  • [QUOTE=keshavrana;930383]Hello guys!!! Finally a member of duke family
    Sorry for the long post
Been thinking of writing this since the day i bought my bike.

Have been following this thread since nov 12 when i sold my 5yr old P200 to buy a new bike. since than i was without a bike but as i was not at home it was not much of a problem. so my search for new worthy upgrade was on. Three contenders were on the list bull500, cbr 250, D200. 3 bikes from 3 different segments but in my budget. Was never a fan of Bullet, but got confused between the other two option, but finally decided on D200 without even taking a test ride(based on my 3 months research)

Brought her home on 14th march. buying experience was good. Called the showroom at 12 and asked him whether he will be able to give me the bike on same day, he said only if I do cash payment, i said ok. I went to the showroom at 3pm, met the guy, checked the bike. All the three colors were available on display but i just wanted the true color of KTM, so selected the orange bike, checked her, payed the money. Was out of the showroom in less than 2 hrs with my new bike, was really happy .

Home was around 14 km away, initial ride was good, bike was easy to ride, seats bit hard, engine got quite hot when got stuck in jam but overall ride experience was good.
Till now have done 500+ km, a couple of 100 km rides, happy with her performance overall.

Few things which I didnt like
--> HORN- i dont know why they have given such a tiny horn initially i thought it was ok, but as now i am riding her more and more i realise that its not enough,
    people dont even notice you.
-->SEATS - Really small for a guy like me specially the pillion seat is really small. Me and my frnd both 90+ sat together on the bike, it was like pillion was hugging
the rider . good if the pillion is girl but with the guys . Also the seats are really hard, feels like sitting on a plank , P200 seats were hard but
    these are really really hard.
-->6 gears - I know, i konw it is not a bad thing and i am getting used to it, but coming from a bike with 5 gears where we constantly needed to change gears, to
a bike with 6 gears and which can run even at 30 in 6th i tend to forget which gear i am running in will take some time to adjust.
-->Rear disc - Again the same problem as above, have to get adjusted , there were 2 instances of rear Tyre skidding, may be i applied the brake too hard or
because the tyre was new or may be both. this problem is almost solved now
-->Vibration and noise - i dont know weather this is normal with a new D200 or not but the vibrations are very noticeable at almost any speed( but the degree of vib
varies) & the exhaust sound is also very noticeable even at low speeds. Both these thing were not present on P200 so i am little worried.
-->Leg guard - its very small, i dont know will it be enough in case of a fall??? what do you guys think?
-->indicators & mirrors - i wish they had given the auto cancel type indicator, as i am very used to of this feature, many times i forget to switch of the indicator after
taking the turn . Mirrors i feel are very small but atleast they donot vibrate like P200
-->Other - Engine kill switch switches of the display also which is like using the key, even on my p200 it used to just switch of the engine not everything.
When engine is running the electric start switch is still active, when pressed it will try to start the engine which is not good for the starter mechanism, on
P200 this switch was inactive when engine was running. Although small issues but could have been taken care of as bajaj already have the solution for its
    bikes.
The Gear shifting lever and the rear brake levers are really small(i mean the width not the distance from the foot peg), my right feet tend to slip many
times when i try to apply the rear brake have to be conscious about this all the time .
-->Attractive - YES its a problem, every one keep asking me the price, the company( which they donot know about), foreign ki hai ??? Plus its really difficult to park
her in open, even outside my house because of the safety
Things I like : well everything else other than the above points

A little comparo of the two(P200 & D200) may help some one like me to decide there next upgrade
power and torque - D200 better than p200, in city changing gear not much required and is lot quicker.
looks - depends, both look awesome, but as you are upgrading, its a worthy upgrade.
brakes - much better than p200
    handling - very good
Seats - not comfortable and smaller than P200

Congrats on your bike buddy. Yes you're right about the horn and vibrations and heat. Clearly the vibrations are felt and the seats definitely will set in once they are pounded

But the sound is what I hated in the bike really could have improved in that part but anyway that was my opinion.

Don't worry nothing is perfectly suited to everyone out there. You'll all get set in.

    Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

Yeah got it checked it was 1000kms. I changed the engine oil at 500 kms after coming across information stating that it would be good to do so. But having completed 2500 have not topped up the coolant level. Guess have to recheck my coolant level.

      • Got a call again from Khivraj Kasturba road who said new brake lever bolts have arrived and that I could get mine changed in the coming days (got the gear lever bolt changed during the 1st free service at Domlur).

BTW, damaged my bike's left RVM this morning and the glass shattered fully (while nothing much happened to the frame). Is the RVM covered under the warranty/insurance? Can't seem to find a mention in the manual in the quick search I just did.

