Thanks for the link.Originally posted by eme View PostYou can try to get a similar guard shown in the below pic if possible.
The advantage I found, was in looks................with the rear tyre hugger- the rear of the Duke seemed like a scooter - without it, it is a street fighter.Originally posted by kevin4nivek View PostHi Bro, I also want to remove the rear tyre hugger, however wanted to confirm if there are any disadvantages of doing it. Well even with it, it does not prevent mud and slush from covering the bike in rain. Did you find any advantages / disadvantages post removal of the hugger
The disadvantage - females wearing saree cannot ride pillion without the rear tyre hugger, since the unit houses the saree guard, which when removed would allow the saree to be entangled with the rear sprocket and the tyre, causing harm to the pillion.
Mud and slush is the least of worries.........it wud be the same with or without the rear tyre hugger.
My father advised me against the removal of the tyre hugger, but I bought the bike for myself - and if I need to carry saree clad passengers, I have my car.Last edited by MACH50; 08-23-2012, 11:59 PM.Hell's Angel

same here .. i take 3 hours to clean it .. i use my secondary vehicle ( suzuki access ) when it rains .. my duke is resting at home whenever the roads are wet ..Originally posted by kevin4nivek View PostThat's true but cleaning the dirty pig is what Dukers should be worried about. I myself am and prefer not to take my ride out when it pours!!
i dont care about saree guard cuz i will never have a saree clad pillion ...
bike looks much better with the huge tyres completely exposed ...

Front Number Plate parody
The front number plate provided on the Duke 200 is not acceptable at all and does a serious damage to the street-fighter image of this bike.
What I need to know, if the easy alternative - that is the Number sticker on the front mudguard is permissible by the law.
It is used on many Sportsbikes- I hope the ridiculous law do not have a problem with that !!!
The other alternative is clamping the number plate below headlamp unit, but given the variety of roads I travel on, the number plate is surely going to be hammered by shocker travel.Hell's Angel

Thanks Dude but I guess it would be really troublesome for anyone wearing a saree to sit on a duke even with the saree guard on. So I guess I will be removing the tyre hugger from my ride soon!!Originally posted by MACH50 View PostThanks for the link.

Hi Mach, as far as I can recall, number sticker on the front mudguard is not street legal since the no. should be visible from a distance for which it needs to be on a straight line. Sticking the no. on the mudguard reduces visibility for the same and can attract traffic cops especially in metros to fine you for the same.Originally posted by MACH50 View PostThe front number plate provided on the Duke 200 is not acceptable at all and does a serious damage to the street-fighter image of this bike.

Clamping the number plate below headlamp unit would be a much viable option.

Warranty is on the product, not on the person whom the product was sold.
So dont worry & but it.
One friend in Bangalore bought a second hand bike but was told by the Bangalore showroom that warranty was void. He had to pay from his pocket to have the cracked alloy wheels replaced.Live to ride.. ride to forget..

Till now my radiator fan has never switched on. i have never reached the separate high temp bar region, does it switches on before that as well? and how is the sound? i know its difficult to describe a sound so if there is a link for its audio please let me know.
Also has anyone noticed that when the toolkit is removed from rear seat and seat is locked without toolkit, the seat becomes loose on the right hand side , i.e. it moves in vertical direction?
anyone tired to replace horns with better louder horns and what was svc reaction to it? i read in this thread somewhere it cant be more then 85 mm?
The Allen key set which comes with Duke does not fit the assembly of the number plate, as i wish to move number plate below the headlight, has anybody;s toolkit has the required tool and if not which number key was used for it?
Also does anybody tried autographics tank pad? or any other tank pad for under 500 RS?
Any seat cover other then Duke's own as it is yet not available as my place ? i know Bullets fir well, but any known brand etc, which i can look for or which can be ordered online?
Also to all fellow Dukers an interesting observation - when i warm up my bike running on Bajaj DTSI oil for roughly 3.5 to 3.7 mins in morning so as temp bar shows 5 bars and then starts riding , bike gearshift and engine feel is super smooth compared to roughly 3 mins and 4 bars on temp bars.
Those extra 230 secs makes a huge diff and big grin on my face .
Assuming 95 % bikes in running in period are on stock DTSI oil, have a go at this and enjoy the experience .

