Appreciate your work !!! This one seems as a essential on our dirty roadsOriginally posted by The Mountain View PostLower fork slider protectors, like the ones in that picture, will prevent gravel/sand from collecting on the fork lowers and damaging the fork seals. USD forks are particularly vulnerable to this, and the amount of debris on Indian roads makes the problem worse. However, I would recommend using something like this:

These are neoprene tubes that fit over the joint between the fork outers and inners, and help to keep dirt and debris from getting to the seals. These came from Fox | One Industries | Sidi | Oakley | Shoei | Leatt | KTM Parts | Motocross MX and if anyone has any contact with KTM coming up, please beg and plead with them to make these available here. Here's a pic that shows these on a bike:

will find out and update if come across this.

Thanks for the input Ri$hi but even after getting upto a running speed of 17km/h the 3rd gear just wouldn't bring the bike alive, but when I tried it with 2nd it worked quicker.Originally posted by Ri$hi View PostDuring the DIY session which was conducted at the SVC, we were informed that to push start duke it needs to on a higher gear may be 3rd or 4th. Others who attended the DIY session can confirm.
All that is besides the point!!! My main concern now is to get these setbacks dealt with asap and since today is Independence day I'll have to wait till tomorrow to get someone to come fix the bike from KTM coz I am not about to push start it again!!! I didn't pay 1.4L to be trailing the bike to them everytime something goes wrong!!! In this month alone I've had My accelerator cable snap, my radiator fan malfunction and now this!!! Although the Radiator Fan was replaced under warranty I am really annoyed with the timing of all these faults!!! It's just been 5 months!!!Speed, it seems to me, provides the one genuinely modern pleasure.

Help Needed!
I've bought my Duke last month 15th in Chennai. Have clocked around 750 km on the ODO.
I'm facing problem in my Rear Brake, the rear brake has gone very weak and even on hard braking my Duke still keeps rolling. I live in Madurai and the nearest service center is around 450 Km from my place. I feel its very risky to drive my Duke to the service center.
So my question is, Is it possible for local mechanic to fix this problem at-least temporarily ?
@Duke owner: Has anyone faced this issue before?

It really sould not be an issue as most of the braking almost 70% is taken care of by the front disc brakes so go ahead and make your journey to the SVC center you'll be just fine. Yes a lot of us are finding the rear disc brake a tad on the lighter side when compared to the bite of the front disc brakes.Originally posted by adheep View PostI've bought my Duke last month 15th in Chennai. Disc pads are usually changeable from any bajaj showroom i guess, all they have to do is to remove the calipers.Originally posted by adheep View PostI've bought my Duke last month 15th in Chennai. Have clocked around 750 km on the ODO.

But one naggain question in my mind. What would you do for servicing, would you travel 450kms for every service and also if some problems creep up, which makes the ride un-useable, what would be your options ?
Just wondering.
Cheers

IS there brake fluid in the small plastic brake reservoir ? Open the cap and check.Check under bright sun light as the liquid has no colour and might play tricks with your eyes until you touch it.Originally posted by adheep View PostI've bought my Duke last month 15th in Chennai. What, AFAIK break oil is generally red in colour, and is quite visible in the Plastic Brake oil reservoir from outside.Originally posted by Bplus View PostIS there brake fluid in the small plastic brake reservoir ? DOT3 is a clear liquid, DOT4 is red in color.Originally posted by Shibadip View PostWhat, AFAIK break oil is generally red in colour, and is quite visible in the Plastic Brake oil reservoir from outside.
Check which is in your bike, both can be used. So doesnt really matter though.

Hi Krish, in Madurai KTM showroom is under construction and when I inquired the neighboring Bajaj guys, they said it'll be opened in a month or so..Originally posted by krish2778 View PostBut one naggain question in my mind. So may be I'll wait for a month and get my first service done here or will take my Duke to Chennai(450) for first service alone..

Yes that was the first thing came to my mind when I first noticed this problem, but to my surprise the Brake oil container was sealed tight and had 3/4 th of oil in it..Originally posted by Bplus View PostIS there brake fluid in the small plastic brake reservoir ? Hi Joshzma225,Originally posted by joshzma225 View PostYes a lot of us are finding the rear disc brake a tad on the lighter side when compared to the bite of the front disc brakes.
So do you mean that this is common in all the Dukes... Hmmm.. May be your right, my front disc is too sharp and because of that my rear brake feels little weak.. Lets see what the SVC guys has to say about this, I'll make a phone call first thing tomorrow morning and confirm this and post it here

Did you attempt a burnout or does the tyres look worn out ? Have you tried braking on good dry roads ? Is the tyre pressure correct ?Originally posted by adheep View PostYes that was the first thing came to my mind when I first noticed this problem, but to my surprise the Brake oil container was sealed tight and had 3/4 th of oil in it..

Check with your local Bajaj service center if they know how to adjust the rear brakes. It might just require a few tightening.Riding 450 KM and taking the risk just to find out that all you needed was a basic tool does not sound like fun.Last edited by Bplus; 08-16-2012, 12:43 AM.

Ok, then its fine, another doubt, isn't the first service due at 500kms ? now your at 750 , waiting for a month or riding 450 makes it 1k + wouldn't that be a problem ? would they provide free service ? In my area and all they wouldnt give free service if the person was just a few 20odd kms late.Originally posted by adheep View PostHi Krish, in Madurai KTM showroom is under construction and when I inquired the neighboring Bajaj guys, they said it'll be opened in a month or so..