Happened with me while learning to ride. (This is my first bike and have no prior experience in 2 wheelers or 4 wheelers) Bike just came to a stop while taking U turn and fell. SHattered the mirror but frame was intact. Now I know that bike needs to be kept at high revs.

Well coming to the point, its not covered under warranty and costs around 65 Rs. along with the full frame. SVC guys will change it.

Have experienced the same on applying rear brakes hard. But I like it. The Rear tyre skids like a Snake's movement. But I guess that was because tyres were new. Also sometimes, there is some sort of Power drift while taking sharp turn at high speed.

              • ^65bucks? Man! I just called up the SVC and they quoted 250 bucks! (or wait, am I confused? Is 65bucks for the glass alone? Is it possible to replace only the glass on an old frame?!)

                • Just Got my new Dukie from Khivraj motors Bengaluru, and here is the experience of becoming the owner of this young lady (Without taking any test drive... Thanks to XBHP for providing lot's of information).
I sold my old Pulsar 150cc (Had wonderful moments with her) and I was waiting to get Duke 200 ABS version, but I spoke to Pune dealers and got the information that It will take 6 more months. So immediately I changed my mind and booked one Dukie for me.
Payed the amount and went for selecting the bike. I felt like Swayamwar with all the hot models standing in front of me to choose them .
Then I kept my hand on the authentic KTM (Orange one) confirming that I selected her (The main attraction was the BYBRE name mentioned on the brakes is in silver color but for few others, it is in Black color and also the chasis no. ************007 ). Done the paper work and asked them to get my darling ready to take her home.
From my previous posts, I read that Teflon coating is for free. I asked the same, but guess what, disappointment.... it's chargeable(Teflon coating (1+1) & 3M scratch guard film at tank = 1560/-).
Please let me know whether I got cheated for this?
After that... Chakkas... The Bike is a stunning beauty now. I asked to check all the oil levels and the coolant as well.
After that I got some demo from Ravi, the KTM engineer I suppose. Thanks XBHP for providing lot's of information before, I felt like an Front bench student asking all the questions to him and got some good recognition from others. I learned all about the Cockpit and adjusted the RPM from 5K to 7.5K.
The same day I got a new Helmet LS2 FF 350 for 2.6K in JC road.
Along with the petrol coupon they give, I filled 2- liters of Speed petrol and headed towards my home. The first riding was totally new because of the seating position. The traffic was huge, so the radiator started its job blowing hot air on my legs (Now I got used to it).
No problem so far, but the tires are very slippery (be careful for the first few hundred kms).
After reaching home (Around 20 Km from showroom), everyone started asking questions on my bike(How much?, Which company?, What is the name of the bike?, Is it an imported one).
In the night, I took a 10 km ride and filled the tank with Shell Super unleaded petrol and went back home.

But still I miss few things in my bike when I start comparing with P200 NS.
                  * Bar end sliders,
                  * Tidy tail,
                  * Front number plate mounted under the headlight or a better place,
                  * Sound...

But Duke is Duke no doubt in it. It's worth each & every penny. It still has many options to alternate(Powerparts).

Thanks for reading it patiently. Pics will be coming soon along with some awesome experiences with my Baby Duke.

                  Key to Success.
                  KTM Lover,

                  Zak

Sorry for the late reply. Yeah I asked the showroom people about the program. Its called Orange Assist. Cuurently based in Pune only. There are two levels, Basic for 400/- and advanced for 700/-. The difference between both includes the range of service ( 50kms vs 100kms) and some other extra assistances provided by the showroom. I guess you will have to confirm with the dealer at your end if there is such a program available.

                    Hi Xzibit, Katoom,

Thank you for the info. I did call the nearest dealer and asked him what would happen in a situation where the bike is completely unusable. Will I ferry it to svc and he said yes. So I assume that either he might not know about this program or it is not available here.

Also, I have emailed KTM about the same too, and I am quiet surprised too see that it has been 5 days and they have not responded to my email yet. I have read that KTM customer care ([email protected]) is prompt to respond, but this is disappointing

Or maybe they are not interested in queries of people who do not own the bike.

                    Thanks.

Will copying Bajaj help? And I don't think they will reply. 5-6 days is a long time for an email to get burried. Isn't it?

                        • I have a question regarding the bike. My duke is nearly a year old and i have noticed that the starter runs even when the engine kill switch is enabled. On showing this to the SVC guys they said its because I have installed adjustable clutch & brake levers. Do u guys think that they are related??

                          Thanks

I think there is some kind of electrical problem. AFAIK adjustable levers are mechanical parts and cannot cause an electrical problem . Try contacting the customer care for this. Also have u had any issues with the gear shifter. I have a new bike( just 900kms old) and have a little trouble shifting from 3rd-4th gear. Mostly the 4th gear does not engage properly the first time and i have to gently push it a little further.