Also Bike feels happier at higher speed then usual indian traffic speeds i.e. upwards of 35km/hr , it does not mean it can not potter at 15-20 just feels bit sad at those speeds. to put in simpler terms Throttle needs more steady hands .
DISCLAIMER- Duke is never happy being treated like Bajaj Boxer or Splendor or CD 100SS
as far as riding style goes .

I have seen few cases of Duke and NS owners complaining abt the Radiator Fan not working, and while they checked it out on SVC, it was seen that the Fan had a loose wire connection.... So u must also check it out in an SVC.Originally posted by maverick1 View PostTill now my radiator fan has never switched on. i have never reached the separate high temp bar region, does it switches on before that as well? and how is the sound? i know its difficult to describe a sound so if there is a link for its audio please let me know.
Abt the Fan sound, I haven't rode a LC bike yet (booked a NS and awaiting delivery) but have experienced the fan sound in our car. Its like humming sound, which you can clearly distinguish from the engine sound.
It's kind out the sound of a overloaded processor coming from a Desktop CPU in the winter season.

The MFD calculates the FE every 800 meters based on the riding speed and rpm, so it fluctuates.Originally posted by Ankitvile View PostThe MFD shows 45km/l rt now after riding 100+kms....but it keeps om changing from 25km/l to 48km/l...why does it fluctuates so much?.
also what does the red light on the top..2nd from the left indicates?..its lit since tomorrow.Anything i should be worried about.?
The red Light is called the MIL or Malfunction Indicator Light. Normally it should not stay on when engine is running. If there is some problem it will light up. Sometimes after a water wash there have been cases reported about the light. If you are not able to start the bike visit your ASC.
For me it moves even when the toolkit is there. If I put in some cloth which is used to wipe the bike, the packing is firm, and the seat does not move.Originally posted by maverick1 View PostAlso has anyone noticed that when the toolkit is removed from rear seat and seat is locked without toolkit, the seat becomes loose on the right hand side , i.e. it moves in vertical direction?
The toolkit is not of much use on the nuts for the duke. You can get an allenkey set for Rs. 100 which has most of the sizes and has the one which can be used to open the number plate. Also get a T spanner (size 8 & 10) which is the most common size for most bolts on the duke. The spanner tends to slip on these bolts.Originally posted by maverick1 View PostThe Allen key set which comes with Duke does not fit the assembly of the number plate, as i wish to move number plate below the headlight, has anybody;s toolkit has the required tool and if not which number key was used for it?
I tend to warm up the bike for a minute or till the first bar is visible. The bike is smooth and i find it more powerful when its cooler. I am also running on Dtsi after 1st service.Originally posted by maverick1 View PostAlso to all fellow Dukers an interesting observation - when i warm up my bike running on Bajaj DTSI oil for roughly 3.5 to 3.7 mins in morning so as temp bar shows 5 bars and then starts riding , bike gearshift and engine feel is super smooth compared to roughly 3 mins and 4 bars on temp bars.

Warranty
You are right, warranty is valid to the first owner of a vehicle. it is same for cars and bikes.Originally posted by NiXTriX View PostGet a statement from KTM for this.
One friend in Bangalore bought a second hand bike but was told by the Bangalore showroom that warranty was void. He had to pay from his pocket to have the cracked alloy wheels replaced.
If this is different in case of duke then you will have to take in writing from KTM before buying.

also how accurate is it.? im in run-in period its showing 39kmpl currently...
And the MIL light switches on when i turn the ignition key on. And goes of when the bike starts. So its not a problem?? i guess ??Code:https://www.instagram.com/ankit_himalayas/

Well to measure the KMPL accurately, do a tank to tank or reserve to reserve method once or twice, that way you will get a clear idea of the mileage.Originally posted by Ankitvile View Postthanks bro.

39 kmpl is good bcoz i used to get 36, and still get around 36.
Yes, the red light (MIL) goes of once engine is running, so its no problem.30+ YEARS OF RIDING
