True. The 'where is the silencer?' questions posed will all be gone too!! The underbelly silencer is one of the USP s and look neat tooOriginally posted by The Mountain View PostJMHO, but those look terrible. Why would you want to waste money just to ruin such a clean design by hanging a big, clumsy silencer like that off the side of the bike? Not to mention ruining the bike's balance. You're not going to see any significant performance increase from it, because the stock silencer isn't that restrictive (it's one of the reasons they can pull 25hp out of that little motor). Since putting one of those on will void the warranty (not to mention the pollution control certification) anyway, why not just punch out some of the baffles in the stock silencer, and save the cash?
PS :
Took a fall today! Part my fault, part the trucker's. The trawler he was towing had a little protrusion at the back. IT stuck my arm as the truck accelerated off the signal and I lost balance. Thankfully it was a very low speed hit and I escaped with minor bruises on my arm and leg. The bike has taken a bit of beating though.
The right crashguard is bent and the screw holding it has given way. The crashguard is dangling from the frame. now. Handlebar slightly bent to the left and the right handle can now almost touch the tank. Two scratches on the tank(the sticker has given way and the orange underneath can be seen). The throttle cover is torn and scratches to the lever. Also minor scratches to the right grab rail .No visible damage to the frame though. Will know for sure later.
I guess the handlebar doesn't need replacement? Does it?
All this when I was on my way to office on a sunday for an important deployment and I was in a hurry to reach office after a good time with friends yesterday night and today morning.Bad bad day. A
No visible damage to the frame
There was a bus to the left and it left little space for me to manoeuvre out. I shouldn't have tried wriggling out through that narrow space between the bus and the truck anyway.
So guys never be in a hurry on the roads. Especially on our roads. Always be alert of whatever is unfolding around you. And yeah be absolutely sure that the narrow inviting space between those two heavy vehicles will not become narrower when you are in that space.
Bad bad day.

Dude i should say you are damn lucky.
Got a call from KTM show room, Bangalore on Friday and came to know about the 3K price hike.
The KTM guys said it " the company has increased the bike price by 3K".
.
@Guys here : any one has idea on frequent variation in KTM duke 200's price? is the price hike because of any modifications on the new bikes? OR is the price hike is only in Bangalore? . Guys from Mumbai, Chennai , Delhi and Kolkata, please confirm this.

Rear shock paint coating peeling off
Noticed today that the paint coating on the rear shock is beginning to peel off. I'm aware a few other ppl also have the same issue.
Any idea what the service center's response would be regarding this issue? will they replace the rear shock with a new one under warranty?
just adding that my bike is just 3 weeks old and I have hardly used it. Never ridden it in the rain even, so i dont think its a wear and tear issue.

On larger bikes, punching out the baffles in the muffler can remove some of the restriction from the exhaust in addition to making it sound noisier. In the US and Europe, bikes are typically sold with somewhat over-restricted exhaust and extremely lean fuel/air ratio to get the bike past emissions requirements. It is a common "trick" to hollow out the muffler to remove some of that restriction if you don't want to spend the cash on a pricey aftermarket silencer (or there are no aftermarket silencers for your bike so you have no other choice). On the Duke, especially because of the catalytic converter, the exhaust is already fairly free-flowing (the cat means they don't need the restrictive exhaust to pass emissions). So knocking out the baffles in this case will just make the bike noisier (which is the other reason people want aftermarket exhaust).Originally posted by hunkofgals View Postdoesnt this effect the performance ?

