Motul is costlier than Castrol.
Replacing is not necessary unless you feel that the current coolant is not doing its job, also its a tedious job as you need to flush out the reservoir, radiator and engine parts where coolant flows.
    Thanks a lot Janesh

and some one please help regarding this hiccup issue in the first two gears
      .
when i open the throttle fully in the 1st gear it is having hiccups while taking in air upto certain rpm and then it breathes properly , i cleaned the air filter also but still same problem is there
ive clocked 1350kms and 1st service is done
If the air filter has been ruled out, then get the SVC to do a read out on the Fault Memory using the KTM Diagnostics tool that Every KTM SVC has. Alternatively also have them check your fuel filter and fuel pressure.
Speed, it seems to me, provides the one genuinely modern pleasure.

          • Got duke'd

Hi, Im vidya sagar from hassan(karnataka).I have been following this thread for months. finally got my chance to post my ownership experiences.

I took my duke delivery on June 16 from quivraj KTM,Bangalore, they gave a quick brief. then we rode to shell ,after filling 7Ltrs it came to brim(already has 3Ltrs) .But fortunately no spillage.

1.Rode around 46kms in Bangalore traffic,Observed radiator fan running blowing hot air, though didnt felt any uncomfortable

2.Gear shifts are smooth felt on par with my unicorn, finding neutral is easy.

3.Suspension is hard ,its not forgiving even minute cracks.

4.Felt no noise coming from front assembly, or chain.

            Bajaj sorted the teething issues.

The next day started to hassan from bangalore,Nature shown mercy no rain through out the journey although its cloudy. Didnt felt butt-aches after 200Km Journey (Iron-Butt ??). But felt palm scorching because of the grips.Maintained 50-80Kmph got 44-50Kmpl mileage (as per console).

After Reaching home unable to sit idle, Went for a short trip to belore. Tried some corners, those tires really got some grip. Brakes and headlight beam are adequate too.Cant complain.

Before taking delivery i was in dilemma whether i made a hasty decision. Because my right knee recently operated (ACL tear). I was unsure whether riding posture can cause pain in knee. After riding 300Kms in a day felt no pain ,found its perfect posture for me. Riding duke made me 5 years younger.

            Now got some questions,

1.Somehow i managed to reset the Kms to Next serive , Instead showing 1000kms-odo its now showing 5000Kms-odo ,anyway to change it back?

2.if we turn the key ON, does the MIL alarm lights ON and only disappears after the ignition ?

You have already got enough replies, but I would like to explain it in this way -
First of all someone who is attracted to Classic styling like Yezdi will find it difficult to accept Duke. But then he had opted for Yezdi because it was different in many ways. Now do mention some points in favor of Duke and compare other common bikes to show the differences. Points will be like - Good pickup and power, styling, less expensive parts, awsome braking etc. Now the rider and pillion comfort is surely a bit less, but that can be fixed to some extent(seat padding). Also, I would say discuss the matter properly with him and listen to his points carefully. He might add good points and help you decide your bike.

I can't comment on the ride quality at softest setting, but I would suggest you to decide carefully. Coz a lower back problem is something serious. Only adding foam to the seat may give you a bit relief, but ergonomics, seating position is not restricted to the softness of the seat. So test drive the bike for few Kms during office time start stop traffic and during that if you feel even 10% problem, please do consider your decision. Think about the long term effect it could have.

Estimated cost for this would be around 5000+ with labor. I had few question:-
              1. Do minor accidental qualify for insurance claims. - Yours is not minor accidental repairs. And to my knowledge any accidental repairs qualify for insurance claim.
              2. Should i claim insurance. - It's wise to choose between insurance claim and self sponsored repair. But in your case it has to be insurance claim as the amount is 5000+ and many metal parts are involved.
              3. The Insurance is from ICICI Lombard and they don't have KTM service centre for Cashless facility, what is the procedure & what document do i need to take from KTM SVC. - Just call the ICICI Lombard customer care helpline and they will surely guide you thoroughly. Normal flow is ---- you have to leave your vehicle at the SVC. The Bank will send his surveyor to the SVC. The surveyor and the mechanic/service engineer will discuss about the parts to be repaired or replaced. After that the Bank will confirm you which parts are covered and to what percentage. So after you give go ahead, the SVC will start working and give you the bill. Now both parties(you and bank) as agreed before will pay their part and take the bike from SVC.

Guys do help me to figure it out.

and guys today i ripped the bike like usual
and the bike was lagging totally in the 1st two gears when i right open the throttle fully
its like some hiccup in the air flow to the engine and it takes a break and then revs normally again
can the air filter be the culprit?
ive finished 1350 kms and 1st service is done !
I may be totally wrong, but the air intake is inside/below the front seat cover, right?? Are you sure the seat mod is not restricting the air flow?

i will post the pics by evening !
                .

whats the realtion between seat mod and the air intake
no matter how much foam uve put , ur adding on the top layer only not on the below !
if we think in ur way , then if a person sits he is like compressing the seat and blocks the passage of air
then do u say air is getting restricted ?
                .
                even i might be wrong,
im waiting for some other inputs from fellow riders
                .
i dont think so that air will be restricted if we put foam on the top layer
and i did this mod right after i got my bike
but the hiccup problem im facing it recently from past 2 days

actually i am also planning trip to Badrinath in July with my wife.. hoping every thing will be fine as duke's pillion is quiet short..
to increase luggage capacity i have bought rynox saddlebag of capacity around 52 liters that can be expanded to 72 liters..
Dude.. alone is cool on the Duke.. but with a pillion rider it is really gonna be hectic and uncomfortable.. Think about it again.

How much did you rev up the engine in those 50 kms?

I have noticed that when you ride it at very high rpm's - the engine won't start.. You have to switch off the key and start again to make the engine start properly.. or else give a bit of throttle to start it..

Yes, the MIL alarm light goes off once the engine starts, when engine is off its it ON.

Yes, air intake wont be restricted, as there is a pipe attached to the intake box, which extents upto the pillion seat. Now unless there is some obstruction at head of the pipe, it may cause hiccups, check that pipe is obstruction free.

Usually when i ride for long, engine is hot i mean volcanic hot (within safe zone), i dont switch it off immediately, let it idle for about half minute, which gives its chance to breath and lubricate. This has never given me any starting problem hot or cold.
