  • Shift Light not coming up?

    Hey guys,

Its over a week for my Duke and the Odo reads 300kms, one thing i wanted to check is that i have never seen the shift light coming up on the console while reading. I haven;t changed the stock RPM1 and RPM2 settings, so ideally the light should start flashing at 5000rpm and be constant at 7500rpm (correct me if i have understood wrongly). Though i have not touched the 7500 rpm mark yet( little bit skeptic about touching it this early ), i generally ride in around 4k - 6k range (40-60kmph), i have never seen the shift light coming up. Any idea what could be the reason?

The bike has done 825Km till now and is soon due for service.

Even my bike has the same kind of leakage, but on the other side of engine, just above the Round-shape of the engine (where its written-RACING-KTM),.. And I Also had the same concern.

Your RPM1 and RPM2 were probably not set for the run-in settings at the factory (even mine wasn't).
You can do so yourself (refer the manual or search on this thread).

It would really help other members to assist you and benefit you if you posted pictures of the issue.

As for the problem concerned, the best we could advise you is to take your bike to the ASC and get it checked.

This is awesome man. What was your riding speeds and what gears. Was it all highway riding or city + highway ?

                Have you completed run-in ?

And if there's no limit, I don't think there's too much a stock Duke can do. May be 5-10Kmph more at the cost of reduction in engine life.
Shreeda: I notice that you are from Bangalore. I am also from Bangalore. Please let me know which form of petrol are you using ? normal speed (BP), Super (Shell) ? or speed 97 ? If so which bunks in Bangalore are stocking them ?

I'm still running-in. My current is odo around 300 km.

My city riding speeds are typically 40/50/60kmph - 4/5/6th gear.
60 kmph- 5k rpm - 6th gear is absolute bliss
                    Yet to try on highway

                    • Duke back from vacation

It's been one long month since I had ridden my Duke. 2 small accidents in quick succession, long wait for spares, lack of free time etc. I put all these behind when I got my bike back from the SVC yesterday.

I will post details of the parts replaced and their cost soon. I rode it, checked all I could at the SVC and came back on the bike grinning. Got home, removed saree guard and rear tyre hugger.

When I was done with all the work I tried locking the bike, but, it doesn't lock. The key goes into the position marked "Push.Rel", but it doesn't go to the lock position, no matter what I do. The earliest I can take it back to SVC is the weekend, can anybody suggest anything meanwhile?

If you cant do anything else, keep your bike inside your home. In case you cant keep it inside, put a couple of disc locks. And make sure there are other bikes/ cars standing next to the bike & its difficult to take it out.
                        & Yes - Cover it!

Well, thanks for the advice. But, I meant it more on the lines of what could be wrong with the lock. There is no fear of the bike getting stolen from home or office as both parking locations are quite secure.

I don't know if anybody has replied to this (will check that later) or if anybody is experiencing this.

But I for sure have noticed this sound of late. At first I thought the rings have gone for a toss (ring sound you know) for it definitely sounds like that on mine.

Took it to the SVC and the main mechanic used a stethoscope to figure out where the sound is coming from. Ring sound was ruled out. Seems like some sound in the engine head (where the cams are located probably). He has asked me to continue riding and meanwhile he'd check with the KTM folks on this.

When you dropped your bike maybe it displaced the locking mechanism. The service guys will fix it. I will be there this Sunday for my bikes first service.

Hope it gets a solution. I think my bike has the same. I was thinking the first service will sort it out.

Can you please explain as to what kind of noise you have been hearing??
Because on mine I hear a noise during idling and I have ruled it as the noise from the valves does not sound bad though, one more noise I hear while riding is the resonating noise at certain engine speeds one is fro the tyres am sure the other resonating noise I feel is somewhere from the engine.. But none of the noises seems to be wrong, no drop in acceleration or the feel.. Can call it a humming from the engine but very feeble as the rev increases the noise disappears.
