When you tighten the chain you first need to loosen the wheel nut and the nut holding the sprocket then adjust the chain adjusters on either sides with respect to the reference markers on either side of the swing arm this ensures that your rear wheel is not misaligned. Adjustment is done base on the degree of slack required in the chain! And there are all possibilities of a noise coming from the front sprocket due to misaligned rear wheel. A paddock is a definite must to tighten your chain in any case wonder how the SVC does it without a paddock/center stand. Its bound to be misaligned in that case.
The SVC does not use a paddock for chain tightening purposes. I agree that chain tightening and rear wheel alignment is better done on a paddock stand. I too had insisted on a paddock stand last time around, but the junior mech said, it was not required.
The manual however instructs to check the chain slack when the bike is leaning over the side stand for sure. After that, it does not explicitly mentions the requirement of a paddock or a side stand for chain tightening+alignment on the next page. The pictures too dont have the bike standing on a paddock too. But a paddock is sure more logical option for rear wheel alignment as the wheel axis would be horizontal in that case.

Any info on the finance options, if any?!
My advice, go for a personal loan if you are eligible, which I am sure you are, as the interest rates are far lower than on a bike loan. Plus you don't have to face the hassles of running to the RTO or the bank once the loan tenure is over for ownership transfer(the bike ownership is hypothecated in case of a bike loan). Bajaj fincorp rates are a bit exorbitant, but plans are flexible though.
HDFC has some good offers. If you could get a loan from a nationalized bank then better still

True mate. It's like music to the ears after 6000rpm. I got my 1st service done and on my way to office after that it let rip for the first time. And oh boy, it becomes an angry banshee after 6000 rpm.It likes to be flogged and lets the rider know it.

PS : got my first service done today morning. No oil change as it's been only 300 kms since the last oil change and no vehicle wash. Will again change the oil at around 1200-1300. Other service work was done however.Chain greasing and tightening, rear wheel alignment. The head mech was not there, so the junior mech did all the stuff and probably the reason the wheel is still not aligned properly IMO. I can see the chain when it moves, not taking a linear path. There is this slight non linearity with respect to the chain sliding guard. THe service advisor, Gopal told that wheel alignment could be measured at a car servicing station but they did not have the tool.
Will take it to svc again this weekend and let the head mech tend to it.
The staff is helpful and treat you very well but they can do with a little more professionalism. I had to remind them of using the KTM diagnostic tool to take the falt memory dump, after which they duely did the same. The tool that they use is a Bajaj branded box which has modes for 220 DTS-i Fi, the Ninja and the KTM.So no KTM exclusive memory diagnostic tool atleast here. Anyone seen them using one anywhere else?
The torque wrenches are still not being used to tighten the nuts. The wrenches have arrived, but they are still in the warehouse is what I was told by the SVC. What exactly are they still doing lying in the warehouse is something I could only surmise.

Will try to grab the meguires/autoglym/collinite polish/wax today. Any pointers where can I get them from in Mumbai? Anyone?

The common consensus is that the sound is apparently due to the chain hitting swingarm which I highly doubt is the actual reason.
I think, the sound comes from the sidestand, which springs and unsprings as the bike goes over a speed bump or a pothole. I could be wrong though.Got to test my theory somehow!

Have you guys noted one thing in KTM? The chain runs very very close to the front section of the swingarm, almost touching it!

Yup.. during 1st svc, when the mech was tightening the chain, it was so tight that it was hitting the rubber part on the swingarm.

i asked the svc mech abt that but he said "that's what the company has told them to do.."

                Pride 'duke's,

I have one question for all of you.. on the under belly silencer. The position of this looks pretty low and if you are going through water ( in rainy season in any Indian city I don't think you can avoid this) what would happen. By mere imagination it looks like water would get collected in that exhaust box. Any experiences?

There is a video of Duke's exhaust underwater test. Search it on net or this thread. It will rest the doubts

4 Different bikes, 4 different tests. Anyone can clear them. Should have used one single bike, definately would have seen the difference. Also heating of exhaust pipe and steam is not shown. But in all a good concept of new technology being used.

                          Good bike.

I saw that... but does that conclude that they used 4 different bikes? I mean, Bajaj is an Indian company & very well knows the problem of water logged Indian roads in monsoon!

                              • I want to add something interesting to the experts here.

Does it really matters if the water enters exhaust pipe? I don;t think so. To make a damage, the water has to enter into the intakes of the engine. So, from a design perspective, it's almost impossible to have water completely inside the engine as the engine is placed a bit higher than the exhaust tip. In cars too, I guess, unless the water doesn't enter the air intake, nothing to worry about! Since the ground clearance of cars are lower than that of a bike, thee may seem to have a lesser edge than bike.
