This is the only saving grace that they pay heed to the problems, still its sort of disappointing for a new bike to develop a issue like this in the first place.Originally posted by joshzma225 View Post
Hi Rohan,I guess its better we wait for the new MFD to come out as @joshzma is suggesting ,there is no guarantee that the current ones wont have the same issue,Even I have moisture in the indicator issue which Ill get it replaced during my first service.Originally posted by Rohan200ns View Post

they just clicked pictures of those parts during my 1st service and told me that they will place an order for those parts ..i dont know when they are going to get it .. i am not forcing them to do it quickly ..i dont mind waitingOriginally posted by incognito View PostHi Rohan,I guess its better we wait for the new MFD to come out as @joshzma is suggesting ,there is no guarantee that the current ones wont have the same issue,Even I have moisture in the indicator issue which Ill get it replaced during my first service.

Its better not to force them up front. Everything takes its own time.Originally posted by Rohan200ns View Postthey just clicked pictures of those parts during my 1st service and told me that they will place an order for those parts ..i dont know when they are going to get it .. i am not forcing them to do it quickly ..i dont mind waiting
I have already experienced this.
Also, If the issues are not hampering your driving ability, then better let them resolve it. I am sure they will do it.Hero Honda Karizma

the senior service manager in our area once came to the showroom..
he also clicked pics of the issues..
he said that he'll inform me when the rectified parts are available...
he was a very good guy...
but good guy or bad guy...wen want these issues to be resolved even if it takes some time..

If you don't mind my asking, do you know how complicated it was for your friend to strip the bike down far enough to paint the frame? I eventually want to re-do mine (once I get it; looks like October now) with an orange frame as well. I'm assuming he had to at least completely remove the wiring harness, and maybe drop the motor as well.Originally posted by NiXTriX View PostThat bike belongs to a friend of mine. The mod is being carried out by my brother at his shop.. You mean the one with the chopped tail right?ATGATT: All The Gear, All The Time!

Yeah.. we did look into painting the entire frame but that would involve huge overheads. We spoke to the SVC guys and they were not too confident about dropping the motor and all the other stuff. We ourselves didn't want to take it up as we didn't have the service manual to put the bike back together.Originally posted by The Mountain View PostIf you don't mind my asking, do you know how complicated it was for your friend to strip the bike down far enough to paint the frame? Hence we just removed the body panels and used a lot of masking tape. Only the Trellis area is painted as of now. The entire frame will be done once we get the manual in hand.
EDIT: Even the tank would have to be removed to repaint the entire frame. Few more pics are attached.Last edited by NiXTriX; 08-17-2012, 10:24 AM.Live to ride.. ride to forget..

Once they have the parts they will replace under warranty. Now this is a good gesture on their part.Originally posted by Rohan200ns View Postthey just clicked pictures of those parts during my 1st service and told me that they will place an order for those parts ..i dont know when they are going to get it .. i am not forcing them to do it quickly ..i dont mind waiting
I have seen high-end cars whose rear tail lights are full of water, and we are only having moisture, so problems do occur with every vehicle as these parts are out sourced from vendors and bajaj may not be overseeing the QC there.
Yes bajaj needs to have more stringent QC for a premium vehicle like the Duke.30+ YEARS OF RIDING

Just one suggestion have you tried painting the swing arm in orange too, i do not recollect where but yes i have seen a 690 in that pattern and trust me it looks awesome. May be you can photoshop it first to get a hang of it and then try the actual one, even those orange rim strips look good on it.sigpic

