Now i drew a conclusion that it does not come on because there is no gear to shift after 6th. Has anyone noticed this ?
That is true... RPM indicators are given just for the biker to know when to change the gear.

as there is no gear after 6th, the red light just won't turn on..

i noticed this before my 1st service till 5 gears it used to blink at 7500 RPM
but in 6th it didnt used to blink so i thought we can RIP in 6th gear

When engine speed reaches RPM 1 (say 5000 rpm), the red light (shift warning light) starts flashing/blinking indicating than you should shift up before the speed reaches RPM 2(say 7500 rpm). If you still don't shift up and the engine speed reaches RPM 2, the red light lights up constantly, it doesn't flash/blink.
The bike comes with RPM 1 set at 5000 rpm and RPM 2 set at 7500rpm from the factory. So if anyone wants to follow the motoman method of running in, he should set both upwards accordingly
aftrer my 1st service he has set the RPM 1` to 10000 and RPM 2 to 10500

il try lowering it and check it

You may have ripped your engine internals apart too in the process.
There is no 7th gear so you have to be watchful of the rpm in 6th.

That is what all svcs are doing I think. It depends on individual riding style too, so set it accordingly. I personally have never crossed 7500 as the bike has not clocked 1000 km. I used to shift at around 5000 rpm till 700 kms. I let the bike go till 7000 rpm these days and then shift. The scream is so intoxicating to the ears. Its 955 on the odo and I plan to redline it after 1st service, but sparingly, till I reach somewhere around 1200-1500 kms. After that the rpm meter will kiss 10500 in each gear everytime

The rev-limiter however kicks in at 10500 even during run in.

        • I am facing a problem, as I have decided to buy the duke 200, but there is no sales/service in Jammu, where I am currently staying. Now I am planning to get my bike from delhi/gurgaon, but I am concerned about how to get the bike serviced in Jammu. The ktm sales guy told me that it is possible to get the bike serviced at a bajaj workshop, and a ktm facility will come up in Jammu in a couple of months, but he did not sound convincing. Please advice.

KTM sales guy or actually showroom employee? I would suggest that you try to contact Bajaj on this.

              • Noticed smoke smell earlier then ignored the same thinking the smell is from nearby.
              • After 10Min of ride the smell was there, checked the duke & smell was from it.
              • I let the engine to cool down, washed my bike and removed the dirt.
              • Checked coolant level it was little above min, topped up with Motul Motocool Premix Coolant (Approx 50-70ML).
              • Run the engine at neutral & checked the bike, there was smoke from radiator fins.
              What do I do?

A rear wheel misalignment might result in the chain not getting seemlessly slotted into the front sprocket teeth. No? I may be wrong as my understanding is limited when it comes to bike mechanicals.
I am afraid you are wrong mate!
When you tighten the chain you first need to loosen the wheel nut and the nut holding the sprocket then adjust the chain adjusters on either sides with respect to the reference markers on either side of the swing arm this ensures that your rear wheel is not misaligned. Adjustment is done base on the degree of slack required in the chain! And there are all possibilities of a noise coming from the front sprocket due to misaligned rear wheel. A paddock is a definite must to tighten your chain in any case wonder how the SVC does it without a paddock/center stand. Its bound to be misaligned in that case.

                • first of all check that what kind of smell it is. if it is plasticky smell then there is a great possiblity that your radiator might sucked some polythene material from air, which is now producing smell due to high temperature of radiator..

                      +1 to rx100..

Also, make sure all the required services and spares are available for KTM. Or else you are going to have a tough time in maintaining the bike.. Besides, KTM people have trained their staff for servicing the Duke and other troubleshoots.. I don't think the regular Bajaj people have that training.

                      • Hi,

I am upgrading from 100 cc world to a advanced one http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/what-bike/22713-upgrading-100cc-world.html . After going through this thread I am thinking why can't I include this in to my watch list. I love the looks. I have one issue with this though, the noise. It sounds a bit weird. How does the sound feels when you ride it? especially on long trips.. is it fun or annoying?
Its crime to ride a car alone, so I ride bike :).

Dude.. if you want a bike for a decade or more then I'd any time suggest RE C350 or C500.

Regarding KTM Duke 200 - It is one of the finest motorcycles launched in India. Superb handling, responsive engine, amazing looks... the list just goes on.

And one more point I want to add here - Many people think that Duke is an offroader.. Duke is NOT an OFF-ROAD bike.. It's a naked sports machine. So no off roading on this bike.

For long trips - Many people have been doing long distance trips on this motorcycle (Single rider on the bike/no pillion) and not many complains.

If KTM Duke 200 was a girl - it would have been completely Palang Tod

The sound is absolutely orgasmic once you cross the 6000 rpm mark . I think you might have heard the bike at a distance. Try wearing a helmet and then sit on the bike. you'll fall in love I am sure
