That is about it. The laminated registration document came in the mail in about 3 weeks time from the
Motor Vehicles Dept, the orginal insurance documents were brought to my residence by the insurance

Thanks!! Just came back from bajaj shwroom. They called to replace two bolts - the gear lever bolt and the rear break lever bolt. The reason was - in 3-4 bikes the bolt had come off due to less adhesive in them.

That makes it 1540 for Motul alone. (I was a little curious to know about Motul 300V and he said it's not exactly recommended by KTM for normal city use; is suggested for extreme weather like in Leh).

Aside: enquired at the service center about the oil leak from the air filter issue that a member had posted some weeks back. The engineer said that the space beneath the seat was stuffed with cloth & other things that were obstructing the flow of air into the air filter, which led to problems in the air intake, eventually resulting in the oil leak. Not sure if its the same bike and same issue but this is what I was told.
they shouldn't charge you for 2L of oil since the service stations normally stock bigger oil cans. here's my bill from the 1st free service ... it was less because I was carrying 1L of motul 7100 and they charged me for 400ml. otherwise it would've been around 1240. i wouldn't lose sleep over your bill though. I am told that the service stations are finding it difficult to get "enough business" because these bikes are supposedly without issues. given that, a little bump in the bill is not unusual.

funny thing, I asked chandrashekar about blackstallion's oil leak problem too ... he told me it was probably because the bike took a fall. hmmm. any word from the owner himself?

coming to my unresolved issues, yeah KTM did respond in a timely manner. chandrashekar was there too. but in the end i got the same response; "no issues with the performance". what was astonishing was that I went there with a screaming engine sprocket, so loud that i could feel the chain's friction in my foot. but he thought it was a minor issue.

anyway, i dont intend to give up till I get my bike to how it felt before the service. if there are any experienced dukers around (i live in HSR layout), i would like to get your word on this. pls pm me if possible, thanks.

      • Well, I got the bike last evening. I was billed 2litres and the remaining oil was given back to me. There was a printer issue and I couldn't get the itemized bill but they charged me for only the oil, they said, which came up to 1622 bucks (will need to collect my bill in a few days). The guys also gave me a quick demo of the diagnosis kit. It appeared to me like they're yet to understood the usage of the tool fully (not that I know much about it myself). There was lube splattered on the swing arm and they refused to clean it saying a freshly lubed chain would anyway spit out oil.

Took it for a spin and the brakes, especially the rear, had zero bite! The garage technician said that it was normal for this to happen as the bikes undergo diesel/pressure wash and that the brakes would start functioning normally after 20-30 kms. I wasn't very convinced and checked with another customer who had brought his 6000km old Duke and he confirmed this. Trying to digest this, I rode back home; didn't face any issues. The engine felt somewhat smoother but was hotter (like reported by many others here).

Took it out today evening. Turned on the ignition and the display appeared normal but then... the bike refused to start! The cranking wasn't happening and there was only a little 'tick' sound that was made when I pressed the electric start. With some nerves creeping in (I've always been an advocate of kick start and still don't like electric start; just ain't macho, mate!), I helplessly switched off the ignition and waited for a few seconds. (I could see the old ghosts of Bajaj servicing appear somewhere in the horizon). Turned the key back on again and tried to start and the engine woke up finally! The fuel indicator showed 2 bars above the 'E' mark and when I switched on the headlight, it suddenly went below E and the low fuel warning appeared! Started riding anyway and turned the light off and on again, and the mark was back to 2 bars! I'm not really sure what's happening, but I kinda sense something's loose with the battery/wiring. Rode around for about 30kms after that and didn't face any problem. I'm still a little curious about the little niggles. What could've caused this? Water from the pressure wash to be blamed? Anything that I'll need to check/clean?

        • Hey Everyone!

          Some updates from my end

So, After a long wait, Saturday came, and I was still a bit tensed as the cheque which I had given to the dealer had not been cleared yet, and being Saturday, I was not feeling very optimistic about getting my duke today. The dealer had asked me to check with him by 11:30 AM regarding the money. So, the hour arrived, I checked my bank account and the money had still not been debited from mine. Called up the dealer to confirm the same and heard from him that if it doesnt happen today, I'll have to take delivery only on monday.

