 degrees.Originally posted by hunkofgals View Post

Engine Ice comes in a gallon of 2 litres(minimum) and with shipping would cost you around 1500. The procedure is to flush the old coolant. Than refill the reservoir and radiator with 50-50 mixture of white vinegar and distilled water. Start the engine let the coolant circulate. Flush the mixture and refill distilled water. Start the bike and let the engine warm up. Flush the distilled water and than fill the Engine Ice coolant. That's it.Originally posted by hunkofgals View Postsorry its M7 coolant not M5

Yup that's the perfect method, just don't let the mixture stay in the system for more than 15 to 20 mins..Originally posted by Juris View PostEngine Ice comes in a gallon of 2 litres(minimum) and with shipping would cost you around 1500. And if you want to avoid the pain then going to the svc centre is the best option.
The retail price in Mumbai is 1300 bucks so with shipping it will cost you approx 1500 or so. But @hunkofgals, let me tell you.. Engine Ice Coolant will not reduce the heat level drastically.. It will only give you a relief of 4-6'C.The best alarm clock is sunshine on chrome.

do the SVC guys change the coolant in the above method u specified ?Originally posted by Juris View PostEngine Ice comes in a gallon of 2 litres(minimum) and with shipping would cost you around 1500. i think they dont do it that way by using vinegar and distilled water
.
dont u think 4-6'C make any difference ?

I don't know what procedure svc guys follow but I guess they should know how to change the coolant.. (Hopefully Bajaj people have trained them for this too)Originally posted by hunkofgals View Postdo the SVC guys change the coolant in the above method u specified ?

You can always call them and check.
The bikes heats up to 90'c or so before the radiator fan starts.. 4-5'c will not make a gigantor difference..
I guess you can stick around with the coolant which is already there in the bike. Rains are about to start in couple of weeks now. Then overheating would not be such an issue. The best alarm clock is sunshine on chrome.

The SVC will not do it unless you insist. You will need to carry the vinegar and distilled water with you. 4 - 5 degrees is a substantial difference. The 4 - 5 degrees can be the difference between the fan switching on frequently or not. However, more than the 4 - 5 degrees, its the other benefits that make it even more worthwhile. Boil over of coolant is substantially reduced and after you switch off the engine, it cools down very rapidly. In addition to these is the benefit of it being a pre mix of de ionized water and coolant. This keeps your cooling system cleaner and prevents any build up that reduces cooling efficiency.Originally posted by hunkofgals View Postdo the SVC guys change the coolant in the above method u specified ?

thanks abhimanyu
for ur valuable input
.
4-5'C is considerably more only as the fan kicks out at a particular temperature so by using it the fan kicks in after some more time than usual !
.
even if i carry the vinegar and distilled water
i dont think they will use it
they do it with their own method
.
il go to the SVC and find out about it !
.
thanks guys

That's true.. It does cools down rapidly.
Changing coolant or not is completely your call bro.. I am just suggesting that rains are gonna start very soon so even your regular coolant will be good enough.
It is only the summer time when you actually need a high performance coolant.
Rest is absolutely your call.

U can use Engine Ice Coolant in October as it tends to get hot at that time too. or else do it in March 2013 when summer starts again..
Right now just stick to your stock coolant.

I am thinking to email them if the are not able to resolve the issue post first service.Originally posted by NiXTriX View PostAny response from the official KTM email id?
thats what i plan to do. the should be replacing it at first service.Originally posted by devil_rider View PostDude. Don't take any of their crap.
Tell them to replace it. And do write your response (To that i felt, in the first place you are not able to solve my problem as u dont have spares, and when in find a solution and stop it leaking you react as if i have committed a crime.) to Bajaj customer care in the e-mail. Let Bajaj top authorities also know what services are we getting..
Has anybody tried emailing bajaj (KTM) on the email given behind the Owners Manual. Do we use this email or [email protected]
