Bought the TVS Chain Lube- Rs.333 since I Couldn't source Motul lube+clean at my place, Didn't use any cleaning agent as the chain was relatively clean, just a thorough soft wipe using a cotton cloth.
Bro tilted the bike sideways with the side stand and I sprayed the lube quite liberally(Two layers).
Did a short ride and to my surprise the chain became sparkling clean after that. Quite good alternative if you can't get Motul. Need to fabricate a cheap and simple Paddock stand.

All, in any case avoid TriboCor (officially provided by many Bajaj SVCs). It's no good I am regretting after just 2 rounds!
The manual recommends "OKS" chain spray and lubricant... anyone tried that?

        • shocked and relieved

Today in the morning removed the cover from the Duke. Was cleaning the bike and to my shock found green patches of green colour on the right side of radiator cover and on right side of radiator. Didn't know what to think-so calmed my self and tried to find the culprit for it. On looking under the panel on right side of fuel tank, i found a end pipe hanging all in green colour. Then it came to my mind that maybe this pipe is for coolant overflow. KTM recommends filling the coolant in between MAX-MIN. I had filled it more than MAX and i hope the over filled part was thrown out because after that didn't see any more green patches(coolant).
Maybe this will help some one.

OKS is another form of TriboCor. Not any better IMHO. I saw it at work. It attracts too much dirt and doesn't stick well to the chain! Motul is what should get. Period.

That's it! That's the reason why coolant spills off. If one keeps the level at half a cm above MIN, there should be no spill under normal riding conditions.

                • Chain Lube

                  Hi guys,

Have completed 480 on Odo. Thinking of getting the chain lubed at 500 kms.

                  1. Which lube is preferred ? And cost?
                  2. Can i do it by myself or do i have to go to the service center ? ( I dont have a paddock stand , would it be tough? )
                  3. If i decide to go the service center, do i have to carry the lube myself or do they sell it off the shelf?

                  Appreciate your inputs.

Wonderful it sticks to the Chain good, and that is precisely why one should be using it, it serves the purpose.
I have used OKS, and And 90Grade oil to clean and lube using what PBK gave me, it stayed there for a while then vanishes.

If you have done off-roading like I did, then I recommend you to go to the Service center and get it done, else if you have the Yamaha's Dirt Bike's Chain Cleaner, its absolutely wonderful, clean like making it new.

Yamaha Lube is aslo damm good

                      1. Motul Chain Lube (Rs.525)
                      2. Doing it First time? Yes, else without a paddock stand, ask someone to tilt the bike sidewards with the stand and spray the lube.
3.They don't sell you the can, they lube it for you. KTM service stations use Motul. They charge Rs70-80 for a lube. Buy a can for urself for intermediate lubing if you need.

PS: Use 'Search'.. DIY, Methods, Brands all are discussed already.

SO my question: Is Motul 7100 20W50 FS the best and recommended by KTM?
Did you find the oil? When I went to pick the oil from the Motul dealer in Chennai I found that he had plenty in stock.

If You go to the SVC guys they ll adjust the chain, clean it with diesel and then lube it. You can also carry the lube with You. If You have patience You can do it yourself provided if You have the padlock stand or You can just lean the bike with sidestand engaged and do the same. If the chain needs to adjusted it might be quite tricky at first but once You watch them do it, You can imitate them. The last time when I went to the service centre and did a chain service, I was billed Rs 112. I did not carry the lube with me at that time.

But I for sure have noticed this sound of late. At first I thought the rings have gone for a toss (ring sound you know) for it definitely sounds like that on mine.

Took it to the SVC and the main mechanic used a stethoscope to figure out where the sound is coming from. Ring sound was ruled out. Seems like some sound in the engine head (where the cams are located probably). He has asked me to continue riding and meanwhile he'd check with the KTM folks on this.
I am also experiencing this sound, many have already reported, seems like common problem, still would like to hear what KTM says.

Goodwill agencies, Gopalapuram? , is it available in any other places near Adyar. Any idea when they are going make Motul 7100 available at the service stations itself.

Got to adjust the chain myself, I didn't watch them adjust the chain during delivery, finding it hard to follow the steps in the DIY presentation document shared few pages back. Any detailed illustration available anywhere for that.
