    • I have recently discovered that Duke's speedometer is probably quite accurate. Got caught for speeding yesterday. The police speed gun read 133 kmph while the console read 133-134 as well.

A rather funny conversation took place as soon as i was stopped by the traffic police...

Me : *starts pulling out D/L and documents, since they would obviously ask for them*
Cop : How fast were you going?
Me : (Noticing that there is no speed gun in sight, only 2 cops with a jeep parked on the side) something like 75-80 sir. (The speed limit is 80)
Cop : Are you sure you didn't exceed it a little? 85 maybe?
Me : No sir, i was going under 80 only (:P)
Cop : Pulls me to the side of the road to the jeep, opens laptop with a picture of me (1 km or so further back on the road)... "Is this you?"
Me : (damn) Yes, sir :|
Cop : *scrolls down* Recorded speed 133 km/h
      Me : :S
Cop guy threaterns me to get my D/L cancelled for 6 months for negligent riding, pulls out his blackberry and gives me a 300 Rupee ticket for speeding.

And before anyone decides to flame me... I wasn't being rash. It was on BETL (google it) on a sunday afternoon... which means it was completely deserted.

LOL, what a unique method to check accuracy...

Great dishayu, thanks for letting us know that the speedo on Duke is pretty accurate, this is good to know.

Anyway you got off pretty easy for speeding, count your blessings and be careful in the future please.
So your traffic cops have gone high tech over there, huh...fantastic. Surprised to notice the cops didn't
squeeze you for any baksheesh to let you go, hats off to the cops.

Ha ha ha ha. Great escape there man! But hey what makes you think that there speed guns are accurate and hence the Dukes speedo ?

Imagine if the speed guns are overenthusiastic in recording speeds !!!!!

Well, if nothing it could have been worse - the reading could've said 123 km/h!

              Take care man!

I don't think i got off easy, as such. 300 is the official fine for speeding here. I had all my papers in order, was sober and was wearing a helmet. Not much they could have framed me for. And i don't know how else can i be careful than to go under 80 next time.
Who'd have thought they'll have speed cameras 1 km from where they are standing. :S

                • I just visited the Duke 200 India website and noticed that the spec-sheet lists a 4 pot brake caliper. Can any of the very new owners confirm if this is true? I very clearly remember that last year, Indian Duke 200 came with a 2 pot caliper and the European one came with a 4 pot caliper. Is it the 2013 India model that comes with this upgrade?

PS: Sorry for the double post, but i thought i'd make a seperate post since it's unrelated to the previous topic.

I think the Indian KTM website always had this mistake...
Not 100 percent sure, but I think I remember it so.

What a coincidence - I was also booked for overspeeding a day before you at the same place!!

I started off from my place at 6.00 sharp on 9th and reached that place in Devanahalli in flat 6 hours - I was maintaining a speed of 120-140 k/hr and was finally caught after 580 kms at Devanhalli for over speeding!!

There is another funny story behind this.. The inspector sitting in the jeep asked for 200 rs as a bribe or else pay 300 bucks. I chose the latter thinking that it will be used by govt in buiding something and not by him in building his villa! lol

                      Here is the receipt...

                      • No KTM showroom in my city :/

                        Hi All,

Just want to know that would it be advisable to go for Duke in following situation:

My home town is Jalandhar City and nearest KTM Showroom and service is in Ludhiana (65Kms away) called Dada motors.

Also, this Dada motors have a showroom in Jalandhar where they sell bajaj bikes. From this month, the showroom at Jalandhar has started delivering Duke (they bill the bike from KTM Ludhiana only and hand it out here) .The service however will be done at Ludhiana only.

Now my concerns are that if God forbids, there is some kind of snag in the bike and it halts completely, what would happen? Would I be ferrying it to Ludhiana. On asking this, the Jalandhar showroom salesperson says we will look into your bike (but for formality sake). I inquired the same from Ludhiana showroom on ph. to which sales person said that they have a showroom in Jalandhar also and they will be providing first aid repair there only.

Now it is natural for sales person to say such stuff before selling his product and I would be kind of helpless if the Jalandhar svc people tell me to go to Ludhiana for small technical faults also.

Can you please suggest that would it be a wise decision to go for it and spend hard earned money on Duke(I do not question the ability of bike, it's just the situation)?
My parents (out of worry maybe) think that it is nonsense to buy a bike without svc center in the city as they say it is too risky to drive on highway and travel that much for svc.

As the owners of the bike I know you people would be a better judge.

                        Thanks in advance.

                        • @Sarcastic
To get a real clarification on the first part of your post regarding the availability of service you should contact KTM directly (via email [email protected]) - You could also request them if they could (or plan to) have their services guys sent to your city say maybe every two months or so to get the bikes that are sold in your city serviced. Apart from regular servicing, like you mentioned, if something goes wrong that makes the bike unusable, you should clarify if they will send their mechanics to your city or will help in transporting the bike to the main service station.
And you parent's concern regarding safety on the highway is definitely right from their point of view

                          • Trust the bike. 65 kms is nothing compared to hundreds of dukes here in Northeast with just 3 dealers!

When I bought my Duke I was 200 km away from nearest service center. Now, another one opened in Pondicherry, and I'm "only" 110 km away.
                              It's totally not a problem.

Duke is the first bike I owned where at both first and second services, when mechanic asked me if I have any issues, I answered "nothing".

Sure, bad luck *could* always happen and you're stranded with a serious issue away from service center, but from what I read in this and other forums in past, KTM guys can and will come to any place if it is not possible for you to reach a service center.

Unless you have a bad luck, Duke is a bike which will hardly give you any issues, especially serious ones where you're not able to reach a service center.
You'll usually need to visit a service center only for regular services.

And anyway, 65 km can hardly be considered as "far away". Especially for Duke and in regard to previous speeding comments, lol...

So, have no worries. It's a good and reliable bike.

                              • Hi everyone!

I've been a long time follower of this thread and it has really pushed towards getting the Duke

So finally, after months of deliberation, I have decided to take the plunge and get the bike. Really excited right now!

I called up KTM Pune, and they told me that bike is readily available and that I can get it anytime I want. I've finalized my finances and will be going over there today to get it. Now I have a couple of questions regarding this, which I hope the members can clarify.

                                1. How do I select the bike? Is there a something to look for specifically while selecting the bike? I have already gone through the PDI list and found it a bit general. If anyone has any suggestions towards the Duke I'd really appreciate it.

                                2. The dealer said it'll take 2-3 days for the bike to get registered. Should I leave the bike at the showroom during this time or take it with me under temporary registration? I am not really inclined towards leaving the bike at the showroom. Also would like to know about the rules regarding temporary registration here as I am new in the state.

Thank you all for helping me decide and I will be posting my experiences here as the days go on!

                                Regards
