As always, your comment was very insightful and helpful. I too doubt that the suspension setting might have to adjusted. The bike comes with suspension setting at 5(5 clicks). My usual pillion is 55 Kg only. The pillion I was riding with yesterday must have been close to 70-80 Kgs. SO probably the handling charecteristics were impacted more. I did try with the setting 6 (which is mentioned as full payload in the manual I think)once, but then it becomes a bit harsh when ridden solo.Originally posted by The Mountain View PostCheck your suspension setting. If the rear spring isn't properly set for a pillion, the suspension isn't going to be able to cope with the extra weight properly. Since this is closer to a real performance bike than pretty much everything else in the Indian market, it's going to actually be sensitive to suspension settings (such as they are). If the spring isn't properly set for the extra weight, the rear suspension in particular is going to make the bike feel very unstable. This is magnified by the fact that the Duke is very lightweight. The bike on its own weighs only slightly more than a human. Adding a pillion effectively doubles the curb weight of the machine, a significant percentage increase of the total weight even accounting for the rider.
Besides, the tool which is used to change the setting is custom made by Bajaj and would not be available in the market.
I'll go through the method which you have posted to arrive at a good compromise for both solo and with pillion riding. Thanks a lot.

No, sorry, no pics where I got it from, but the description should be adequate to going through the process. It's not as complicated as it looks:Originally posted by R-series View Post^^ are there any pics along with this or do I have a problem with the browser/pc?
Measure the distance from the axle up to a point on the frame at a 90 degree angle to the swingarm with the suspension fully extended.
Then get on the bike, have a friend balance so you can pick your feet up. Push the rear of the bike down about an inch, let it return slowly, then measure again. Then lift the rear about an inch, let it settle, measure again. Then average the two "loaded" measurements, and subtract the result from the fully-extended measurement. There's your sag measurement.ATGATT: All The Gear, All The Time!

You might make sure the radiator hoses aren't touching the exhaust anywhere up front, but more likely you have a tire rubbing something inside the fender, rear hugger, or saree guard.Originally posted by joel_sherly View PostI get a strong smell of burnt rubber when I ride at high speeds..

Can anyone suggest me the where to look for damage???
has anyone else experienced this issue???ATGATT: All The Gear, All The Time!

Unless KTM uses some kind of exotic coolant (or you are), it shouldn't matter. Polypropylene Glycol is the same chemical no matter who's name is on the bottle.Originally posted by anshuljain View PostCoolant level is at minimum in my bike, and Castrol Radicool is not available in Jammu, so can I top up with another coolant, any suggestions.
Also, as long as it isn't *below* the minimum line, you're still ok.
As a general note, it looks like this issue is fairly common with this bike i.e. the coolant level dropping after it leaves the showroom. It might be prudent for new buyers to request a small bottle of coolant be delivered with the bike, so the coolant can be topped off when the almost-inevitable level drop happens.Last edited by The Mountain; 06-22-2012, 08:37 PM.ATGATT: All The Gear, All The Time!

Is your duke in its run-in period? if it is, it may be the piston rings seating in..Originally posted by joel_sherly View PostI get a strong smell of burnt rubber when I ride at high speeds..

Distilled water can be used to top up in case of a contingency.Originally posted by The Mountain View PostUnless KTM uses some kind of exotic coolant (or you are), it shouldn't matter. Polypropylene Glycol is the same chemical no matter who's name is on the bottle.

I never faced this problem though. The level is still a notch above the min mark. It did come down a bit but that was because there was fall and the resultant spillThe hero always RIDES into the sunset!