Real sad man!! fork bent too? Replacing only the handlebar won't work?Originally posted by Rohan200ns View Postsad to see this post from you .. hope your duke recovers soon .. i think the fork and handle both will be bent .. fork bend can be removed for abt 1k but handle should be replaced .. even my fz got its fork and handle bent everytime it took a fall .. i hope the spares are available at your ktm dealer ..
Spares are normally available at my SVC. Lets see what they say. btw sorry I couldn't reply to your PM. I agree with most of it if not all
You can push for a replacement and might get one too. But no use. I could see the same chipping within 2 days of getting it replaced. So I suggest wait till the vendor supplying the Shockers rectifies the issue and the new ones arrive at the SVC.Originally posted by iron_menon View PostNoticed today that the paint coating on the rear shock is beginning to peel off. @NiXTriX I m using bp's speed that too from a single station ,mine has clocked over 4k and yes I have achieved 138 few times but that was after 1st service , but the bike is behaving weird even after 2nd service I mean as the odo is running it is feeling like lack of power,,, I have also noticed the engine sound changes when I press the clutch lever maybe it could be due to excessive play in the primary driven
any other fellow dukers having same problem????

YES IM aware of the baffles thing which many SBK owners remove it for loud soundOriginally posted by The Mountain View PostOn larger bikes, punching out the baffles in the muffler can remove some of the restriction from the exhaust in addition to making it sound noisier. but they mess up the exhaust gases by making it easier to pass out
so doesnt this effect any performance ?
or effect the low end torque ?

I'm sorry bro.. I'm out of my depth with regard to that one.. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can help you out... Did you take it to the SVC and get a diagnostic check done? I'd suggest that if you haven't done that as yet..Originally posted by wrench View Post@NiXTriX I m using bp's speed that too from a single station ,mine has clocked over 4k and yes I have achieved 138 few times but that was after 1st service , but the bike is behaving weird even after 2nd service I mean as the odo is running it is feeling like lack of power,,, I have also noticed the engine sound changes when I press the clutch lever maybe it could be due to excessive play in the primary driven

That almost perfectly describes my fall a month or so ago. And I had almost the exact same problems you did.Originally posted by Doga View PostTook a fall today! Part my fault, part the trucker's. Here's how I fixed them. This may or may not work for you.
Replaced hand grip - Rs 120/-
Paint Touch up - Rs 10/-
Replaced right crash guard - Rs 110/- + screw (Approx 10/-)
Bent Handle bar- I didn't feel the bar was bent just misaligned from the center. A bit of muscle did the trick
(The mech at SVC said its slightly bent and needs replacement. I have been using it for a month faced no issues. Couple of people who have ridden the bike haven't commented on it as well, so its "fixed" as per me.)
Also I had to replace the rear brake fluid reservoir as it had broken at its mount.
Now..
Has anyone faced deterioration of the brake? My brakes have quite simply lost their bite and I'm having to use gears to slow down effectively.
What could be the issue?Live to ride.. ride to forget..

i had read in newspaper some time ago that bajaj is about to increase the prices of all the bikes due to rising input costs .. saved 2.2k ...Originally posted by kps_46 View PostDude i should say you are damn lucky.

@doga -- my fz had 3 falls and all were at extremely low speeds , but still the handle and fork used to get bent everytime .. 250 for new handle and around 1k to repair the fork bend .. bikes with long handle bars are more prone to fork bends ..

the sound change when you engage the clutch is normal in duke..so dont worry..Originally posted by wrench View Post@NiXTriX I m using bp's speed that too from a single station ,mine has clocked over 4k and yes I have achieved 138 few times but that was after 1st service , but the bike is behaving weird even after 2nd service I mean as the odo is running it is feeling like lack of power,,, I have also noticed the engine sound changes when I press the clutch lever maybe it could be due to excessive play in the primary driven

Thank God that you are safe .... If the handlebar is bent it is better to replace them, because repairing can't give you 100% satisfaction/feel. Check if the fork and disc brake is OK. Also check whether the Radiator and coolant reservoir is fine or not. One more thing; do check whether the Fan is getting ON properly.Originally posted by Doga View Post..........

Also it is very true that we should never squeeze ourselves between two big vehicles(for that matter between any two vehicles). We should all be following this rule while riding.
Take care.___________________________________________