Few hours passed, I was sitting in office, waiting for the message to come. Was getting so impatient that I was checking my account every 10 mins for 3 hours on the trot! As the hours were passing by, my hopes were going down and down.

At around 3:00 PM, I got the message from my bank that the money had been debited from my account! I was up in a flash, called the dealer, asked him to confirm, checked my account and confirmed it from my end. Dealer couldn't confirm from his end, but seeing my enthusiasm, he just asked me to forward my message to him as well as get a copy of my bank statement. I literally flew from office, after asking my manager of course :P

Reached the dealer around 4:30 PM, saw my bike waiting for me. I felt such a sense of elation and joy that I skipped meeting everyone and went straight to my bike and started looking at it the manager came over, we started talking about the bike, and I was inspecting all the aspects of the same.

One thing that I was a lil concerned about was the rear seat was not fitting very properly. there seemed to be a lot of play with the seat position and I checked with the other bike as well. Even though there was some play in all of them, I still felt that mine was a bit excessive. Asked the manager about it, he checked it and started adjusting the holders on the underside of the seat. He made some adjustments, but it still didnt get much better. He started giving me reasons that since i've not got the toolkit yet, it will be like this for now. Will be ok when i get the same. I made a mental note to adjust this when I get home.

So finally, after finishing all the paperwork, demonstration and other formalities, I got my keys handed over. I've been here in Pune for 5 months and not a single day has it rained. And yesterday, to my extreme displeasure, It rained!!! I cursed at the rain gods, and it got heavier and heavier. Was completely drenched on the bike and was taking it very very slowly through towards my home. Had to stop at a lot of places to clear my glasses and take a respite from the rain, but ultimately, I made it home, soaking wet, and the bike in a very dirty state. I was being really careful to avoid any potholes or muck slashing on the bike, but its just unavoidable. Will be giving it a thorough cleaning today and take it to the temple for a small puja.

          Regards

some people may recommend it, some may not. I usually clean/lube my chain after every month or depending on the state of the chain, my area can be a bit dusty so i gotta take care of my chain.

                • My new D200

                  Hi Folks,

I have just got my white Duke200. I live in bangalore and it took my close to 1.54l on road. The booking and delivery time was within a week. KTM indiranagar Bangalore are an exclusive KTM showroom unlike some of the pro biking showrooms and doing a good job. However I feel some of the sales rep there are not aware of the technicalities of the bike.
Coming to the ride, I have graduated(if I may use that word) from a 08 ZMA R to this bike and the feel is just amazing when you talk about the power delivery. What I am really puzzled about is the fuel indicator immediately going to 0 kms (Distance to empty) from a good 40-45kms in reserve. The strange part is that it will still run for a good 10kms and show no signs of stalling. I did not try to test this figure to its limit for my good. Is this normal?
PS: I have done about 500 kms on it so far and faced no issue. Before buying this bike i was hovering my eyes all over this place and team bhp to know the pros and cons. I have no chain issue, coolant leak, gear shift issues so far

Other than that, take off the plastics from side guards and rear hugger. It only causes corrosion by trapping moisture inside.

The range indicator works on the basis on number of "bars" of fuel you have left. If you have 2 bars = 60-ish, 1 bar = 30 -ish, 0 bars = 0. So, it tends to jump like that.

                            • Hello!, Fellow xBhp'ians...

Another Duker from Bangalore, My baby Duke is close to 2 and half months old, clocking just 1030 kms on the ODO.

                              Pics on my next post...

My experience with the Duke so far...

Sorry for the long post in advance

All Thanks to xBHP for helping me with making a right decision on going for the Duke. This is my very first bike, Doesn't have much of an experience of riding bikes, Was looking for a bike which has enough power not just within city traffic but also out on the Highways. I had literally made mind on the Honda CBR 150R, But when i test rode it, it felt sluggish with a pillion (But the owners in xBhp made the point very clear, that the true fire power starts to kick in only after 6/7k rpm) So was very reluctant to go with it (Knew its a performer on the highways, but not in the city traffic, i felt...) Then i came across the Duke (some called this as the hooligan, that did attract me for sure...) test rode it... Power delivery, look, exhaust sound all made me lean towards it.

Next started looking at the xBhp for owners experience...

