He offered me a roadside assistance program membership, I forgot the name. He said, for 700rs, they'd offer assistance in case of any emergencies i.e. breakdowns, punctures, empty tank etc. and take the bike to a workshop within 100km radius for free. And its multiple use. Seems like a good deal. What do you guys think??
From me, it's not required. Though individual choice.
Empty tank - We can monitor, so can be avoided.(Petrol chargeable)
Punctures - Tubeless tyres, you can ride good amount of kms on it. So you are in this world not in space you will find some repair wala.(Puncture Repair chargeable)
Breakdown - Rarest of rare. (Repair chargeable)
    etc..

And for their assistance you have to wait for them to arrive, where as you can self arrange the necessary, than wasting time there.
Monitoring your ride and periodic service will save you from this situations.

I get the bike with temp on saturday! full papers and number plate only on wednesday. He said they'd send the bike for registration only on monday due to the weekend!

I was looking at the assistance program from a touring perspective. Obviously, we dont need these services in the city, however, I'm not so sure about the areas outside. Am still deciding on this though, will make up my mind on saturday.

BTW, I went ahead and checked the VIN using the decoders available online. It gave me 2013 Austria! Does this seem right?

        • katoom, congrats!

I received a call from Khivraj (Bajaj dealer) couple of hours back. "We've received new gear lever bolts. Please bring your bike and get it replaced within the next two days", I was informed. Now, what's this about? I mean, I hadn't raised a complaint. Is there any known issue with the gear lever on the Duke that has prompted this change?

There's a little apprehension, though, from what one of the guys had shared here (oil leak from air filter post-first-service). I've gather that Auto Service at Banashankari is slightly better of the lot, but is there a 'major' difference in the level of service between this place and Khivraj @ Domlur? Guys who have been to both these places, can you comment please?
Any thoughts/comments on this at all?

                    • Thanks to all of them who wrote their views on the gr8 Duke..........last week I booked baby duke and yest got loans approved and will be taking delivery on 20th as it turns out to be auspicious day. I started doing research on my second bike since 6 months and finally found my love in duke. I have 2003 model classic round doom Pulsar 150 which my brother fell in love and have been using still in pristine conditions after clocking 1 lakh kms. Just cant wait to have my Orange angry bull to arrive home.

                      Thanks,
                      Suresh

                        Hi Katoom

Can you please confirm if this roadside assistance program is being offered by that specific showroom or is it from KTM?

Because if it is from KTM, it will get me out of the dilemma I am in. It is actually what I am looking for(No KTM svc in my city). If it is from KTM, can you please ask the details from showroom people on your next visit, like exact price, 700 for how much time and how many times and what it is called etc. and post it here.

                        Thank you.

                            Hi Sarcastic,

Sure I'll check with the showroom people regarding this issue. I have a feeling this is a universal program across India, as it wouldn't make sense if it is only from this specific showroom. Anyway I will confirm this tomorrow. In the meantime, you could also give a call to your nearest KTM dealer and ask him about the same.

                            • My first service is estimated at 1750 bucks! Please help me understand this better. I know this has been discussed before but I've spent close to 30mins googling but I can't find the posts. Help would be appreciated!

                              Motul 7100 20W50 - 1 liter= Rs 725
                              Oil filter: RS 65
                              Chain lubricant - charged?
                              Coolant topup - charged?
                              What are the other costs?
Check fault memory using diagnosis tool - is this generally done?

I'll assume you mean first "free" service.

You need 1.3L of engine oil, Not sure why only 1L was billed.
Chain lubricant was charged for me as well. That is fine, i guess.
Coolant topup - really shouldn't be required this soon, considering that first free service is done within 45 days of sale.
I don't think diagnosis should be charged at all during free services. It hasn't appeared in any of my service bills yet.
First free service typically costs around 1000-1200 bucks for most owners here.
