Even I had thought the same, first service will fix it, so had not reported it out here.Originally posted by spiralbrain View Post
Okay let me my best to explain. Have you heard about the "ring sound"? Lets say an engine is running on worn out rings? This I have noticed only when engine on idle - particularly after a long ride - read "Hot Engine". And it is NOT a feeble humming. It is a distinct jingle.Originally posted by starscream1188 View Post

KTM duke 200 accident!
Hi guys,
I'm from hyderabad.
Purchased ktm duke last month
, did a first service at 1100km 3 days back( friday 6th april). As there was some noise while hittin the rare brakes, i had asked the servicing person to get it fixed and he did oiling for it. May be due to too much of oiling, while, i was returning home from the service center, when i tried to hit the rare brake it did not work and and i went and hit the divider. Have been very fortunate enough to escape with injuries. Now im worried about getting my bike repaired
.
The parts damaged are
1) Rear brake lever broke , I mean the small black rubber came apart.
2) Right side Leg guard bent towards the bike engine.
3) Front number plate and the one which holds the plate broke.
Guys Am new to this community.
Please help me with the spares availability in India.
How much does it cost?
Thanks guys for a community specially for bikes
and Sorry for startin my first post with a bad one(accident)
.

Vishwajeeth, welcome to xBhp! Shell pump which was convenient for me and where I visited regularly for tank ups no longer exists. Hence all tank ups for my Duke have been "normal" from BP. Absolutely no issue whatsoever.Originally posted by Vishwajeeth View PostShreeda: I notice that you are from Bangalore. I am also from Bangalore. Please let me know which form of petrol are you using ? normal speed (BP), Super (Shell) ? or speed 97 ? If so which bunks in Bangalore are stocking them ?
The manual recommends Unleaded 91 RON, hence 97 is totally an overkill! Additives might be useful in keeping the fuel injection system clean though. So if possible stick to "super" petrol of any brand of your liking.
Gosh Shubz! Some scary explanation thereOriginally posted by Shubz View PostEven I had thought the same, first service will fix it, so had not reported it out here.

I have not really noticed anything abnormal after my maniac rides though. May be I need to listen more cautiously next time.

Lol - I had no choice but to make it scary so folks know what I am talking about.Originally posted by shreeda View PostGosh Shubz! Some scary explanation there

The best way to check.
Don't wear your helmet - Start engine first thing (before riding) - listen to the engine sound - listen to every sound - preferably in a closed place or quiet place.
Wear your helmet - Ride the bike - ride enough so that engine gets pretty hot.
Come back to your original place or any other quiet place - let the engine continue to idle - take off your helmet - notice the sounds.
Are they same? Do you hear anything extra? A jingle perhaps?
(ring sound)

On a serious note, I will surely try to listen to it tomorrow. 12Km in morning's rush hour traffic should bring out the truth I hope!
PS: I also have a little appointment with a KTM personnel tomorrow regarding the false neutral thingy (It's technically called as double tapping apparently!). I will update if anything useful comes out of that appointment.

Hi Shubz, I too noticed the same on my previous bikes and current bike P220. I thought it is the characteristic of the engine. However, until then I was not using Motul, only Castrol. The moment I switched from Castrol to Motul 5100 15w50 Semi Synth, I dont hear that ringing sound any more.Originally posted by Shubz View PostLol - I had no choice but to make it scary so folks know what I am talking about.

Just to check again, during the last service I asked the SC (AutoService Guys) to use castrol as I did not have Motul then. The same noise resurfaced until I changed the oil back to Motul.
So, I guess, it is because of oil.

SHUBZ is totally right describing the sound.. It sounds little mildly during idling, but very much hearable at low RPMS esp <4k. and that raw freash roar isnt there.Originally posted by chinmayakar View PostHi Shubz, I too noticed the same on my previous bikes and current bike P220. Even I am thinking the same , may be the bike comes with the default DTSi oil when delivered and waiting if the oil change to Motul helps the issue after the first Serve....LoGun

I took the Duke for a mile crunching ride this morning and was hit by sudden heavy rain. I must say that the tires perform better than expected. Thank god Bajaj did not use a harder compound as they were going to. I am still concerned about the engine noise. I think this engine is not designed to run on normal oil and synthetic is the way forward. The way the engine begins to roar, I am now sure it requires special lubrication. Maybe Bajaj did not include it to keep the cost and maintenance low.
Anyone from New Delhi know where we can buy some genuine Motul Synthetic stuff?

Hey, how is the water spray at different areas? I mean, does the bike really throw a lot of water at the rear? how mucky does the engine get?Originally posted by spiralbrain View PostI took the Duke for a mile crunching ride this morning and was hit by sudden heavy rain. Secondly, Motul 7100 20W50 FS is the only way forward. Try it and see your Duke transform into a more free revving unit than you could imagine.Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

I did not see any watery sprat that bothered me. There was some muddy spray on the radiator. I still have the tire huger in place so the rear was clean as well just some the water escaped the tire huger and got to the underside.Originally posted by niranjanvaidya View PostHey, how is the water spray at different areas? I had removed the tyre hugger and rode it on a rainy day for like 12kms to see, it ws dirtier than a Dirt bike,
Radiator had muck mainly at the centre of it, & engine i have to say it reached areas wher even can even poke a paint brush, the bybre brakes were like some dung placed on top of the discs....
& not to include, my bagpack-my jeans, even the console had mud drops slung away by the rear tyre.....