A few pages (10-15) initially, then atleast 200 pages or so in the last, It was too exhausting, but did help a lot

                              Story with the Duke:

Delivery first week of January at Khivraj Indiranagar. Took it home (13 kms ride in traffic). Showed it to my family, Took it to a temple near by for a pooja, guys around home were staring at it like wow!! made me feel like a mini-celeb

Next day at office, showed it to my colleagues and friends, were all like, bikes too good looking but just were not liking the exhaust sound...

Daily ride is very short of just 12kms ride (6+6, to and fro office).

Read somewhere that its best to change the engine oil at around 150 kms, with all that metal shavings and tiny particles in it. Replaced it with Motul 3100 Technosynthese at 142 on ODO. Maintained speeds not exceeding 55-70 on an open road (Seldom get an open road in Bangalore) by gradually rising the speed.

One thing to make sure was not to lug the engine and keep riding at varying rpms. At around 220 kms on the ODO with new new Engine oil in, A ride to Omkar hills (40kms to and fro) I did take the bike to its max speed of 105kms with 7500rpm limit (rising the speed gradually) on the NICE road with a friend as pillion both weighing 130kgs together, just on the idea of exposing the engine to varying rpms (since i don't get to do it in the traffic)

At 260/270 kms on ODO switched to Shell petrol, and the daily routine of riding alone to office continued...

As the day of first service was closing in I had clocked just 505 kms on the ODO. On the verge of covering as much kms as possible before service, I and my friend (again both weighing 130kgs together) went to Nandi hills (130 kms to and fro), never rode for such a long distance nor experienced the happiness it brings before, with all that roads with so much twists and turns, such an un-forgettable trip it was, the speed i maintained was 65-80 kms/hr on the airport road, did a max of 92km/hr once and the FE was 45km/l on the console through out.

It was 682 on the ODO when i gave my bike for its first service. Heard a lot about Auto service Banashankari, so booked there for service on 14th Feb, Was there at 9:00AM on the day, Carried 2L's of Motul 5100 ester technosynthese along. Bike was assigned to a guy called Mahesh, I told gonna wait there and take back the bike, so bike was taken for service right away...

This was how service was performed:

Bike was washed, Engine oil was changed, Spark plug was cleaned, Chain was cleaned and lubed with 3M Lubricant, Battery terminals were tested for some values (I didn't undersdtand) and were lubed, Other bolts and screws were also lubed, Fork play was checked and adjusted, Brake discs were sprayed with cleaner, Rest of them, according to the the service procedure mentioned in the Manual (I carried a photo copy) were all performed except for Engine Diagnosis with tool kit. As the front brake was not lighting up the Tail light, Mechanic brought a small device called it brake switch and replaced with the existing one and it started working. I kept asking a lot Q's, he did answer almost all of them to my satisfaction. I insisted him (Mahesh) to perform Engine diagnosis as that was the only thing not done, But he did not do it, giving me reasons like it is performed only in case of some problems/issues (as mine had no problems till date) that i report and/or in case of issues thats displayed on the console. So i was disppointed with that (I was hoping that the diagnostic tool will remove any fault memory/data present and identify/rectify any potential errorneous/fault values in the ECU). Guy then told the servicing is done, it was then moved to be polished, It was polished by a small kid aged around 14-16 years, he did a fine job though. The supervisor named Raju took it for road worthiness and told the bikes all fine. Then i took it for a spin, only to find out (As few others had already mentioned) rear brake was literllay non-existent. I told the same but both Raju and Mahesh told that it takes 10-15 kms for it to work effectively as the brake cleaner needs some kms... Service bill was 316Rs.

Post the service rear brake is still as ineffective, bike runs a bit hotter usually one bar lower to H sign on the Temp graph even on a 25-30 mins ride on the crawling traffic. Feel FE/mileage also has taken a hit, gives 28-29 (earlier returned atleast 32-34).

Its been one month after 1st service, currently 1030 kms on ODO. Never came across any problems/issues except for occasional false neutrals (which i face nomore, Thanks for the solution guys!). Every time I ride it, it just brings a big smile, park it anywhere I still look back at it with admiration, a smile and pride and walk away.

                              Most happiest with the Duke

So the question still remains the same, what distance can i expect when it shows 0 Kms on the meter. Thanks for the info anyways