@ MOUNTAIN, First of all thnaks for the detailed and clear reply regarding engine oil , that posted link was quite helpful ( the link about motorcycle engine oil ) , i did my bit as well and came to realize that its better for me to stick with SS till 4, 5k . now i am contemplating whether 15w50 instead of recommended 20w50 be as good, here operating temp varies from 24 to 32 as of now and by the time i change oil ie almost 15-20 days from now it will decrease in morning to around 15 and max will remain the same.Originally posted by The Mountain View PostIf you don't mind my asking, do you know how complicated it was for your friend to strip the bike down far enough to paint the frame? I would say the best mod which i have seen in terms of colour change on Duke, looks cleanly finished and choice of colour combination is superb as well ( i quite liked the steel grey panels where Duke is Written otherwise ) and i always tend to gravitate towards Power of BlackOriginally posted by NiXTriX View PostYeah.. we did look into painting the entire frame but that would involve huge overheads. The pictures posted are low res, can you guide me towards a source of better quality pics, also i hope it is not too much to ask but i will heartily appreciated if you guide me towards method of how to paint trellis in orange, like the procedure and which colour and paint machine you used, by the way did your brother also planned to change colour od white shock or of alloys? may be using a better colour on mono shock will also get rid of peeling issue which many are encountering on rear shock
i have exactly the same problem, MFD fogging and one of rear binker fogging but not yet had a word with SVC. Whom do you generally report these issues to, i. the service head or manager etc?Originally posted by Rohan200ns View Posti have showed the same to the svc and they told that i will be getting a new mfd console ..
also new indicators for water inside them .. they told that it might cause short circuit so better to replace it ..
Also except these issues i would like to report to owners who have bought the Duke before and are curious to know issues status with new batch that till now i have not faced any issues i.e. chain noise, gear shift issue ( it was hard initially but now its good ), exhaust header colour/ corrosion etc etc .
Only issue is i find that the handling is not as good as i had experienced in test vehicle, i don't know why ?
Also Rohan my suggestion is do not use Mineral in this bike just stick with SS
i have a question - first time yesterday i.e. at completion of 250 kms on ODO i went up till 7000 rpm in 6th gear, i noticed engine got bit vibey cross 5000 |( 5000 being the rpm which i generally do not cross) , I have read a case where since the engine was not revved beyond a certain low rpm during running in ie. around 5k for a bike with 14k redlinehence when the biker reveed it till 10k at completetion of 1k on odo he was simply finding it too difficult to reach that rpm.
Now what i am tryign to get at is that - in this forum only, some have adviced not to corss 5k rom till 500 kms on odo while KTM just says not to cross 7500 rpm till 1000 on odo and never to use full throttle .
Motoman and some other web based sources advice to go all the way to redline in each gear from day one
Some say to reline once in a while but not frequently
Till now what i have done is (I) i tried Mountain's advice of brake breaking in and Kudos to it , it really works. I have no squealing brakes etc
(2) for engine break in - i from 0 KM on ODo on my bike never lugged engine as well as never revved engine beyond 7k. I during initial bike run let the rev limiter touch 6 k rpm knowingly and after that i generally change gear at 5k , 5.5 k .
Now should i occasional reach 7, 7.5 k for a minute or two so as to facilitate engine break in? any other advices regarding engine break in?
I hope Mountain and other experienced members will come to rescue

One thing I see, and this seems to extend to many here on the board, is why is there no consideration for running different grades of oil at different times of the year? Particularly here in India, at least in some areas, the temperature can be at or below freezing on some mornings during the winter, yet close to 50 in the middle of the day during the summer. So, run a 10W40 in the winter, and a 15W50 or 20W50 in the summer. Remember, oil is oil; the numbers just refer to how well it flows at various temperatures.Originally posted by maverick1 View Post@ mOUNTAIN, First of all thnaks for the detailed and clear reply regarding engine oil , that posted link was quite helpful ( the link about motorcycle engine oil ) , i did my bit as well and came to realize that its better for me to stick with SS till 4, 5k . now i am contemplating whether 15w50 instead of recommended 20w50 be as good, here operating temp varies from 24 to 32 as of now and by the time i change oil ie almost 15-20 days from now it will decrease in morning to around 15 and max will remain the same.ATGATT: All The Gear, All The Time!

Painting the shocks and alloys are not on the agenda.. Predominantly black is the idea.. The bike still a work in progress. The entire procedure will be up on a separate thread once the work is complete.

Dude. You read my mind? I was thinking yesterday that how an orange shocker would look? but could not make up my mind if it looked better than the white.Originally posted by Eshan-P180 View PostTwo words for you Nixtrix - F****** Brilliant, that matt black actually pulled off quite well...

I have plans to get the trellis frame painted orange after the Monsoons here. So might as well get the shocker done orange too !The hero always RIDES into the sunset!

i dont have any other issues to report .. gear shifts are butter smooth from day 1... i have not ridden it beyond 100kmph till now but i have revved it to 8000rpm quite a few times after first service ..i always get to feel proper power across all revs .. the clutch has been set slightly loose during service and i was told that it is done so as to improve the life of clutch plates,, is it true ?? .. i prefer to have slightly hard and heavy clutch action in my left hand ...Originally posted by maverick1 View Posti have exactly the same problem, MFD fogging and one of rear binker fogging but not yet had a word with SVC. get your rear suspension set to a harder setting to get proper handling ..i got it done and i am more happy now ..
i will change oil again at 3500kms .. then again at 6000kms service ..
saw a duke stunt spec bike with orange-white colored alloys .. looked awesome .. half alloy in orange and other half in white ...try it out ...Originally posted by NiXTriX View PostSwingarm in orange?
